This is the shittiest celebrity news I've heard since Robin Williams. Sure, it pails in comparison to the terrorist attacks right down the freeway from me in San Bernardino, CA and the ones in Georgia, but this is a different kind of shitty. His first band was with me throughout my grade school years, and their music got me through high school unscathed. I understand that STP broke up before a lot of Smogon and especially PS! users were even conceived, so maybe the sadness of this news is harder to express to the newer users. The older members should understand what I'm going through as a fan even if they aren't doing so themselves, but I don't expect everyone to feel the same way since they were one of those hugely successful bands who were so polarizing. Either you loved them or hated them.

Scott Weiland also had serious drug problems throughout his career and alienated his bandmates, supposedly being impossible to work with. It's not really surprising, but I can't say I didn't hope so much that he would conquer those problems and re-unite with his band that I never got to see. But things don't always end up like a Lifetime movie.

It's always sad to see celebrities die, especially so young, but when it's someone you cherished throughout your life, it's much worse. This is much worse than Kurt Kobain (Nirvana) and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) since I didn't really care about those bands too much until after they died. I really hope Chris Cornell and Anthony Keidis aren't next. Not sure why they would be but they were contemporaries to STP and also did a lot of drugs themselves back in the day. Pretty sure they're straight-edge now, so I don't exactly see it happening.
