In the past, the bot Scrappie was capable of accepting challenges from anyone that attempted to battle it in randomized formats and even had a Gen 7 OU, rain-based team that it would use in response to that sort of challenge. Time has gone by and I've noticed that Scrappie seems to have lost the ability to accept challenges or battle.
I'm not quite aware of Scrappie's intended function, but is there a possibility for Scrappie to resume battling challengers automatically? There's multiple benefits for this sort of function.
-=- Scrappie can easily serve as a practice target for people that want to test their teams without going through the trouble of opening a whole other browser or snagging someone from, say, Lobby to battle with them.
-=- Scrappie can serve as a test for competitive players that want to know if their team can adapt to various threats, assuming that Scrappie is able to use different teams that are not randomized.
-=- Scrappie can possibly join a room tournament with the typing of a simple command, like .scrapjoin or something. That's a horrible idea for a command name but you get the idea.
And so on. The utility as an AI battler is very encompassing and an overall benefit, but off the top of my head, three problems rise up:
-=- Assuming Scrappie can play more than randomized formats (such as Gen8 NatDex, Gen7 OU, etc.), what teams would Scrappie even have?
-=- Scrappie would need to be written to be a competitively-playing AI again.
-=- Scrappie would probably be prone to crashing - recently there's been an issue repeatedly seen in Lobby wherein a metric ton of unregistered bot accounts spam challenges on a person and crash their browser.
While I can't personally offer anything about the latter two problems, I can provide some teams for Scrappie if this idea is accepted and if asked.
