A blend of a great Speed stat and solid mixed bulk combined with great utility options and an interesting defensive typing gives Scream Tail a solid niche in the tier, allowing it to check dangerous threats such as Mega Diancie, Tapu Lele, and Mega Medicham. Wish and Protect provide Scream Tail with recovery, the latter of which also scouting Choice-locked Pokemon such as Dragapult and Kartana. Dazzling Gleam is Scream Tail's attacking move of choice, punishing Great Tusk and Iron Valiant from freely exploiting Scream Tail. Encore pairs excellently with Scream Tail's high speed, allowing it to shut down setup sweepers such as Urshifu-R, Cresselia, and Garchomp for its teammates to defeat. Leftovers provides Scream Tail with recovery that makes it less susceptible to being exploited by Wish, granting Pokemon such as Gholdengo and Heatran free switches. The given EVs maximize Scream Tail's bulk while outspeeding Enamorus and shutting down Calm Mind variants with Encore. An alternative spread of 120 HP / 236 SpD / 152 Spe can be used to outspeed Hydreigon while receiving a Special Defense boost in Mega Charizard Y's Sun, further amplifying Scream Tail's bulk and allowing it to check Charizard under Sun. Tera Steel grants a resistance to Ice and Fairy-type attacks from Tapu Lele, Iron Valiant and Kyurem in a pinch, while Tera Fairy ensures Scream Tail resists Pursuit from Weavile and Mega Tyranitar while granting a power boost to Dazzling Gleam in a pinch against the likes of Garchomp and Iron Valiant, potentially 2HKOing and OHKOing them respectively. Scream Tail fits best on defensively-oriented teams that appreciate its unique defensive attributes while being able to support it sufficiently in return. Pokemon with unreliable recovery such as Great Tusk, Dondozo, and Assault Vest Toxapex appreciate Scream Tail's high HP wishes, while they in return check Pokemon Scream Tail struggles with such as Mega Scizor and Volcarona. Due to its reliance on Protect and Leftovers for passive recovery, entry hazard control such as the aforementioned Great Tusk and Tornadus-T help with removing entry hazards that mitigate its recovery. Scream Tail's passive nature means it can be exploited by Steel-types such as Gholdengo, Ferrothorn, and Heatran, so Pokemon that aid against them while providing a more dangerous presence such as Zamazenta, Mega Lopunny, and Swords Dance Gliscor pair well with it.
