[SET COMMENTS]
Mega Mawile is a threatening setup sweeper and wallbreaker due to its amazing typing, giving it setup opportunities against Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, Clefable, and Tornadus-T, and useful priority in Sucker Punch. What sets Mega Mawile apart from other wallbreakers is the immediate power it gains from Huge Power, meaning it doesn’t require setup to become threatening to defensive staples such as Ting-Lu and Zapdos and switch ins such as Landorus-T. Swords Dance boosts Mega Mawile’s attack to staggering heights, Giving it the power to OHKO Ferrothorn and Slowbro and revenge killers like Garchomp and Mega Charizard Y with Sucker Punch. Knock Off is crucial coverage against Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Gholdengo and removes crucial items such as Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers from Pokemon like Moltres, the aforementioned Toxapex, and Melmetal. Sucker Punch makes Mega Mawile a potentially dangerous late game cleaner if boosted, as frail revenge killers such as Ogerpon-W, Mega Lopunny, and Tapu Koko cannot handle boosted Sucker Punches if small chip is accrued on them earlier. Intimidate is the chosen ability before Mega Evolving to make setting up against foes like Hisuian Samurott and Mega Tyranitar an easier task. 140 Speed EVs allow Mega Mawile to outspeed uninvested Corviknight.
Bulky offense teams are where Mega Mawile is used best, as they use defensive pieces such as Heatran and Pecharunt to shore up Mega Mawile’s defensive weaknesses to foes such as Cinderace and Volcarona. Pecharunt in particular is a good teammate because it pivots in Mega Mawile on foes such as Ting-Lu and Galarian Slowking while being a stellar check to revenge killers like Ogerpon-W, Mega Lopunny, and Zamazenta for Mega Mawile. Other slow pivots like Galarian Slowking and Landorus-T do a similarly good job at pivoting in Mega Mawile on fors such as Tornadus-T and Mega Tyranitar. Offensive partners such as Serperior and Hisuian Samurott appreciate Mega Mawile taking advantage of defensive pieces such as Tornadus-T and Clefable. They, along with other Spikes setters and paralysis spreaders such as Clefable and Ferrothorn, also provide valuable utility for Mega Mawile. In particular, Clefable and Serperior provide paralysis support so Mega Mawile can outspeed foes such as Garchomp and Ogerpon-W. Hisuian Samurott and Ferrothorn also provide Spikes support so Mega Mawile overwhelms checks such as Melmetal and Heatran easier. Due to Mega Mawile being easily outrun and threatened by offensive foes such as Great Tusk, Mega Diancie, and Iron Valiant, a defensive backbone with teammates such as Toxapex, Ferrothorn, and Zapdos are appreciated. In return, Mega Mawile provides offensive pressure against Pokemon such as Tornadus-T and Galarian Slowking, who would easily take advantage of these defensive pieces. Steel-Types such as the aforementioned Heatran, Ferrothorn and Gholdengo are needed alongside Mega Mawile, as it cannot safely check foes that these teammates can cover, such as Tapu Lele, Roaring Moon, and Melmetal, with Tapu Lele’s Psychic Terrain also blocking its Sucker Punch. Mega Mawile in return takes advantage of Pokemon that can switch in on these Steel-types, such as Alomomola and Ting-Lu.
