Hello! This is my second OU team and I couldn't think a name for this team I created. I've experimented it around PSD because I'm too lazy to find an Ampharosite for my Ampharos to Mega-evolve.
I've won all my current battles with this team, only a few being close games. Let's cut the chase and go to the main content.
Team building process
Now that this little fellow's in, I have decided to put in one of the pinnacles of OU - Gliscor.
You might wonder why, but Mega Ampharos has the bulk to take hits effectively while being a monster. That is the reason why I've introduced Gliscor inside - to even more effectively take hits meant for Ampharos.
Next, we need a wall. A wall such that even hits from the most abusive OU special attackers will not faze. A wall named Florges. I'm not drunk, this guy is infact in my opinion one of the most deserving OU Pokemon.
Here is the list of typings my Pokemon is/are currently weak to.
Florges - Poison/Steel
Gliscor - Ice/Water
Ampharos - Ground
Mega Ampharos - Ground/Ice/Fairy/Dragon
That being said, we have 2 Pokemon weak to Ice. Hence, the introduction of Talonflame. The almighty pseudo Moltres.
Now we have protection for our Ice types, let's find a suitable spinner such that our lovely guardian doesn't die shall we?
This is a good question too. A rapid spinner that is viable in competitive battling and being able to deal devastating damage. I have two in mind, Starmie and Excadrill. However, which do I need more? I've decided to lean against Starmie. Why? Excellent Speed and Special Attacker. I've left Excadrill out because it mainly kills flying types which my Ampharos can easily take care of - Even the overcoat Foul Play Mandibuzz will dread my Ampharos.
Next, I need to find a suitable stealth rocker/spikes/spore/sticky web set-up. The most viable choice that comes to me is a Smeargle or a Ferrothorn. Two factors I consider. A ferrothorn is a tank, a damage dealer and a hazard set-up. A smeargle is a suicide lead that doesn't do anything after it has served it's purpose. However, I chose smeargle here. Why you may ask. Sticky Web. Sure, Mega Ampharos may have devastating Attack, Hp and Defense bulk but ultimately, it still has a fixed HP bar. Henceforth, I decided to bring out sticky web to counter against Pokemon with fast speed to allow my Ampharos to do work.
That is all I took into consideration, feel free to point out mistakes.
Pokemon Information
Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Static || Mold Breaker
Modest Nature
252Sp.A/252HP/4Sp.D
-Dragon Pulse
-Thunderbolt
-Focus Blast
-Rest
I've decided not to run Agility for the sole reason that my Sticky Webs will be up, and that my Talonflame can destroy pesky OU Pokemon that are extremely fast. Dragon Pulse is a must for me, because it has STAB and it's a special attack move. Thunderbolt is a nessecity because it doesn't miss as frequently as Thunder which may be crucial in killing Greninja/Starmie/Talonflame, as I might have only 1 CHANCE of surviving their super effective moves. Rest is there because it has synergy with Florge's Aromatherapy. Finally, Focus Blast is sort of a place-holder move but yet serves its purpose very well. It fends off
majority of the Normal types and helps Ampharos do 1x rather than using moves which aren't effective.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal || None
Impish Nature
244HP/40Def/224Spe
-Substitute
-Protect
-Earthquake
-Toxic
This is a pretty standard set for almost any Gliscor you see in OU, unless you want it to be a sweeper or so it seems. Earthquake gives STAB to deal damage while stalling Toxic damage, and substitute and protect has synergy together to stall out toxic damage to kill. Also, protect can stall out Rotom-W's hydro-pump quite effectively because without max PP UP, it's only at 5PP which renders Rotom-W useless after that 5 turns. Toxic Orb giving Gliscor Toxic damage complements it's HP Regenerating ability and prevents additional status ailments to kick in upon Gliscor.
Florges @ Leftovers
Flower Veil || None
Calm Nature
252HP/252Sp.D/4Sp.A
-Aromatherapy
-Grass knot
-Moonblast
-Toxic
I chose to run toxic for several reasons. Firstly, to aid Gligar in it's job and secondly, as a suicide move. Moonblast is there for STAB Damage ( Viable as suicide move too ). Grass knot scouts for Greninja, Rotom-W and other water types that might take a clean hit from Florges, crippling it at least a little. Finally, Aromatherapy is deemed by me a must because it helps Ampharos' rest to heal faster and it cures status ailments of my Pokemon.
Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Own Tempo || None
Jolly Nature
252HP/252Spe/4Attack
Endeavour
Spore
Extremespeed
Sticky Web
A scenario for this moveset will be created here.
Turn 1.
Pokemon X uses _____. Smeargle loses 99% of it's HP. Smeargle uses Spore.
Pokemon X falls asleep.
Turn 2.
Pokemon X is asleep. Smeargle uses Endeavour. Pokemon X loses 99% of it's HP.
Turn 3.
Pokemon X is asleep. Smeargle uses Extremespeed. In the event Pokemon X wakes up at turn 3, It'll die to a +2 priority move with STAB at 1% HP.
Also, this is only for Pokemon that do not resist Spore as a move itself. Hence, why I put Sticky Web there is a reason to that. I have many scenarios, but let me go find some PSD battles and copy paste them here.
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Gale Wings || None
Adamant Nature
252Spe/252Attack/4HP
-Brave Bird
-Steel Wing
-U turn
-Flare Blitz
In this meta, where Fairies currently show huge dominance against the dethroned Dragons, I prefer Steel Wing to rid of them. U-turn serves as a great scouting tool with Choice Band, able to at least put out some damage before returning. Brave bird, as I tested in PSD, deals a OHKO on Sweepers and a potential 2HKO on Defensive walls. With the Gale Wings ability, this allows you to move first and deal a choice banded Brave Bird with STAB damage. Flare Blitz, aided by max EVs in Speed, gives Talonflame a huge advantage over it's type advantages, which are usually slow. However, despite it's great attacking prowess, you have to remember this guy is merely a kamikaze fighter meant to destroy the opponent's few pokemon due to the recoils.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Natural Cure || None
Timid Nature
252Sp.A/252Spe/4HP
-Rapid Spin
-Psychic/Psyshock
-Hydro Pump/Surf
-Ice Beam
Rapid spin for Talonflame to rid of Pesky spikes/stealthrocks/sticky web.
Psychic and Psyshock can be used interchangeably to deter Defense and Special Defense affecting the output damage of Starmie to OHKO. Ice beam is needed because this guy outspeeds almost all of the dragon ( I daren't say all because of Choice Scarf ). Hydropump/Surf for accuracy check and STAB super effective damage. Not to forget after that, Psychic and Psyshock are both able to be replaced by Thunderbolt. However, this limits the STAB ability of Starmie to only one.
Please rate my humble team and I hope you can use this team to bring you success :)
