second RMT, advice wanted.

hello smogon community, this is my second RMT. the first one didn't have enough data and experience i think, so here is my most used team in the RU tier. RU isn't one of the most played tiers, but in my opinion one of the most fun an veried tiers in the game, and hardly any weather. only hail is used sometmes in RU and i think that's a good thing.

Kenji_the_Medicham_by_SuperNinjaWolf.jpg

Medichumbucket (Medicham) @ Choice Band
Trait: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Hi Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Psycho Cut

medicham is a very hard hitter, and i tend to use it as an explosive lead. whenever medicham is up against an enemy that it can't handle ( phisical walls that resist his STAB, like dusknoir partly, or fast other explosive leads with a flying type like archeops) use a choice banded fake out and do as much damage as possible so the pokemon switching in has an easier time taking your opponent out or causing a switch. medicham is supported by clefable for recovery, and magneton takes hits medacham can't. high jump kick takes care of everything not resisting it because of medichams 720 att after the choice band. psycho cut provides type coverage ( allmost ) and ice punch is for flying types switching in. i think sceptile is medicham's most fearsome enemy, together with sigilyph.

260px-466Electivire.png

unlimited POWER!!!!!! (Electivire) @ Choice Band
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Wild Charge
- Ice Punch

evire is my late game sweeper so i might use a choice scarf, but i don't think evire is powerfull enough without a choice band. his wide movepool helps him with type covering moves, and an expert beld might also be an option. watch out for faster enemies or powerfull grond types that evire can't OHKO, like steelix or quagsire and their rock hard defenses. getting a motor drive up really helps your sweep and nothing not scarfed will outspeed evire after the motor drive boost. ice punch may be useless because no flying type will switch in except maybe gligar, but i use it when i want to sacrifice my evire and create a free switch for magmortar, i use it to do as much damage against ground types. be carefull with nidoqueen, because electivire can't take an earth power and nidoqueen can take an ice punch. evire is supported by sandslash, but he mostly stands on his own. sandslash takes most eq's nicely and provides entry hazard support.

Clefable.gif

Clefabulous (Clefable) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Light Screen
- Knock Off
- Heal Bell

some people use clefable offensive, but i simply can't. i have 3 powerhouses on my team ( evire, medicham, mortar ) and 3 pokémon supporting them. clefable is a very good special wall and provides perfect support with light screen, heal bell, wish and knock off. try to get a screen up first and then knock off lefties or choice items or anything dangerous. if clefable lives long enough, and it will, set up a wish or heal bell if necessary. watch out for close combat or hard phisical moves from the likes of hitmonchan or medicham. not much will OHKO clefable except very hard phiscal fighting moves, so be carefull around fighting types. sandslash takes those moves a lot better, so switch him in. clefable supports medicham mostly, with wishes, but everyone else with light screen. medicham needs wishes most because he lacks recovery and needs it. medicham is slow and quiet frail, so keep him alive with wish support.

Magneton_by_KillerCubivore.png

threeway (Magneton) @ Eviolite
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 Def / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Magnet Rise

the reason i use tbolt instead of volt switch or twave is pretty simple: magneton weakens your opponent as much as possible. he isn't there to kill, all he does is rise up to avoid eq's ( magneton is faster than most ground types ), and spread poison, substall, and use tbolt on anything not being a ground type. magneton weakens your opponent so evire can clean up. watch out for unexpected eartquakes from SD sceptile or fire moves from choice item users. the eviolite provides solid defenses so magneton isn't taken down easily, but be carefull.

28.png

sandsonic (Sandslash) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 SDef / 252 HP / 252 Def
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic

a hedgehog with only one mission, set up rocks and spin the opponent's away. getting pokémon poisoned is an extra. switch sandslash in when you're expeciting phisical moves, sandslash takes those like a man. stealth rock is very usefull for my late game sweeper evire. spinning rocks away helps mortar a lot. eq doesn't do as much damage as you would wish, but it's there to do some damage to anything not resisting it. watch out for fast special grass or ice types ( like sceptile ), because they won't let sandslash set up rocks. If sandslash did his job, and i don't need my phisical wall anymore, he may rest in peace.

Magmortar1.png

the general (Magmortar) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat

my only special attacker. use overheat if you really hate your opponent, and otherwise just send them to eternal damnation with fire blast. tbolt and focus blast+choice specs isn't friendly either. magmortar is powerfull and quiet sturdy, and comes with a very nice extra: vital spirit. switch in on amoonguss or other spore or sleep powder users for a free-switch. baton pass teams ( rarely seen in RU ) can't use smeargle's spore anymore, because every move mortar has OHKO smeargle. magmortar hates rocks, so use sandslash to spin them away. magmortar isn't that fast and i don't use it as a late game sweeper. i use a free switch to get mortar on the battlefield, he is very explosive and powerfull, so don't feel sorry if he faints. magmortars job is to cause enormous amounts of damage on pokémon switching in, so prediction is not a luxury, but a need. watch out for water types when you're stuck in a fire move, or fast pokémon with acces to earthquake. clefable takes specially oriëntated moves and sandslash takes earthquakes.

conclusion:
i realize my team is weak to ground, but i really like every member of my team, so who can i replace? the biggest threats are sceptile witch acrobatics or leaf storm, and sigilyph. i also have problems with pokémon setting up. so i need some advice, thank you smogon community, i appreciate every opinion.

Hey nice team, got some interesting stuff on it. Here are some things I think will help make it better:

1. Medicham: Fake Out + Choice Band = Bad idea. If you really want to keep Fake Out, then go with a Life Orb or an Expert Belt. If you really want to keep the Choice Band then replace Fake Out with Bullet Punch or Thunder Punch. I also think the HP investment is not worth it, its more important to outspeed as many things as possible, or at least speed tie with base 80 speed pokemon.

2. Sandslash: I think your team would benefit greatly if you replaced Sandslash with Nidoqueen. Rapid Spin is not very important, especially since you only have one pokemon weak to Stealth Rock. You also really need a pokemon with bulk that resists Fighting type attacks. Here's a set I think will work well for your team:
Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SAtk / 156 Spd
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower/Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt/Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
Even with 100 HP EVs Nidoqueen can take hits very well. 156 Speed also enables it to outspeed neutral Uxie.

3. Magmortar: Giving Magmortar HP EVs is kind of a waste of time, Magmortar has pretty poor defenses and it needs to be fast to sweep. I think 24 HP / 252 SAtk / 232 Spd would be the best idea, that way you can outspeed Adamant Kabutops and all other base 80 pokemon.

4. Clefable: Firstly, running just Light Screen and not Reflect as well is kind of odd. But in the end I don't think screens are really all that necessary, you have nothing on your team that sets up to screens don't help that much. Protect instead of Light Screen would be beneficial for Clefable, as that would let it more reliably heal itself with Wish. Light Clay could then be replaced with Leftovers or even a status orb to make Clefable immune to Sleep and Paralysis.

5. Magneton: I really don't think Mag contributes a lot to your team, but it does contribute to the two big weaknesses on your team: ground and fighting. I think replacing it with a Scarf Rotom-C. This would help a lot with your ground weakness, as well as help with Sceptile.

Alright, thats all I got, hope this is helpful!

wow thank you so much, i tried the guy's you recomended and most of them really helped out, nidoqueen is indeed a good one for support, as well as special offense thank you. rotom is not really my favourite pokémon but he sure does replace magneton! i run mag with max speed now and medicham with bullet punch, however i think medicham is too frail to go out in the field with no HP investment so i gave 8 speed ev's and the rest in hp.

thank you so much man!!

and o yeah, i replaced evire with durant for more speed and power, but let me know if you think evire is a better option
jolly durant with life orb
hone claws
stone edge
x scizor
iron head
max att and speed

No Durant is great! The only reason I didn't suggest a replacement for Evire was because I couldn't think of anything at that time. I would definitely replace one of its moves with Superpower though, for general coverage purposes.

Hey man, cool looking team. Along with all the other suggestions I'd suggest Hidden Power Fire over Toxic on Magnetron. Like you said it traps steels very well with it's ability but if it catches something like Steelix, a very potent Physical wall and one of Medicham's and Durant's checks, Magneton really can't do anything to it with Steelix being immune to Toxic and Thunderbolt and in turn Steelix not being able to hit Magneton thanks to Magnet Rise. With HP Fire however it can now trap and kill Steelix and usually come out on top with a sub intact, plus it now gains the ability to trap and kill Escavalier much better.

Summary- HP Fire > Toxic

mhhh, what do you recommend for rotom-mow? his moves? i have leaf storm shadow ball discharge and vswitch

Wow man, great team. I remember in fourth gen when I played RU a lot. I am super excited that more people appreciate the teir because it totally deserves the recognition. A problem that I see with your team is that if rotom goes down you are toast to Quagsire. I mulled all other potent threats over as well for about an hour until arriving at this set. Replace whom ever you like with it, or if it is not your cup of tea then completely ignore me but it might be helpful. The Pokemon I was thinking about was Sceptile. It has an enormous speed and attack stat that can easily cleanlly 1-2hit ko lots of threats in the tier also providing as a decent wall breaker ( par Cresselia)
Sceptile:
Ability: Unburden
Item: Liechi Berry
-Substitute
-Swords Dance
-Drain Punch
-Leaf Blade
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
Ev's: 252 speed/ 252 attack/ 4 Hp

Best of luck, and please consider this set before you completely right it off.

i appreciate every advice :) so thank you very much! i tried sceptile a while, as a special sweeper and it just didn't work out for me. but you seem to recommend a SD phisical sweeper, and i will defenetly try it out!
but whom will i replace? that's the question.
i will keep durant at all time, i love him sososososo much. in my opinion the best RU phisical sweeper.
nidoqueen is used in the heat of the battle, to take hits and deal damage ( a lot with the life orb+sheer force ), but maybe sceptile is a better option.
clefable is my only support and he is also needed ( mostly by medicham ).
medicham himself is just so powerfull and amazing, if he gets a free switch, oh my, somebody is gonna bite the dust. so i'll keep him at all time as well.
magmortar is powerfull with the specs but is weak to stealth cock and is pretty fragile, but if i swap him for sceptie i might be troubled by steel types.
rotom is my lead and i can't miss him either, he provides cover against a lot of RU monsters like sigiggitylyph and others.
so let me know what you think, i might not swap nidqueenie cause she's hot and i like her, but magmortar isn't my bff so he might be pushed aside for sceptile, since i have 3 special attackers and 2 phisical ones, maybe all will be more balanced! liechi + unburden sounds epic! you came with that?
anyway ty very much for your advice. yours truly, Sybren

Ah, sorry about taking so long to reply back, but as you probably noticed yourself if you do use the Scepile set then swap it out for magmortar to balance the team a bit. Once Flash Fire Entei is released it will find a nice niche in your team providing switch in from Durant, Rotom, and Sceptile. I feel rather bad about giving you another Pokemon to cram into 6 spaces but everything seems needed so just play around until you find the most comfortable team. As to answer the question to if I came up with Unburden+Leichi, yes I did. But seeing as there are multiple thousands of Pokemon players I am probably not the first. I noticed some typo's from the first time I wrote about the Sceptile set. Firstly, don't run Seed Bomb, but I'm guessing that you figured out to run Leaf Blade. Secondly do not run the 4 Ev's in hp, put them in defense so you can take Shadow Sneaks a bit better and so you have more health when Leichi Berry activates. Another nit pick I have is of Durant. I saw the set you run has both Iron Head and X-Scizzor. This is a bit inefficient as you could run Rock Slide over X-Scizzor. Thats usually just a preference but it can allow you to hit fire, bug, and flying types hard which normally force a switch. I also agree with PTJon7 in that Fake Out must be replaced if you want to keep Choice Band. Instead try ThunderPunch to get a physical version of the BoltBeam combo. I am certainly going to Luvdisk great team.
