hello smogon community, this is my second RMT. the first one didn't have enough data and experience i think, so here is my most used team in the RU tier. RU isn't one of the most played tiers, but in my opinion one of the most fun an veried tiers in the game, and hardly any weather. only hail is used sometmes in RU and i think that's a good thing.
Medichumbucket (Medicham) @ Choice Band
Trait: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Hi Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Psycho Cut
medicham is a very hard hitter, and i tend to use it as an explosive lead. whenever medicham is up against an enemy that it can't handle ( phisical walls that resist his STAB, like dusknoir partly, or fast other explosive leads with a flying type like archeops) use a choice banded fake out and do as much damage as possible so the pokemon switching in has an easier time taking your opponent out or causing a switch. medicham is supported by clefable for recovery, and magneton takes hits medacham can't. high jump kick takes care of everything not resisting it because of medichams 720 att after the choice band. psycho cut provides type coverage ( allmost ) and ice punch is for flying types switching in. i think sceptile is medicham's most fearsome enemy, together with sigilyph.
unlimited POWER!!!!!! (Electivire) @ Choice Band
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Wild Charge
- Ice Punch
evire is my late game sweeper so i might use a choice scarf, but i don't think evire is powerfull enough without a choice band. his wide movepool helps him with type covering moves, and an expert beld might also be an option. watch out for faster enemies or powerfull grond types that evire can't OHKO, like steelix or quagsire and their rock hard defenses. getting a motor drive up really helps your sweep and nothing not scarfed will outspeed evire after the motor drive boost. ice punch may be useless because no flying type will switch in except maybe gligar, but i use it when i want to sacrifice my evire and create a free switch for magmortar, i use it to do as much damage against ground types. be carefull with nidoqueen, because electivire can't take an earth power and nidoqueen can take an ice punch. evire is supported by sandslash, but he mostly stands on his own. sandslash takes most eq's nicely and provides entry hazard support.
Clefabulous (Clefable) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Light Screen
- Knock Off
- Heal Bell
some people use clefable offensive, but i simply can't. i have 3 powerhouses on my team ( evire, medicham, mortar ) and 3 pokémon supporting them. clefable is a very good special wall and provides perfect support with light screen, heal bell, wish and knock off. try to get a screen up first and then knock off lefties or choice items or anything dangerous. if clefable lives long enough, and it will, set up a wish or heal bell if necessary. watch out for close combat or hard phisical moves from the likes of hitmonchan or medicham. not much will OHKO clefable except very hard phiscal fighting moves, so be carefull around fighting types. sandslash takes those moves a lot better, so switch him in. clefable supports medicham mostly, with wishes, but everyone else with light screen. medicham needs wishes most because he lacks recovery and needs it. medicham is slow and quiet frail, so keep him alive with wish support.
threeway (Magneton) @ Eviolite
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 Def / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Magnet Rise
the reason i use tbolt instead of volt switch or twave is pretty simple: magneton weakens your opponent as much as possible. he isn't there to kill, all he does is rise up to avoid eq's ( magneton is faster than most ground types ), and spread poison, substall, and use tbolt on anything not being a ground type. magneton weakens your opponent so evire can clean up. watch out for unexpected eartquakes from SD sceptile or fire moves from choice item users. the eviolite provides solid defenses so magneton isn't taken down easily, but be carefull.
sandsonic (Sandslash) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 SDef / 252 HP / 252 Def
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
a hedgehog with only one mission, set up rocks and spin the opponent's away. getting pokémon poisoned is an extra. switch sandslash in when you're expeciting phisical moves, sandslash takes those like a man. stealth rock is very usefull for my late game sweeper evire. spinning rocks away helps mortar a lot. eq doesn't do as much damage as you would wish, but it's there to do some damage to anything not resisting it. watch out for fast special grass or ice types ( like sceptile ), because they won't let sandslash set up rocks. If sandslash did his job, and i don't need my phisical wall anymore, he may rest in peace.
the general (Magmortar) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
my only special attacker. use overheat if you really hate your opponent, and otherwise just send them to eternal damnation with fire blast. tbolt and focus blast+choice specs isn't friendly either. magmortar is powerfull and quiet sturdy, and comes with a very nice extra: vital spirit. switch in on amoonguss or other spore or sleep powder users for a free-switch. baton pass teams ( rarely seen in RU ) can't use smeargle's spore anymore, because every move mortar has OHKO smeargle. magmortar hates rocks, so use sandslash to spin them away. magmortar isn't that fast and i don't use it as a late game sweeper. i use a free switch to get mortar on the battlefield, he is very explosive and powerfull, so don't feel sorry if he faints. magmortars job is to cause enormous amounts of damage on pokémon switching in, so prediction is not a luxury, but a need. watch out for water types when you're stuck in a fire move, or fast pokémon with acces to earthquake. clefable takes specially oriëntated moves and sandslash takes earthquakes.
conclusion:
i realize my team is weak to ground, but i really like every member of my team, so who can i replace? the biggest threats are sceptile witch acrobatics or leaf storm, and sigilyph. i also have problems with pokémon setting up. so i need some advice, thank you smogon community, i appreciate every opinion.
