[OVERVIEW]
Seismitoad is an important defensive Pokemon in RU due to its excellent typing, ability, and utility movepool. Its typing and Water Absorb allow it to deal with threats such as Raikou, Metagross, Darmanitan, and Entei. Seismitoad can also act as a Stealth Rock setter, and it has access to important utility moves in Knock Off and Toxic, allowing it to take advantage of all the free turns it gets. Seismitoad is an incredibly reliable user of Knock Off, and it is able to remove important items from checks such as Togekiss and Zarude. The latter is an important part of VoltTurn teams, allowing Seismitoad to pressure such teams by removing Heavy-Duty Boots. Seismitoad's decent offensive movepool and Swift Swim also make it a key addition to rain teams, where it provides them with an Electric immunity and Stealth Rock while being a threatening sweeper in its own right. However, Seismitoad's quadruple weakness to Grass can lead to problems for it, as the Grass-type Zarude is one of the tier's most ubiquitous Pokemon and doesn't mind most of Seismitoad's attacks, and others such as Roserade and Vileplume can also give it problems. Most viable RU teams carry Grass-types due to their defensive and offensive utility, so this is a major issue. This weakness also prevents Seismitoad from properly using its Electric-immunity in many cases, as Xurkitree carries Grass-type coverage, and another threatening Electric-type in Toxtricity doesn't care much about Seismitoad, as Boomburst does way too much damage for Seismitoad to consider switching into it directly and OHKOes it after just a bit of chip damage. Therefore, Seismitoad is not suitable as a team's only form of counterplay to the tier's Electric-types, necessitating other checks. Seismitoad also lacks reliable recovery outside of Leftovers, meaning that it can get worn down over the course of a match. This is compounded by the fact that Pokemon it otherwise checks often carry pivoting moves or Toxic, such as Darmanitan, Volcanion, and Diancie.

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Toxic / Scald
item: Leftovers
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Knock Off removes items from foes such as Galarian Slowbro, Noivern, Togekiss, Registeel, and Incineroar. Toxic allows Seismitoad to cripple threats such as Togekiss, Incineroar, and Milotic, while Scald spreads burns onto threats such as Mienshao, Cobalion, and Zarude, though many of these Scald targets dislike Knock Off and Toxic anyway. Water Absorb gives Seismitoad a good matchup against Water-types like Milotic and Volcanion as well as Scald Raikou. 56 Speed EVs allows Seismitoad to outrun Jolly Rhyperior and Adamant Alolan Marowak. 140 Attack EVs and an Adamant Nature can be considered to allow Seismitoad to 2HKO Galarian Slowbro with Earthquake after its Shuca Berry has been removed by Knock Off. Seismitoad looking to beat Galarian Slowbro can also employ Screech instead. However, the Attack EVs make Seismitoad less bulky, and Screech is a rather niche move outside of messing with Galarian Slowbro.

Seismitoad's defensive utility makes it a great fit for balance teams. Seismitoad is not an adequate check to most Electric-types on its own due to their penchant to run Grass-type coverage. Bulky Grass-types such as Zarude, Vileplume, Roserade, and Celebi can help out against Xurkitree, while bulky special walls, such as Diancie and Porygon2, can work against Toxtricity. Seismitoad also needs good Grass answers to cover its only weakness. This can take the form of options such as Togekiss, Cobalion, and Crobat. The former two in particular are solid checks to Zarude, the most common Grass-type in the tier. Seismitoad's ability to cripple and wear down the opposition is appreciated by a myriad of offensive teammates. Late-game cleaners and sweepers, in particular, appreciate Seismitoad spreading status and removing Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers. Options such as Choice Scarf Zarude and Xurkitree can work in this regard.

move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Power Whip / Stealth Rock
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Rash
evs: 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 240 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Weather Ball is the preferred STAB move under rain due to its reliability, though Hydro Pump can be used to get better damage rolls on Registeel and Porygon2. Focus Blast OHKOes Zarude after a little bit of chip damage. Power Whip, combined with 16 Attack EVs and a Rash nature, allows Seismitoad to 2HKO Suicune after Stealth Rock. Seismitoad is a decent Stealth Rock setter for rain teams, as it is one of the more viable Swift Swim users that has access to the move and is capable of threatening enormous damage onto most of the tier's Defog users. However, this should only be considered on rain teams with other Suicune countermeasures, such as Perish Song Politoed and Ludicolo. If using Stealth Rock, Seismitoad can run a Modest nature with no Attack EVs. Life Orb gives Seismitoad as much power as possible while allowing it to switch moves. A Rash nature is preferred for maximum power output, but a Naive nature is viable to outrun Choice Scarf Mienshao and Choice Scarf Zarude.

Seismitoad is an almost mandatory choice for full rain teams due to its Electric immunity and Stealth Rock. Politoed is an almost mandatory teammate. Other rain setters, such as Tornadus, can also help keep the rain up for Seismitoad to do its job, while other rain sweepers, such as Kingdra, Omastar, and Kabutops, can help break down the opposition with crushing offense. Other rain attackers, such as the aforementioned Tornadus, can also support Seismitoad in its efforts.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Protect can be used on the defensive set to scout Choice-locked Pokemon such as Toxtricity and Mienshao while also letting Seismitoad safely get more out of its Leftovers, but it is rather hard to fit onto the moveset. Sludge Wave is viable on the rain sweeper set, as it hits Celebi while still pushing damage onto Zarude, but it does significantly less damage to Zarude than Focus Blast. Choice Band variants can be used outside of rain, but such sets tend to be very prediction-reliant and do not effectively utilize Seismitoad's defensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types and Grass-type coverage**: Seismitoad is greatly threatened by the Grass-types of the tier, including Zarude, Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi. Grass-type coverage is also rather common on Pokemon that Seismitoad would otherwise check, such as Xurkitree.

**Powerful Special Attackers**: Seismitoad's tendency to invest heavily in physical bulk leaves it open to powerful special attackers such as Toxtricity, Gardevoir, Reuniclus, and Chandelure.

**Residual Damage**: Seismitoad's reliance on Leftovers for recovery leaves it open to getting chipped down over the course of a match. This is compounded should Seismitoad take Knock Off, and Pokemon that Seismitoad would otherwise be able to handle, such as Volcanion, often run Toxic, leaving Seismitoad even more vulnerable to being worn down.

  • Seismitoad's decent offensive movepool and ability in Swift Swim also make it a key addition to rain teams, where it provides them with an Electric immunity and Stealth Rock while being a threatening sweeper on its own terms.
  • However, Seismitoad's quadruple weakness to Grass can lead to problems for it, as the Grass-type Zarude is one of the tier's most ubiquitous Pokemon and can ignore anything seismitoad throws at it, and others such as Roserade and Vileplume can also give it problems. mention how most teams usually need to carry a grass type so they're rlly common

  • Water Absorb gives Seismitoad a Water-immunity and gives it a good matchup against Water-types like Milotic and Volcanion, as well as not caring about Raikou's Scalds.

If your team has another Stealth Rock setter, than Seismitoad can consider running a mixed set with Power Whip, which hits Suicune for heavy damage. Power Whip Seismitoad should consider running 16 Attack EVs and a Rash Nature to 2HKO Suicune after Stealth Rock. mention you should only consider running rocks if you have a reliable way of dealing with suicune (eg perish song politoed or ludicolo) cuz that mon is a huge threat to rain teams

  • The rain sweeper set has a few different options available to it. A fully physical set with an Adamant nature running Liquidation, Earthquake, and Power Whip is viable, but it struggles to hurt Zarude like the specially based set can. Ice Beam on the rain sweeper set hits Celebi while still pushing damage onto Zarude, but it does significantly less damage to Zarude than Focus Blast does.
  • An offensive Choice Band variants can be used outside of rain, but such variants tend to be very prediction reliant and tend to waste most of Seismitoad's defensive presense presence.

Sputnik must have caught you while you were afk, so gonna leave this here. QC would like to see the EVs on the Stealth Rock set be changed to the following: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe

This outspeeds Jolly Rhyperior, stays ahead of Adamant Alolan Marowak, and affords extra bulk for taking physical hits. Keep the 140 Adamant for Glowbro, and don't mention the 104 Spe benchmark as Golurk is not (currently) on vr and Jolly Alolan Marowak is generally not a thing. Once you've updated accordingly, just tag me here or wherever you see me, and I'll check it for you.

Seismitoad's decent offensive movepool and ability in Swift Swim also make it a key addition to rain teams, where it provides them with an Electric immunity and Stealth Rock while being a threatening sweeper in its own terms right. Knock Off removes items from opponents such as Galarian Slowbro, Noivern, Togekiss, Registeel, and Incineroar. Toxic allows Seismitoad to cripple threats such as Togekiss, Incineroar, and Milotic with debilitating status Scald allows Seismitoad to spread burns onto threats such as Mienshao, Cobalion, and Zarude, but many of these targets dislike Knock Off and Toxic anyway. Water Absorb gives Seismitoad a Water-immunity and gives it a good matchup against Water-types like Milotic and Volcanion, as well as not caring about Raikou's Scalds. However, the Attack EVs either make Seismitoad less bulky or slower depending on which EVs are taken away from, and Screech is a rather niche move outside of messing with Galarian Slowbro. Seismitoad also needs good Grass-resists to cover its only weakness. This can take the form of options such as Togekiss, Cobalion, or Crobat. The former two in particular are solid Zarude checks, which is important as Zarude is the most common Grass-type in the tier. Seismitoad's ability to cripple and wear down the opposition is appreciated by a myriad of offensive teammates. Seismitoad is a decent Stealth Rock setter for rain teams, as it is one of the more viable Swift Swim users that has access to the move and is capable of threatening enormous damage onto most of the tier's Defog users. However, this should only be considered on rain teams with other anti-Suicune measures, such as Perish Song Politoed or Ludicolo. If using Stealth Rock, Seismitoad can run a Modest Nature with no Attack EVs. A Life Orb gives Seismitoad as much power as possible while allowing it to switch moves. A Rash Nature is preferred for maximum power output, but a Naive Nature is viable to outrun Scarf Mienshao and Scarf Zarude.

Seismitoad is an almost mandatory choice for full rain teams due to its Electric-immunity and its access to Stealth Rock. Politoed is an almost mandatory teammate due to Drizzle giving it the ability to set up rain automatically. Other rain setters, such as Tornadus, can also help keep the rain up for Seismitoad to do its job, while other rain sweepers, such as Kingdra, Omastar, and Kabutops can help break down the opposition with crushing rain assisted offense. Other rain abusers, such as Tornadus, can also support Seismitoad in its efforts.

Protect can be used on the defensive set to scout Choiced Pokemon such as Toxtricity and Mienshao while also letting Seismitoad safely get more out of its Leftovers, but it is rather hard to fit onto the moveset. Ice Beam Sludge Wave is viable on the Rain Sweeper set, as it hits Celebi while still pushing damage onto Zarude, but it does significantly less damage to Zarude than Focus Blast does. (seis doesnt even learn ice beam, not sure where this came from). Choice Band variants can be used outside of rain, but such sets tend to be very prediction reliant and tend to waste most of do not effectively utilise Seismitoad's defensive presence. (waste is too harsh a word, cb seis has been considered the top option in metas prior, which means the set has its own merit)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types and Grass-type coverage**: Seismitoad is greatly threatened by the Grass-types of the tier, as Zarude, Roserade, Vileplume, and Celebi all terrify it. Grass-type coverage is also rather common on Pokemon that Seismitoad would otherwise check, such as Xurkitree and Thundurus, therefore leaving Seismitoad unable to effectively check them.

**Powerful Special Attackers**: Seismitoad's tendency to invest heavily in physical defense leaves it open to powerful Special Attackers such as Toxtricity, Gardevior, Reuniclus, and Chandelure.

**Residual Damage**: Seismitoad's reliance on Leftovers for its sole form of recovery leaves it open to getting chipped down over the course of a match. This is compounded should Seismitoad take a Knock Off, and Pokemon that Seismitoad would otherwise be able to handle, such as Volcanion, often run Toxic, leaving Seismitoad even more vulnerable to being worn down.

[OVERVIEW]

Seismitoad is an important defensive Pokemon in RU due to its excellent typing, ability, and utility movepool. Its Water/Ground typing gives it only one weakness in Grass which, in conjunction with its good bulk and Water Absorb, (comma) allow it to deal with threats such as Raikou, Metagross, Darmanitan, and Entei. Seismitoad can also act as a team's Stealth Rock setter, and it has access to important utility moves in Knock Off and Toxic, allowing it to take advantage of all the free turns it gets. In addition, Seismitoad is an incredibly reliable user of Knock Off, and it is able to remove important items from Pokemon checks such as Togekiss, Zarude, and Thundurus. The last two also allow Seismitoad to put pressure on VoltTurn teams, as one member of the chain will be eating a Knock Off should Seismitoad hit the field latter two are important parts of VoltTurn teams, allowing Seismitoad to pressure such teams by removing Heavy-Duty Boots. Seismitoad's decent offensive movepool and ability in Swift Swim also make it a key addition to rain teams, where it provides them with an Electric immunity and Stealth Rock while being a threatening sweeper in its own right. However, Seismitoad's quadruple weakness to Grass can lead to problems for it, as the Grass-type Zarude is one of the tier's most ubiquitous Pokemon and doesn't mind most of Seismitoad's toolkit attacks, and others such as Roserade and Vileplume can also give it problems. Most viable RU teams need to carry Grass-types due to their defensive and offensive utility, so this is a major issue. This weakness also prevents it Seismitoad from properly using its Electric-immunity in many cases, as Thundurus and Xurkitree both carry Grass-type coverage that threatens Seismitoad. In addition, another threatening Electric-type in Toxtricity doesn't care much about Seismitoad, as Boomburst does way too much damage for Seismitoad to consider switching into it directly and OHKOes it after just a bit of chip damage. Therefore, Seismitoad is not suitable as an a team's only form of counterplay to the tier's Electric-types, necessitating other soft checks.

Knock Off removes items from opponents foes (opponent is the other player, not their mons) such as Galarian Slowbro, Noivern, Togekiss, Registeel, and Incineroar. Toxic allows Seismitoad to cripple threats such as Togekiss, Incineroar, and Milotic, (comma) while Scald with debilitating status Scald allows Seismitoad to spreads burns onto threats such as Mienshao, Cobalion, and Zarude, but though many of these Scald targets dislike Knock Off and Toxic anyway. Water Absorb gives Seismitoad a Water-immunity and gives it a good matchup against Water-types like Milotic and Volcanion, (comma) as well as not caring about Raikou's Scalds Scald Raikou. Seismitoad looking to beat Galarian Slowbro can also employ Screech instead, which makes Galarian Slowbro much easier for Seismitoad to KO. However, the Attack EVs make Seismitoad less bulky, and Screech is a rather niche move outside of messing with Galarian Slowbro.

Seismitoad's defensive utility makes it is a great fit for balance teams due to the defensive utility it provides them. Seismitoad is not an adequate check to most Electric-types in the tier on its own due to their penchant to run Grass-type coverage. Therefore, alternate forms of counterplay is recommended. Bulky Grass-types such as Zarude, Vileplume, Roserade, and Celebi can help out against Thundurus and Xurkitree, while bulky Normal-resists and generally bulky special walls, such as Diancie and Porygon2, can work against Toxtricity. Seismitoad also needs good Grass-resists answers to cover its only weakness. This can take the form of options such as Togekiss, Cobalion, or and Crobat. The former two in particular are solid Zarude checks to Zarude, which is important as Zarude is the most common Grass-type in the tier. Seismitoad's ability to cripple and wear down the opposition is appreciated by a myriad of offensive teammates. Late-game cleaners and sweepers, in particular, appreciate Seismitoad knocking off spreading status and removing Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers in the early game and spreading status in order to wear things down into range. Options such as Choice Scarf Zarude and Xurkitree can work in this regard.
