Semi-Stall, mhmm mhmm [OU RMT]

Introduction
Okay, so I wanted to make a stall/semistall team, to try it out, because frankly, ive never tried it. I'm a noob when it comes to stalling, most of my teams are offensive, so I just took what i knew and based a team off on that.

Edits are in Bold.

Teambuilding Process

The first thing i knew would be on the team, was Zapdos. I had been talking to some friends and I had realised that Zapdos is a beast when it comes to walling. Its great typing and decent stats can make it either a physical or special tank. I decided that, because there are a lot more pokes with physical bulk than special, I'd make a specially defensive Zapdos.

So next, I needed something to resist Ice and Rock moves thrown Zapdos' way. Steel was the obvious choice. I really like Jirachi, and because my team would be semi-stall, I figured I'd give Jirachi Wish, so it could also support my other team members. I decided to use a Calm Mind Wish Jirachi, who is basically unstoppable after +2 or +3 Calm Minds.

Now, the core of my team was ready. However, i needed something to take (or absorb) Fire moves thrown at Jirachi. Ground-type attacks are not as big a problem, as you will see later. I chose to use Heatran. Its good stats and excellent typing make it perfect for my team.

Looking at my team, I saw a big Ground weakness. I also couldn't take Fighting-type moves very well, as Zapdos was specially bulky. Stealth Rock is a necessity to any team, and what poke can do all of that? Gliscor. Gliscor is another good Pokémon for my team. The Ice-weakness is dealt with through Heatran and Jirachi. Only the Water-weakness seemed to be a problem.

Now, I had a problem. I had a huge Water-weakness, with Gliscor and Heatran being weak to it. I needed something to take Water moves, as well as Ice, since it still seemed like a problem to me. Out of all the bulky Waters i could choose, I picked Suicune for its amazing stats. Suicune was also my way of dealing with status.

All I needed now was a good lead. Roserade has always been one of my favorites, So I decided to go with that. Roserade can set up Toxic Spikes, as well as put a slower lead to sleep. It's typing fit perfectly into my team.

The Team In-Depth

410.png

Roserade (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Toxic Spikes

Like I said, Roserade is a good lead, with the ability to set up Toxic Spikes as well as put an opposing Pokémon to sleep. The moveset is pretty straightforward, Sleep Powder to put things to sleep, Leaf Storm as a powerful attacking move, Hidden Power [Fire] for coverage, and Toxic Spikes because they're Toxic Spikes. Im debating on having Grass Knot over Leaf Storm, but I'm not sure yet.

477.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Taunt
- Roost
- U-turn

Gliscor. My source of Stealth Rock. My Lucario counter. Gliscor is in my opinion one of the best Flying-types in the game, with a good defence and HP stat. Its speed isnt half bad either. The given EV's make it so that it can outspeed Jolly Lucario, so I dont get swept by it. Currently, I have U-turn > Taunt because it lets me get switch advantage, although I might switch it around later. EQ for damage, SR because it's SR, and Roost to stall.

490.png

Heatran (M) @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naïve nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power

Ah, Heatran. I love switching it in, faking a scarf, then setting up a substitute and burning for example a Gyarados, a common Heatran switch-in. The EV's on this set are kind of gimmicky, and I often notice that Heatran just isn't strong enough to kill sometimes. I have Dragon Pulse at the moment, for Latias. When it becomes Uber, I'll probably change it to Earth Power, for Tyranitar, and other Rock-types. Substitute is a good move to hide behind, as most Heatran switch-ins have Earthquake, and Substitute lets me get a free WoW on anything that doesnt get toxic'd by Toxic Spikes. Gyarados, Salamence and Flygon are a few examples.

145.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP/36 Spd/224 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Toxic

Zapdos is a great special wall, because of its excellent typing. It also has an instant-recovery move, Roost, which is very useful to a wall. I have Toxic for other Zapdos, or other Pokémon that are flying and can be stalled out with either Zapdos or Gliscor. Or suicune, for that matter. Thunderbolt + Heat Wave provides nice coverage.
385.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

The reason this team is Semi-Stall and just full stall. Jirachi. Calm Mind Jirachi has sweeped many teams for me. Wish is there to heal up Heatran or Roserade, who don't have recovery of their own. The EV's are max HP and max Defence, to make it a defencive beast after two or three Calm Minds. Thunderbolt is a solid attacking move, and paired with Rachi's ability, Serene Grace, it sometimes pulls off a parahax on the opponent, which is useful. I have Psychic > Flash cannon because I don't want Swampert to stop my sweep. Tyranitar is dealth with by Heatran (partially) and Latias is going Uber soon. Psychic is another way (besides Toxic Spikes) to deal with Blissey, because of the Sp. Def. drops.

245.png

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
- Calm Mind

And least but not least, Suicune. Another Calm Minder. It also functions as my status absorber, which would otherwise be trouble for my team. Crocune has always been my favorite set, so why not put it in there?
It's pretty straightforward, Calm Mind till my HP is low, then Rest up and start Sleep Talking. After a few Calm Minds, Suicune becomes untouchable and is very hard to beat. I might try a different set, but leave some feedback on that.

The End
This has been my Semi-Stall RMT, please leave some feedback on what you think and how it can be improved. Thanks ^_^

hey. cool tam but i have some suggestions. first thing i notice is that you lack a spin-blocker. this can be a bite in the ass for you against opposing stall teams, because you wont be able to keep up pressure with toxic spikes. i think a rotom form could work well over zapdos since they have similar typing while threatening and countering the same things. rotom also provides the much needed spin-blocking for your team. probably try out the restalk set for added longevity, or run scarf to revenge kill things like gyarados that can be troubling.

next up i believe hp ice is a better option on roserade. you don't lose speed, and gliscor looks to be a bitch for this team, as well as sala that can just set up on you.

definitely go taunt with gliscor, to break down stall more efficiently as well.

hope i helped gl

Hello, pretty good team you have here.

First change I would do, is removing HP Fire from Roserade and adding HP Ice. Not only you keep your Speed IV intact to race with other Roserades for the Sleep Powder, but you also hit one of the most common things to switch in on Roserade to try and setup, Salamence. And thats not even counting the possibility of Gliscor, Flygon, Dragonite and even things like Zapdos. Everything else looks perfect on Roserade, although since you have no spin blocker you will have to be very careful when playing against spinners, aka playing at the defense with Roserade, trying to keep her alive in case you need to set up the Toxic Spikes later on.

Now onto Gliscor. If theres something Gliscor can do excellently, is destroy Stall teams, because the combination of Taunt + Earthquake + Roost makes it insanely hard to beat with only defensive pokes, not even counting its immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes. Your team seems to fare very well against offensive teams, but I think it has very hard times with Stall teams that not only can spin your rocks, but also have stuff like Scarftran to beat your Jirachi, Blissey to beat your Heatran, Zapdos and Roserade (and even Jirachi sometimes if it has Twave). For that reason, I think you would benefit more of the Stall Breaker Gliscor set.

Gliscor @ Leftovers | Jolly | Sand Veil
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Earthquake | Taunt | Roost | U-Turn / Toxic

This thing is capable of annoying the hell out of any Stall team when used correctly. Earthquake is your main STAB, and it hurts stuff like Blissey, Ttar, and the other things you should know by now. Taunt works as a cold stop not only for set uppers, but for things that rely a lot on recovery, such as Blissey, Celebi and Rotom. It also keeps you not worried of Toxic and Burn status, which makes the wall breaking job much much easier. Roost is to restore your health after taking Seismic Tosses, Brave Birds and the likes, since Taunt makes the users of those moves practically unusable. Last spot is a bit hard. U-Turn will aid you against offense teams a bit more, by keeping momentum on your side of the field, while hitting stuff like Latias hard, one that loves switching in on Gliscor. Toxic, on the other hand, will complement your toxic spikes in hitting things it misses, like fliers, which makes the job of your team easier. As I said its personal preference, be sure to test them both and use whichever you want.

Now that you have removed SR from your set, its a necessity to add it back. You could fit it in on Jirachi, but thats not really a good idea, and although your idea of burning common switch ins to Heatran like Gyarados is very clever, I think your team will be more benefited from using a Support Heatran, which is basically the same as the lead one, but in a different spot to play in the midgame in contrast to the early game the lead one plays.

Heatran @ Shuca Berry | Naive | Flash Fire
4 Atk | 252 SpA | 252 Spe
Fire Blast / Flamethrower | Stealth Rock | Earth Power | Explosion

This Heatran acts different as your other one, since while your last one was used to hit stuff that usually switches in on it, this one assumes a complete role support by getting SR up for you, and not only that, but this one fakes scarf better due to your opponent not seeing the Leftovers Recovery thanks to Shuca Berry. Explosion is to go bam on Latias and lets say, Gyarados, after you get SR up. Fire Blast and Earth Power is good coverage that lets you hit Tyranitar (bitch to your team btw). You can opt for Flamethrower over Fire Blast if missing is a concern to you, although the power of Fire Blast is usually prefered due to not having anything to boost the power of your moves. Explosion can be removed to use HP Grass, which lets you 2HKO Swampert, and also hits other Waters decently hard, although I certainly would go with Explosion. OR you know, you could use Will O Wisp there as well, if you really want to keep your maximum support role, this will let you, since you now still burn those things you like to burn, and also get SR up for your team. Losing Sub isnt a really big concern since you have Shuca to save you from any risky situation.

Your Zapdos set is fine really, although it doesnt need THAT much bulk to function almost perfectly. A set I used a lot and found extremely rewarding versus not only offensive teams but stall teams, which also functions better with Toxic Spikes, is a Sub Roost set. Its basically the same you have, but with Substitute over Heat Wave. Heat Wave isnt that much of a necessity, since Toxic hurts grasses badly already, while Thunderbolt puts quite the pain on steels anyways. If you decide to do the change after testing and if you like it, the EV spread will need a new touch. 248 HP / 76 Speed / 96 Def / 88 SpDef with a Timid nature works wonders, mainly because you retain bulk, you win a lot of speed to beat stuff like Heatran (who now you beat completely easily due to stalling his Fire Blast PP with Sub + Roost thanks to Pressure) and more, like Lucario, most Celebis, etc. Sub Roost is a hard set to use, and it will usually save your ass in some ocassions, while not helping you a whole lot in others, so if you want to keep your spdef Zapdos instead of this one, its completely fine, since this isnt really a needed change at all, its just for preference.

Lastly, another suggestion that isnt "use it or your team wont work!" kind of deal. I love the Jirachi set youre using, it seriously destroys a lot of things with the boosts and can keep himself healthy with Wish, and also help the teammates. Its a great set on your team, so I would totally plan on keeping it, but if you are having troubles with things like DD Gyara, DD Mence, DD Tyranitar and company, (which you seem to have a bit og trouble with after they get a +1) you can always change the set of your Jirachi to a Scarf set. Its pretty easy to use, and can act as your revenge killer, since you dont really need more stall breakers anymore, Gliscor, Sub Roost Zapdos and Crocune combined with Toxic Spikes really rape stall and badly. Scarf Rachi on the other hand will give you a big aid vs Offensive teams, since you can switch in and instantly threaten their stuff and badly. Max Attack and Max Speed with Jolly are a must, to outspeed and hit hard as much as possible. The moveset is tricky, though. Iron Head is a must since its your main stab and the flinch chance is very appealing. Thunderpunch helps you vs DD Gyarados, specially LO versions, which can OHKO Zapdos after SR. Fire Punch is for the steels, but since you have Gliscor and Zapdos Fire Punch isnt really needed. Ice Punch is a must un my opinion, lets you hit Latias, Mence, Flygon and company, while still hitting Grasses. Theres 2 more options: U-Turn, to scout and get momentum, while still hitting Latias and Starmie hard, and being able to bring in a Counter to whatever they plan on using to beat Jirachi, or Trick, which is more help vs Stall teams and set uppers like CM Suicune. Again this is pick whichever you feel more comfortable with.

I put emphasis on that this change isnt incredibly needed, because while it helps your team a lot vs offensive teams, your other Jirachi works nicely already due to having a lot of bulk to take +1 EQs from the mentioned things (although tyranitar will still piss you off and badly).

Suicune is perfect, no need to change anything on that one.

Thats really all I can think of, so good luck with your team man, and hope I helped.

hey maxi, theres not much to add after reys rate but ill see if theres anything i can do.

while you should switch to the gliscor rey said, change the speed evs to 252 and defense to 4. taunt vs taunt gliscors can be game deciding and worst case scenario your going to speed tie with other gliscor from here on out.

for jirachi, i would take 40 evs out of defense and add them to speed. this allows you to outspeed stuff like breloom, ttar and stuff around the speed.

Hello.Just a few nit picks. I really wouldn't classify this as semi stall because you lack things that are needed such as spikes,a spin blocker,etc..... If i could make any changes i would change heat wave to substitute. This allows you to block status which is important for stalling with zapdos. I think dragon pulse is really ineffective on heatran on this team.I would simply replace heatran altogether with some sort of Mix mence, or a rotom. Just because i feel your team doesn't have all the fire power to knock down a true stall team. Breloom is another option for heatrans spot. But if electivire gets a boost its a wrap for this team . Mix ape is a problem is suicune is gone.

First off, I'd like to thank you (mostly Rey, lol) for your suggestions.
I am currently trying out the Heatran set he proposed. Also I am now running Taunt on Gliscor over Stealth Rock and it is working out perfectly. I have exchanged Heat Wave on Zapdos for Substitute, which is what Curtains proposed. I am currently laddering and I will post any changes or updates in the main post. Again thanks ^_^
