Hey guys, so I felt like building a team for when pokebank comes out, and I wanted it to be based around the new mega lucario, a pokemon I was really hyped about since I loved terrakion in gen 5 and feel like this is an even better version of it. Without further adieu, here is what I have planned out so far:
Lucario @ Lucarionite
Adaptability
Jolly
252 att/252 spe/4 hp
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Bullet Punch
My main setup sweeper. I wanted to start out with him because he was one of the more interesting mega released with the new gen, and I find him very effective in sweeping clean through teams with +2 240 BP Close Combats. He is unparalleled in his offensive capabilities this gen, and I am very happy with how he has been faring so far. Crunch helps me hit ghost and psychics for super effective damage, mainly gengar and alakazam. Bullet punch is for coverage against fairies now that it does the same damage as extremespeed. Close Combat is for anything else really, and with Lucario's amazing base stats, I can almost always outspeed and OHKO with a neutral Close Combat if I have a swords dance under my belt. However, it is hard to find opportunities to switch this guy in, since he is very frail and takes a lot of damage switching in even on a neutral attack.
Rotom-w @ chesto berry
Levitate
Bold
252 hp/228 def/28 spa
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Rest
- Will o Wisp
This guy is definitely a core on this team, as he takes care of alot of checks and counters my other pokes had, such as talonflame, gliscor, and other bulky ground types who destroy my team with earthquakes. I ran a defensive spread to stop physical sweepers with will o wisp while having sufficient bulk, especially with rest to increase my longevity throughout the fight. I like to use his will o wisp, then volt switch out to set up SDs on my Lucario, since opponents will usually be reluctant to throw a ground or fire move against this guy.
Garchomp @ yache berry
Rough Skin
Jolly
252 att/252 spe/4 def
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance
Garchomp is my second boosted sweeper, who I desperately needed since I was lacking in ground type moves. His STAB earthquakes hit for very strong damage, and coupled with his bulk, it is not hard to switch in and set up +2 and attempt to sweep late game with outrages. Yache berry is to be able to resist most ice shards/punches and fire fang is for skarmory, scizor and such. The main purpose of this poke is to take care of aegislash, since it's a 50/50 game with my lucario, and to function as a secondary boosted sweeper. I run a pretty standard moveset and ev spread.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Protean
Timid
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 def
- Surf
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Spikes
I usually lead off with this guy by setting up spikes which are key to opening sweeping opportunities for lucario. He also wrecks dragonite with his STAB Ice Beam thanks to protean and high speed which allows him to easily kill slower dragons. Dark Pulse is for added coverage, but i'm not sure if I should replace it with something else. This greninja is a more offensive variant but has supporting capabilities through setting up entry hazards.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Technician
Adamant
252 att/252 hp/4 SpD
- Bullet Punch
- U-Turn
- Pursuit
- Brick Break
Classic revenge killer. Scizor synergizes very well with Rotom-W since they can form a voltturn core, in which rotom can volt switch out from a specially defensive wall into a scizor who demolishes most of rotom's counters. He has very good defensive stats and choice band boosts his already high attack levels through the roof. He has one of the best priority in the OU metagame with technician bullet punch, and has good coverage to boot. He fulfills many roles in my team, including scout, and revenge killer. Though steel was nerfed this generation, Scizor is still very effective at trapping ghost and psychic types with pursuit.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Stance Change
Brave
IV: 0 Spe
252 att/252 hp/4 def
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Iron Head
- King's Shield
Classic defensive pivot Aegislash set. Aegislash is very good for his ease in setting up then doing great damage with Iron Head and priority STAB Shadow Sneaks. He is very good at all stages of the game for his ability to wall, sweep, and block spins, which is crucial in a team so reliant on entry hazards like mine. He is countered by earthquake spammers, so synergizes well with Rotom, who can switch in on an earthquake and 2hko most things with his hydro pump.
There you have it. I know there are problems with this team especially with the abundance of steel and water types and lack of a rapid spinner but this is still a first draft. So far, this team is working pretty well, but as always, I'm looking for ways to improve and would appreciate it if you guys could give me some feedback!
