Intro: I use Google a lot, maybe a little too much. Today I click on Google and I see Bert and Ernie as the "O's" in Google. Yesterday I clicked on it and Cookie Monster, you know, the blue, furry monster thing that eats cookies, shows up. I was thinking, "hmm, this is strange... Why is Cookie Monster on Google?" Then I remembered the day before that Big Bird's legs were the "L" in Google. I clicked on the link and it said that today was the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. So, to honor that I decided that Sesame Street should be the name of my RMT.
Dragonite: Dragonite is one of the best Anti-Leads that I've ever played with. Her ability is very useful when it comes to leading due to there being many other leads who rely on flinching moves to start off. Inner Focus absolutely shuts them down. Her mixed move set lets me hit from both sides of the attacking spectrum to really put a beating on opposing leads.
Why not another Anti-Lead? Dragonite is one of the only two Anti-Leads to have Inner Focus, that prevents my opponent from flinch hacking me to death, and Extremespeed, a very strong priority. Dragonite was the only Anti-Lead to be able to destroy all other leads, barring three, Hippowdon, Swampert and Gliscor. Lucario was the only other Pokemon to fit as the bill of having Inner Focus + Priority, but his typing did not prove to be very useful at the start of a battle as he would be KOed by Earthquake, Earth Power, Fire Blast and Close Combat from the likes of Swampert, Bronzong, Metagross, Hippowdon, Heatran and Infernape, respectively.
Item:
- Lum Berry stops Roserade and Crobat from sleeping me, while I can get the 2HKO on both of them.
Ability:
- Inner Focus is a great ability as it prevents Jirachi from flinch hacking me to death and for me to be able to 2HKO Infernape who think they can flinch me with Fake Out.
Moves:
- Dragon Claw is a very powerful STAB when coming off of a 134 Base Attack. - Extremespeed is the niche move the makes Dragonite more useful than Salamence as a lead. When combined with Inner Focus, Dragonite can attack with Dragon Claw/Earthquake/Fire Blast on all the leads without being flinched. Then, Extremespeed will finish off the weakened Pokemon.
- Earthquake allows me to deal damage to Metagross, Heatran and Roserade and be able to 2HKO all of them.
- Fire Blast on the other hand allows me to deal with Levitating Bronzong who would otherwise wall this set.
Dragonite vs. Top 15 Leads:
- 2HKO - Dragon Claw + Extremespeed
- 2HKO - Earthquake x2
- 2HKO - Fire Blast/Earthquake x2
- 2HKO - Dragon Claw + Extremespeed
- No Kill - Dragon Claw + Switch to Metagross
- 2HKO - Earthquake + Extremespeed
- 2HKO - (Absorb Sleep Powder with Lum Berry) Earthquake/Fire Blast + Extremespeed
- No Kill - Fire Blast + Switch to Metagross
- 4-5HKO - Dragon Claw x3-4 + Extremespeed @ 25% HP
- 2HKO - Dragon Claw + Extremespeed
- 2HKO or No Kill (Has to hit Hypnosis twice in a row, 36% chance of doing that) - Dragon Claw x2
- 2HKO - Earthquake x2
- No Kill - Fire Blast + Switch to Metagross
- 2HKO - Earthquake x2
- 3HKO (77% are Levitate, 22% are Heatproof) - Fire Blast to see damage (Should be 45/46% - 53%) Anything less and I use Earthquake
Metagross: On of the best, if not the best, Stealth Rocker in the game. With an attack power matching that of Salamence and the defensive capabilities of Uxie, it's no wonder Metagross is used so much. Combined with a 150 Base Power STAB attack, Metagross will surprising do a lot of neutral damage to many Pokemon. Along with over powered attacks and 135 base attack, Metagross' typing allows it to be weak to only two types and resistance to eight types as well as immunity to one, which is great in a Metagame where a multitude of attacks are flying around.
Why not another Stealth Rocker? Most of the other Stealth Rockers had average defense, average (special)attack and/or weakness to fighting. The only other Pokemon who could've taken Metagross' spot was Jirachi. The only problem with this was that I didn't need a Wish Passer due to my Pokemon carrying Leftovers or Recover. Jirachi is also slightly weaker than Metagross in taking Physical hits and hitting back hard with Physical hits.
Purpose: Metagross is the one who sets up Stealth Rock. But, besides that, he's the one that switches into Salamence's Outrage and KOs with Meteor Mash. The high damage output of Meteor Mash when combined with STAB proves to be an excellent move to throw around early game where you try to scout your opponent's counters. He's also the one that cripples Pokemon that could potentially be a hazard to my team, such as Latias.
Item:
- Leftovers is essential for Metagross to survive. When facing against teams that carry Rapid Spin, it is essential for Metagross to survive late in the game, so that he may be able to set up Stealth Rock again. Not only that, but Leftovers helps to ease the damage from Outrages and various other strong, but resisted, attacks.
Ability:
- Clear Body is the saving grace for Metagross. Not being Intimidated by Salamence allows Metagross to revenge kill them when they are at low health. Clear Body also allows Metagross to throw Meteor Mashes around, hoping for a +1 attack boost, and deal damage to Gyarados with impunity.
Moves:
- Stealth Rock is the one move that every single team should have. It allows your team to hurt Gyarados and Salamence on the switch and when paired with other entry hazards, sandstorm, hail, etc. it takes a huge toll off of all flyers.
- Meteor Mash is obviously an overpowered STAB that also allows you to raise your attack.
- Explosion is another overpowered attack. With this move, I can destroy Latias, Porygon2, Vaporeon and Suicune. Basically it's a last resort move that allows me to deal with Pokemon that are too bulky for my team or with Pokemon that can really damage my team.
- Earthquake allows me to hit Heatran and opposing Steels for hard damage.
- Bullet Punch allows me to Revenge kill Salamence.
Which should I pick?
Latias: She is an Animal, no pun intended. Her beastly 110 Base Special Attack paired with an overpowered STAB, Draco Meteor, similar to Metagross, gets her a spot on this team. With 110 Base Speed and 130 Base Special Defense, Metagross and her go together like two peas in a pod. Metagross takes the Physical hits and hits hard Physically while Latias takes the Special hits and hits hard from the Special side of the spectrum. The neutrality coverage she gets with only three moves is absolutely astonishing. Then a way to heal off damage and start over? Mind blowing!
Why Not Other Life Orb Special Sweepers? Many of the other Special Sweepers that can carry Life Orb are either slow, weak or are destroyed by Scizor. However, only two other Pokemon would fit as Life Orb Special Sweepers, Jolteon and Raikou. I already have a Jolteon on my team and I feel that with Raikou being Electric, three weaks to Ground with only two immunities, Dragonite dies to Ice Shard/Ice Fang and Gyarados dies to Stone Edge from Mamoswine, it would hurt my team more than it would help. Besides this, Gengar and Starmie could both be here. However, Gengar easily gets KO'd by Bullet Punch and Starmie's sub par defenses just don't cut it as well as being weaker than Gengar and Latias. I'm not saying, however, that Latias doesn't die to Bullet Punch, but Latias does have higher Special Defense than Gengar, Starmie and Raikou as well as having amazing synergy with Metagross.
Purpose: Latias is my Life Orb Special Sweeper. With her above average speed and special attack as well as her extraordinary special defense, she takes the cake when it comes to pairing with Metagross. She can jump in and take all the Fire Blasts, Earthquakes, Shadow Balls and the like and fire back with strong attacks.
Item:
- Life Orb does a phenomanial job when combined with the fact that Draco Meteor has 140 Base Power as well as STAB. Dealing superfluous damage to the likes of Gyarados, Salamence, Gengar, Jolteon, Life Orb has proven to be a game saver as well as providing quick KOs.
Ability:
- Levitate is an excellent ability to have on this team because both Metagross and Jolteon are weak to it. This gives me three immunities to ground.
Moves:
- Draco Meteor is for obvious STAB. It's a 273 Base Power move, Life Orb + STAB included, coming off a base 110 Special Attack.
- Surf gives great coverage alongside Draco Meteor by hitting Steels, not named Empoleon, for hard damage. Some of these Steels include, but are not limited to, Metagross, Heatran, Scizor and Bronzong.
- Thunderbolt rounds off this set by proving SE damage to Skarmory, Gyarados and various other flyers.
- Recover is a great move on Latias because with the extremely high Special Defense and Life Orb taking off 10% HP on each hit, it gives Latias an easy way to start over. If something went horribly wrong, Latias can come back in later, heal off the damage and start the rampage all over again.
Porygon2: Talk about a PC, Mac's are awesome. People seem to be using Porygon-Z way too much, they have to use Porygon2. So much fun. The bulk in this little rubber ducky is amazing. Taking so many hits and then firing back with some powerful Electric and Ice attacks, it does it's job well. To heal itself means that my opponent would have to go through this wall yet again.
Why not another Physical Wall? How many other Physical Walls out there can take hits from both Salamence and Gyarados and KO back with 4x attacks? None. There's only one Pokemon out there that can even match Porygon2's awesomeness. Vaporeon. Vaporeon has access to Wish + Protect as well as Ice Beam and HP Electric, but it takes a hell load of damage from +1 Outrage and +1 Earthquake from Salamence and Gyarados respectively. Porygon on the other hand changes +1 Outrage to just a normal Outrage and +1 Waterfall to normal Waterfall. Vaporeon just can't do that.
Purpose: Destroy Salamence and Gyarados. That's all it needs to do. Once both of them are out of the picture, the rest of my team has an easier time sweeping. Besides this, he can come in on various immunity attacks such as Fire Blast from Heatran, Surf from Vaporeon, Thunderbolt/Thunder Punch from Jolteon and Electivire respectively. His physical walling ability is so great in fact, that he can come in on virtually all non-SE Physical attacks and defeat the Pokemon.
Item:
- In order to be an effective wall, Leftovers is a must. It allows me to repeatidly take hits from Salamence and Gyarados. OHKOs and 2HKOs turn into 2HKOs and 3HKOs, respectively, with Leftovers
Ability:
- Trace is an amazing ability when used properly. Not only does it steals your opponent's ability, but you get to keep it until you switch out, and at that point, you can steal another ability. Salamence and Gyarados' Intimidate are reflected back at them.
Moves:
- Thunder Wave helps me to neuter Salamence and Gyarados. They think they can get up a free Dragon Dance, not with Thunder Wave around.
- Thunderbolt deals the KO to Gyarados.
- Ice Beam deals the KO to Salamence.
- Recover is an awesome move, as it allows Porygon2 to continue walling later on in the game.
Gyarados: This is the Cookie Monster, pun intended. He will basically devour anything. Usually Gyarados comes in mid game and goes for a sweep. His Dual STABs will tear it's opponent's into pieces. Now add to that a move that boosts the power and speed of Gyarados. These nothing else to say about how beastly this guy is.
Why not another Physical Sweeper? Gyarados has the best synergy with Jolteon. There's nothing else to say... Gyarados' 4x weakness to Electric bring in Starmie who dares to use Thunderbolt. I bring out Jolteon and Jolteon gets healed for a whopping 25% of it's health. That's a lot when you combine it with the fact that once Jolteon gets in safely, only a Blissey can stop it. Gyarados also has a great ability which lets me bring him in easily on many attacks, including Scizor's Bullet Punch. From there, it's time for a sweep.
Purpose: Mid Game/End Game sweeper. He goes in on resisted moves and then boosts up for a sweep. Also, if for some reason Jolteon is still alive and weak, I can lure in Electric attacks to let Jolteon get some health back.
Item:
- Leftovers is a great way to get back some health when Gyarados is Bouncing. Bounce makes me immune to many attacks. And while Gyarados is in the air, Leftovers heals a tiny amount.
Ability:
- Intimidate is a great ability as it allows Gyarados to switch into Infernape, Swampert and Scizor with impunity. Infernape's strongest attack, Close Combat/Flare Blitz is severely weakened. Swampert's Stone Edge and Scizor's Bullet Punch are also both weakened.
Moves:
- Dragon Dance allows me to boost up my attack and speed.
- Waterfall is a great STAB move that allows me to hit Heatran, Scizor and Metagross harder than Bounce.
- Bounce gives me Dual STAB as well as a great move to hit Celebi and Tangrowth with.
- Taunt is a nice surprise to Pokemon who like to Paralyze/Burn Gyarados. With Taunt, they waste a turn not being able to do anything and I can switch to an appropriate counter if I need to.
Jolteon: With great synergy with Gyarados and a perfect typing, Jolteon is the essential Charge Beam sweeper. He comes in on Electric attacks directed at Gyarados and heals up 25% of it's health. This is very crucial when the battle comes to it's final stages as Jolteon would at high health and easily be able to sweep my opponent's team.
Why not another Special Sweeper? The only other Pokemon that can come in on Gyarados' Electric weakness would be Electivire. But, Electivire's special attack doesn't compete with Jolteon's special attack. Also, Electivire need the Electric attack in order to even attempt for a sweep whereas Jolteon can switch in on weak moves and still be able to sweep. Regardless, Electivire' just doesn't have the power to stand up to Jolteon.
Purpose: To absorb Electric attacks that are directed towards Gyarados. After that, he can switch in on weak hits such as Ice Beam and the like. He can also come in and get a couple of boosts with Charge Beam then sweep with the rest of his moves. He rarely comes in early game but if he does, then Gyarados will be used for end game.
Item:
- Leftovers allows for an easier time getting Charge Beam boosts.
Ability:
- Volt Absorb allows me to heal damage when I switch into Electric attacks. This combined with Leftovers allows for an easier way to sweep, as well as providing much needed bulk to Jolteon.
Moves:
- Charge Beam allows for a +1 boost 70% of the time.
- Thunderbolt is my main sweeping move that hits a lot of Pokemon.
- Shadow Ball allows me to hit various Ghosts such as Gengar and Mismagius harder than Thunderbolt.
- Hidden Power [Grass] is for those Swamperts who think they can switch in with impunity, punishing them hard for misprediction.
