So I finally tried building a new team and decided an offensive team would be fun to try as I had grown tired of my half stall half ??? hybrid sandstorm team. I am not the greatest player around so I wanted a team that could utilize a couple of utility type pokemon in order to set the stage for my sweepers.
Additionally I wanted somewhat bulky sweepers (though not all of em do) that have good resistances to pair along with some set up sweepers.
Without further ado here we go

Team at a Glance

The Lead
Coy (Azelf) @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Explosion
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Taunt
Yes the Dual Screen set is my choice here. First off I prefer dual screens over the default Azelf lead because it allow me to set up very easily with one of my sweepers particularly my bulkier ones, though it can help Infernape setup on a resisted attack. Taunt is a must on Azelf as Keeping Stealth Rock off the table is a must in a team with 2 major SR weaknesses. Explosion is great for when Azelf is low on health and needs to get rid of something preventing my sweep. Now some games I'll just Taunt, Dual Screen and Explode, but it isn't always necessary to do that. This can allow Azelf to come back and get another set of screens up and explode later. Azelf runs best with this set because there isn't any additional coverage I could really buy using the default set.
The Dancer
Eurythmics (Kingdra) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 24 HP/252 Atk/232 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall
- Outrage
Kingdra is a real mans dragon, one not weak to stealth rock or ice! In all seriousness though, Kingdra has very good defensive stats and great defensive typing that make it a premier bulky sweeper. If it comes in on a resisted attack, it can proceed to Substitute, Dragon Dance, and cause a major headache for the other team. With Dual Screen support and a Substitute up with lefties recovery, this thing becomes near impossible to take down. If my other teammates can clear out some of Kingdra's counters, particularly things like Bronzong, Metagross and Jirachi (Hmmm I see a trend) among others, Kingdra is about the best late game sweeper you can ask for. Also has solid synergy with Metagross. Swift Swim to abuse rain users (will become more relevant if Manaphy becomes OU).
The Stereotyped
Pith (Clefable) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP/152 Def/4 Spd/100 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Encore
- Thunder Wave
- Softboiled
- Seismic Toss
Repeat after me, Clefable is not Blissey with weight loss, Clefable is not designed to wall to high heavens in the OU environment. Clefable uses what is probably my favorite move in all of Pokemon, Encore. This is what sets it apart from Blissey, as well as what earns it a spot on my team. I originally had Togekiss here as it runs almost the exact same set (Air Slash over Seismic Toss), but I realized I did need some of the signature pink special defence to go along with a neutrality to Electric attacks. Encore lets me stop other teams from setting up on me as well as works as a PHaze in order to get me free switches (Which is crucial for a team like this) and also to spread status or get some healing done. Thunder wave helps neutralize things I can't out speed especially with Metagross. I've opted for solfboiled over wish, as I lost Clefable too often when I needed it. Seismic Toss is very useful to deal some damage. Clefable in all is the glue to this team and is probably an overlooked support player in OU.
The Wall Breaker
Devious (Infernape) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 HP/192 Spd/252 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Close Combat
NPMixape. One of the more explosive wall breakers in the game. Because of my supporting cast (Azelf and Clefable) they allow many more opportunities to switch in with the ape, keeping SR off the field, putting up screens, encoring stat-up moves or resisted moves. Because of this I can risk running the more explosive LO NP set. The moves provide solid coverage while keeping common walls (Skarm/Bliss) at bay and can threaten to 2HKO even Cresselia after a NP. With solid speed and Solid Synergy with Kingdra and the aforementioned supporters, Infernape gets many safe switchs in which he can punish opponents. He must be wairy of Bulky waters though so I may give him Grass Knot and give HP Ice to this guy.
The Niche
Aero (Zapdos) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 SAtk/ 252 Spd
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Thunderbolt
Other than the possible swap of hidden powers with Infernape, I really like this particular set on Zapdos. Because of the oft run T-bolt, HP Grass, Heatwave coverage, I can switch in and threaten a lot of steels, especially Scizor who is ever prevalent. I've willing to make this a more "traditional slot" on my team, Zapdos covers what Infernape misses and provides an unexpected boost to my team. It has great Synergy with both Metagross and Kingdra and allows them to do very naughty things. Roost helps with not only LO recoil, but also taking stealth rock damage if Azelf can't stop it from coming.
The Bulkiest Choice
Factor (Metagross) @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/236 Atk/8 Def/12 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
What would an offensive team be with out the resistances and power packed by CB Metagross. Along with the aforementioned Synergies and resistances, Metagross packs a whallop and gives me just the role I need. Because of all the setup sweepers the Choice Band on a pokemon of this bulk allows me to forgo setting up and get rid of things in a hurry. Bullet Punch is used over Thunder Punch as the Priority is more important as I have electric covered. Explosion is obviously used when Metagross has run his course and just like on Azelf can break open the game for his partners. 12 Speed EVs to out run other Metagross who follow the analysis. This can help clear the way for Kingdra's weaknesses (or pogeys that resist the king), and vice versa.
Overall this is my 3rd RMT (Most recent can be found http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52224&highlight=Mister+Militia)
I'm still trying to tweak this team. I will hopefully come back and do a threats list but just some notes. I lack a good Electric resist, especially weak to Jolteon. Other than that I need to play it some more as I make a lot of mistakes with it, and I think I could use some help.
I'm open to any and all suggestions. Help me get better.
