Setting up punching bags

Hello Smogon, I have posted RMT's before but that was back in my noobish 4th gen days (I seriously posted a team with Agility Blaziken in OU, what the hell was I thinking?). Anywho, I figured I might as well post this team of mine because it has been doing well and to be quite honest my teams always start out good in the building process but by the time I add the 5th and 6th members the team really falls on it's face. So that's where I hope my fellow Smogonites can help! So yeah.....on to the team building process! Unless you want to skip it, that's okay to.

Raikou_sprite_by_mvidmaster.png

So to start off the team I wanted to use Raikou, not much to say here. Uhhh, Sub Calm Mind, great set. yeah...

Raikou_sprite_by_mvidmaster.png

Alrighty next off I knew that hazards really help Raikou out a lot when it comes to sweeping, even more so with the bulky Sub Calm Minder I use. Deoxys-D sets down both Spikes and Rocks. Yay?

Anyone who plays UU knows that Stall teams are full of hazards and from the matches I play, at least half of them are Stall. Even worse is that lots of teams like using Roserade and her T-Spikes so I need a way to remove those because Raikou can't live long if he's poisoned. So Hitmontop was a must because he can use Foresight to spin against all ghost. He also get Intimidate which only aids in helping Raikou keep subs against physical opponents. So yeah by this point I thought the team looked awesome so I figured lets keep on going!

So now I realized that I probably need someone to prevent the spinning of my hazards. So Missy immediately became apart of the team. Heheh, no one ever expects her Sub Calm Mind set. Oh wait I already have one of those? Yeah she is a back up......just in case.

Ha! I am no longer susceptible to burn and/or poison and to an extent paralysis. Heracross absorbs it boosting his attack and, well he does whatever else Scarfed Heracross do.

Custom_Snorlax_Sprites_by_CodeGeorge.jpg

At this point Scarf Arcainine, and CB Arcainine were raping me with Flare Blitz.....so yeah. I just use Snorlax to be a semi counter to the Arcainine menace due to thick fat....yup...

So the same thing as above was happening, Snorlax was dead weight so I replaced him by the almighty Choice Specs Moltres to better combat Hail Teams that shredded me apart, second I replaced Hitmontop With Blastiose who spun better and could help me deal with Fire types such as Victini and CB Arcainine and last but not least I removed Missy because she wasn't pulling her weight either and died too often. Plus Golurk can fuck Chansey up without the set up and he forces tons of switches anyways. So more was gained than lost. Thanks to Snunch for suggesting these changes!

Raikou @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 128 HP / 76 Def / 52 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

My star player, and for a good reason! Once the opponents special walls, (Chansey....Snorlax....Fuck You), are dead Raikou will literally rip the opposing team apart. The Ev's while odd serve a very specific purpose. Max speed to out speed as much as possible. And the Hp/Def Ev's allow for a lot of bulk and guarantee that Raikou's sub will never be broken by Flygon's U-turn. Not much to say other than I go for bolt beam coverage, Sub adds some cushion like a human meat shield and that he is easily my favorite poke to use in UU.

386-defense.png

Deoxys-D @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Spikes
- Recover
- Stealth Rock

Deoxys-D is fucking amazing! He out speeds so many set up pokemon it's not even funny, that is why I run max speed and Taunt to prevent them from setting up. Yeah....Spikes, Rocks, they allow me to destroy teams faster than I could without them. Recover because I can...i'm actually thinking of replacing Recover with Night Shade because right now he is set up bait for Missy and her pals. I'm willing to take suggestions on him.

Blastoise_Sprite_by_mvidmaster.png

Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Roar
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam

Blastoise is Awesome!!! I switched him in for Hitmontop and never looked back. Roar is beautiful as it switches out boosters and what's better is that he takes all the fire type attacks that caused me problems earlier. I can no longer spin against ghost but I can hit them without losing momentum due to having to use Foresight. Scald is awesome and fucks up Donphan and Golurk and others of that sort. Ice Beam so I don't get overrun by Grass types on the switch, Max Hp/Def for maximum bulk. I love this guy! <3

golurk.png

Golurk @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 208 HP / 252 Atk / 48 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Focus Punch
- Shadow Punch
- Earthquake
- Substitute

Golurk is a monster and on a Hazard team like mine he causes the right switches into the most susceptible pokemon. Chansey and Snorlax get fucked by him pretty hard, he does so much. The Moves are pretty standard, Focus Punch murders Chansey and any non ghost switch in. Earthquake and Shadow Punch for reliable STAB. (Plus Iron Fist Boost Shadow Punch! :D) Substitute because his subs are huge and hard to break without a powerful hit, and it blocks poison and burn which he hates. Oh! The Ev's provide enough speed to outspeed Chansey, max attack for obvious reasons and the rest into Hp for bulk.

Heracross___Atlas_by_Nakugetsu.gif

Heracross (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

Hera is awesome and he is my status absorber. After getting burned Hera is like a double choiced pokemon. Power of the Choice Band, speed of the Scarf! Basically he is my Cobalion counter and Mew/Celebi Counter too, I use Jolly Scarf to out speed other Hera's. Close Combat/Megahorn provide solid powerful STABs. Stone Edge for coverage but I never use it unless necessary because Stone Edge always misses....Pursuit is there to trap Bulky Missy and Mew after they burn me and try to flee.

146.png

Moltres @ Choice Specs
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Air Slash
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- U-turn

Wow, That is all I said when I used Moltres and 2HKO'd a Chansey that came in at 50%. As my hail counter he fucks stuff up! u-turn allows me to scout and get Chansey down to the 50% Level so I can 2HKO that bitch. He is one of my favorites now because of the raw power and Ability to 2HKO virtually the entire tier with the appropriate move. Max speed and special attack for power and....well speed. Fire Blast because it's a high powered STAB that likes to miss a lot, Air Slash because it's more STAB and fucks up Milotic and Blastoise who think they can switch in on a Fire Blast. Hidden Power Grass because it fucks up Milotic and Blastoise even more. And U-Turn to Scout. He is the number one reason I keep Blastoise alive to Spin as long as the opponent still has their Stealth Rocker around.

So thanks for reading! Comment/Hate/Rate. Do what you will!

Threat List (Almost Complete)

Offensive

-Abomasnow-Ha! This guy makes me laugh, seriously all Hail teams get raped by Moltres. I normally lead with Moltres and Fire Blast away, yeah not much will switch in on him.
-Aerodactyl-Blastoise does well at handling him if Blastoise has good health, Otherwise Heracross is my only way to take Aero down fast.
-Alakazam-Annoying as hell, normally takes the combo of Hera and Golurk to dispatch the Sashed variants. Life Orb set takes the horn.
-Ambipom-A tad annoying with that Fake Out and switch tactic. Luckily Hera destroys him and Hazards minimize the switching.
-Arcanine-Haha! Blastoise is damn solid at stopping him. Heracross can Revenge, and Golurk gets a free switch if Arcanine locks himself into Wild Charge. Bulky Variants have nothing over Raikou and Moltres who tear them apart.
-Azelf-annoying but manageable, Falls under the same category as Alakazam.
-Azumarill-Blastoise/Deoxys
-Bisharp-Deoxys Set's up all over these guys as they tend to run Sucker Punch and Iron Head. So I set up hazards and prevent his set up. Simplicity....also Hera/Moltres really give him a hard time.
-Celebi-Hera/Moltres
-Charizard-Ha! Rocks fuck him up badly. Raikou can set up on special variants, Hera revenges.
-Cobalion-Hera/Golurk
-Crobat-Moltres and Raikou make him switch a lot. Hera revenges.
-Donphan-Blastoise/Moltres
-Dugtrio-The only one who is threatened by him is Raikou who happens to use Sub a lot and Hp Ice owns this bitch.
-Durant-Hera Revenges/Blastoise Roars him out.
-Eelektross-Moltres
-Electivire-Ha! on a serious note E-vire isn't strong enough to touch Golurk who Ko's back with Earthquake. Hera Revenges
-Emboar-Moltres/Hera/Blastoise/Golurk
-Escavalier-Moltres/Blastoise
-Flygon-Lots of Banded sets which are too damn slow, Scarfed isn't strong enough to do too much.
-Froslass-lots of switching around. Normally down to Hera/Blastoise attacking repeatedly.
-Gallade-Moltres/Hera
-Galvantula-Not too common but Raikou sets up on it pretty well.
-Golurk-annoying but manageable, I tend to switch in Blastoise and Scald it.
-Gorebyss-Blastoise to Roar him out, Hera outspeeds after Shell Smash
-Heracross-Moltres/Golurk
-Honchkrow-Blastoise/Hera
-Houndoom-Moltres/Raikou/Hera
-Huntail-Same as Gorebyss
-Jolteon-Raikou/Hera
-Kingdra-Blastoise to Roar it out
-Krookodile-Blastoise/Hera
-Lilligant-ugh....I normally get a sleep fodder and then switch in Moltres if it has Hp Fire and Hera if it Has Hp Rock
-Mamoswine-Hera/Moltres
-Medicham-Haha! Deoxys sets up this little guy
-Mew-Deoxys/Hera
-Mismagius-Hera and Raikou
-Moltres-Depends on the move, Blastoise/Moltres/Hera/Golurk/Raikou can set up or kill it if it locks it's elf into the wrong move.
-Nidoking-same as above
-Ninjask-Blastoise Roars it out
-Porygon-Z-Depends on the set, Scarf is raped by Deoxys/Raikou sets up on it. Nasty plot is fucked up by Hera, Agility is just a bunch of Life Orb Stalling
-Raikou-Hera/Golurk....Kind of a problem
-Rhyperior-Blastoise
-Rotom-C-Moltres
-Rotom-H-Golurk
-Rotom-F
-Sawsbuck
-Sceptile
-Scolipede
-Scyther
-Sharpedo
-Shaymin
-Sigilyph
-Smeargle
-Snorlax
-Stoutland
-Suicune
-Togekiss
-Venomoth
-Victini
-Weavile
-Yanmega
-Zoroark

This seems like a very good team but I do have a few suggestions. As you said, you struggle a bit against Arcanine, Victini, and other fire-types. This can be fixed by switching Hitmontop to Blastoise, who is generally a more effective spinner than Hitmontop and is also a very solid check to almost every fire-type in the tier.

My next concern is Mismagius. While it is a very good way of beating Chansey one-on-one, your team would really benefit from immediate pressure on Chansey. With a set like sub cm, Chansey can heal herself and potentially pass a wish to a counter before Mismagius can really become threatening. This defeats the purpose of a hazard-based team. SubPunch Golurk would work perfectly here.

The last point of interest is Snorlax. Snorlax fits very well on this team, being a great hazard abuser and hail check, both of which you benefit from greatly. However, given the current trend of Froslass abuse on hail as well as protect being such a common move, Snorlax might not be enough to check hail. I think you should sacrifice Snorlax's durability for a more powerful and more threatening choice user. Choice Specs Moltres fills this role nicely, 2HKOing most of UU and being very difficult for hail to handle. You can even abuse U-turn to rack up hazard damage on Chansey before going to Heracross or even Golurk!

Good luck with the team.
