ORAS OU Shadow Tagged

Welcome to yet another RMT from me. This specific team was created a while ago, before the introduction of Hoopa, which is mainly why I'm posting it. The meta is likely shifting and I'd like this team to keep up with it.

This team was built around Talonflame, but the inclusion of a certain Shadow Tag user allowed me to have a lot of fun with this team.

Talonflame (M)
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
- Acrobatics

Bulk Up Talonflame is a Pokemon I've had a lot of fun using recently. It can completely shut down physical attackers with Will-o-Wisp and Bulk Up, while the EVs allow it to handle special attacks as good as possible. Itemless Acrobatics allows Talonflame to deal good damage without killing itself as it usually does, and to add to its survivability, Roost is there. Roost is also great for many other things, such as tanking Rock Type moves better, or taking a predicted Volt Switch.

(I run a Sitrus Berry set with uneven HP EVs which works alot better than itemless, but since it's going to get shot down immediately I might as well not even write it down)

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Reflect Type
- Recover
- Scald

Because Talonflame immediately emphasizes the need for Rapid Spin or Defog, Starmie patches this problem extremely well. Bulky Reflect Type Starmie is extremely good in this game, since many top tier threats cant hurt themselves, such as Ferrothorn, Venusaur, and Rotom. It's also extremely useful against Pursuit, allowing it to beat Bisharp and switch out safely from Tyranitar. Recover is great as it allows Starmie to stall specific Pokemon, especially with Scald.

310.png

Manectric (M) @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Ice
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt

Another great partner for Talonflame, as it can take out a lot of its threats with ease. Things like defensive Lando T, Skarmory, and most bulky Water Types are handled by Manectric. It's movepool allows it to hit everything for at least neutral damage and a lot of things for super effetive damage. It also stands in a great speed tier, beating Pokemon like Mega Metagross and Serperior. Volt Switch also allows it to generate momentum, and it's spammability means that players will often switch in Ground Types, allowing Manectric to beat them with Hidden Power Ice.

598.png

Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Ferrothorn adds Stealth Rock support and creates a Fire Water Grass core along with Talonflame and Starmie. It's also great at shutting down fast Pokemon with Thunder Wave. Leech Seed is its only form of recovery in this occasion. Its very useful and allows it to wear down Pokemon with or without Iron Barbs. Power Whip is used specifically for Swampert, who rolls over this team otherwise.

202.png

Wobbuffet (M) @ Custap Berry
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Def / 248 SpD
Bold Nature
- Destiny Bond
- Encore
- Counter
- Mirror Coat

The star of the show and one of the most broken Pokemon in the game that is somehow still legal in OU. Shadow Tag gives Wobuffet guaranteed kills against alot of things. The main difference that sets it apart from the likes of Gothitelle is the influence it has on Offense, which is the biggest playstyle right now. Counter and Mirror Coat are literally overpowered in terms of their mechanics; they simply deal too much damage in my opinion. Encore allows me to ensure I know what the opponent will do next, while giving me the upper hand against anything that dares use a status move. Destiny Bond and Custap Berry are what make this set amazing. Getting free kills is what makes Shadow Tag overpowered, and getting a bonus free kill from priority Destiny Bond makes Wobuffet amazing as a Shadow Tag user.

Garchomp (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Claw
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Lastly, I wanted something to deter Charizard X along with other fast Pokemon that would prove problematic such as Diancie and the Latis. Overall Scarfchomp is great against many things in the meta, and can save you from getting swept.

Talonflame (M)
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
- Acrobatics

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Reflect Type
- Recover
- Scald

Manectric (M) @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Ice
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt

Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Wobbuffet (M) @ Custap Berry
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Def / 248 SpD
Bold Nature
- Destiny Bond
- Encore
- Counter
- Mirror Coat

Garchomp (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Claw
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Hey, you have a great team here!

The only thing I would suggest is to change Scarf Garchomp to Scarf Landorus-T. You mentioned that you wanted your Garchomp to beat 'mons like Diancie and Latios/Latias but I think Landorus-T would much better suit that role because it gives you the power to do all of those things plus it completes the Volt-Turn core with Mega Manectric. Since this team is based on trapping 'mons with Wobbuffet, I think the addition of a U-turn user would really benefit your team.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
I like your team and I hope I've helped you out. Good luck!

Expanding on what Rare Poison suggested (which i agree with pretty much), I would also consider psyshock on starmie because although reflect type is very useful, subcm keldeo can either severely damage or sweep your team as starmie won't be an answer to it and if wobba gets weakened manec will be able to beat it but you'll lose a few mons in the process. Otherwise seems fun and solid, gl! :]

Hi Rocxidi, nice team you have there! n_n There are a few minor changes I'll recommend for your team to improve it.
  1. You mentioned that Talonflame's supposed to run Sitrus Berry but you did not include it in the set since you felt that it would be shot down, in fact, I think that it's actually an innovative and good set. For the most part, a SpDef Talonflame switches in a lot on resisted hits and most of the time hazards such as Stealth Rock are up on the field so having Sitrus Berry allows you to come in on a hit much more easily while also healing up your Talonflame and boosts up your following hits from Acrobatic so I don't see anything wrong with it. Having an odd number for your Talonflame's HP isn't entirely wrong as well since it means that your Talonflame is capable of coming in with 51% of it's HP as it switches in the next time and it's not difficult at all for Talonflame to activate it's Sitrus Berry so that isn't an issue at all.

  2. Agreeing to what's already mentioned, a bulky Starmie with Psyshock is definitely required for the team since it's your best switch-in against things like Keldeo which can otherwise deal massive damage to your team.
    121.png
  3. For Ferrothorn, I'll recommend the standard spread which is 252HP / 88HP / 168SpD with a defensive nature. It helps your team to have at least a switch-in for Kyurem-B since Ice Beam takes 3 hits to kill which then you get to Thunder Wave it. With the SpD, it also helps Ferrothorn to come in against things like Latios/Latias better or dragons/fairies in general. Lastly, you may want to consider having Leftovers or Shed Shell as an alternative for Ferrothorn since it appreciates the recovery from Leftovers or the ability to switch out against things like Magnezone as teams with things like Gyarados + Magnezone can easily run over your's if they manage to get rid of your Ferrothorn early in the game.

Hope it helps n_n

For your reference, Wobbuffet fits better on offensive teams than balanced ones, as offensive teams are usually more capable of taking advantage of Wobbuffet's support capabilities. The choice between Pokemon is okay for a Wobb-based team, but it would probably work better with sets suggesting a more offensive approach.
The idea would be Spikes Ferro > SR Ferro since this team struggles a bit with bulkier teams and needs leverage against them (you aren't going to lose SR, you'll still have it, just on a different mon). I would also run at least 96 Special Defense EVs so you can survive a LO HP Fire from Latios after Stealth Rock, and proceed to paralyze it with Thunder Wave. Someone mentioned above 168 Special Defense EVs to better handle Kyurem-B, but you look like you have enough to keep it at bay. However, if it becomes a problem, you can run the spread Alkov mentioned.
SD Talon > BU Talon so you can apply more immediate pressure against the opponent. I personally prefer Adamant Taunt > Jolly Flare Blitz, as you can deal a lot more damage with Brave Bird by using an Adamant Nature, but since your team is going to want to keep Skarmory from setting up on Talonflame, Flare Blitz is probably the better choice.
LO Starmie > Bulky Starmie again so your team is able to put more pressure on the opponent; stockpiling offensive pressure + hazard stacking + Wobbuffet is enough to give you a lot of leverage against most offensive and balanced teams at the moment. I would use Thunderbolt > Psychic on Starmie because Talonflame really wants Slowbro out of the way, and Starmie is capable of busting through it with Thunderbolt.
Lum Berry + SD Garchomp > Scarf Garchomp so you have an easier time setting up Stealth Rock against Mega Sableye while being able to put a dent in Hippowdon and Landorus-T for Talonflame to take advantage of. Most of your team can ward off Mega Diancie, so a Scarf Garchomp isn't that necessary to deter it from coming in.

The sets would look like these:

Talonflame (M) @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- Brave Bird

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 0 Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Garchomp (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Make those changes, and you should be fine. Good luck!
