Introduction
So this is my second RMT on Smogon. I like to make teams around non-OU mons because it lets me explore uncommon movesets and is generally really enjoying to do. This time, I decided to center a team around Haxorus. Haxorus's gigantic base attack means that after a single DDance it can decimate teams. given a good core he can obtain the offensive pressure required to set up and sweep. Without further ado, except the teambuilding process, here is the team!
I wanted to start with this core, which seemed pretty solid. Scizor walls many of Haxorus's threats, providing a very solid resistance to Azumarill, Weavile and friends. This lets the big guy sweep unobstructed.
One mon that Scizor can't do anything against is Talonflame. One mon Talonflame can't do anything against is Tyranitar. So yeah. I went with a DDance variant because it's less common and people will generally not have a counter to it.
The team was very weak to burns and even Lum Berries on TTar and Haxorus didn't help. Thus Conkeldurr. He also gave a very handy check to Mega Lopunny, which TTar didn't like very much.
I then added Scarf Victini and all-out attacker Starmie, because the team desperately needed speed. Starmie checked Keldeo which I was hating quite a bit atm and Victini checked opposing Scizor and Ferro's and provided a late-game cleaner that I've found to be very reliable.
The Team
Cho'gath (Haxorus) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab
Haxorus, the star of the team, can destroy unprepared enemies. I use him mostly as a lategame sweeper alongside Victini, but if I get the DDance opportunity early I'll use it. Outrage over Claw because the power of Outrage is irresistible. Jab lets me check Azumarill because Haxorus resists Aqua Jet. Earthquake is Earthquake and I can hits Rotom-W with it due to Mold Breaker.
Technicolour (Scizor-Mega) @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bug Bite
- Superpower
- Bullet Punch
Scizor-Mega has grown to be possibly my favorite mega. It's my main WC in most games and hits insanely hard. Not much resists its moves and I get plenty of Swords Dance opportunities. I usually start setting up with him early game to attempt a sweep or dent the opposing team, after Fire types are eliminated.
Conk (Conkeldurr) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 112 Def / 120 SpD / 24 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
I love this guy's name. My Rotom-W check and general WoW and Toxic eater. Guts is my guardian angel, and once it's triggered, Conkel can force out many mons and dent teams noticeably. He stays in for a long time and nose(ha!) how to deal with many threats that my team struggles with.
Rex (Tyranitar) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
Massive bulk, only augmented by Sand Stream, makes Tyranitar an extremely reliable Pokemon to fall back on. Talonflame? Check. Dragonite? Check. Charizard? Check. Stone Edge over Rock Slide because Victini's ability makes it a lot more accurate and the damage is enormous. I use him as a switch in to Talonflame and a general tank.
Twinkle (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
Starmie is a blazing fast Pokemon that I've found to be insanely powerful. Hydro Pump over Surf because of Victini. Its moves give it wonderful coverage that is scarcely resisted or even hit neutrally by. I use it as my lead most of the time because it checks other common leads such as Heatran and Lando.
Blaze (Victini) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- U-turn
- Zen Headbutt
Victini after countless testing, is probably my team's MVP. Scarfed, it can outspeed the metagame and nuke with V-create. I mostly play him as a pivot and cleaner, as well as a revenge killer.
