Thanks to Wonder Guard, Shedinja is able to counter dangerous offensive threats such as Raichu, Bellossom, and Shell Smash Wartortle and common walls such as Togetic, Shiinotic, and Vespiquen. However, Shedinja's unique HP means it is threatened by every Pokemon that can hit it super effectively, as well as by residual damage from Hippopotas's sand and Toxic from common walls such as Corsola, Pyukumuku, and Klang. Thanks to Poltergeist, Shedinja can hit Rocky Helmet users such as Corsola, Stonjourner, and Shiinotic while avoiding contact. Shadow Sneak allows Shedinja to threaten faster Pokemon that can damage it such as Mr. Mime, Lunatone, and Swoobat. X-Scissor prevents Shedinja from being walled by Normal-types and itemless Pokemon and deals super effective damage to Ghost-resistant or -immune switch-ins such as Zweilous, Galarian Linoone, and Oranguru. With Swords Dance, Shedinja is able to more easily break through bulky Pokemon like Klang and Gloom lacking Toxic, as well as slower walls that are able to hit Shedinja such as Dusclops and weakened Corsola. Alternatively, Protect can be used to scout for super effective coverage from Pokemon that Shedinja can usually wall such as Beheeyem, Gloom, and Whiscash and from Choice item attackers such as Mr. Mime, Stoutland, and Octillery. If used on a stall team, Shedinja can opt for Toxic or Will-O-Wisp to cripple its checks.
Shedinja fits best on very offensive teams that appreciate its offensive presence and ability to spinblock Galarian Mr. Mime and Wartortle. Sticky Web set by Swirlix and Charjabug is especially potent when paired with Shedinja, alleviating its low Speed. Physical wallbreakers such as Grapploct, Fraxure, and Stonjourner weaken slow physical walls such as Corsola, Vullaby, and Shiinotic and enable Shedinja to break through them. Teammates such as Raichu, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Persian help against faster threats such as Stonjourner, Fraxure, and Gourgeist-L.
