Shell Sweeping

Team Shell Sweep

gorebyss.png

Gorebyss (M) @ White Herb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 HP / 24 SDef / 232 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Shell Smash
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Baton Pass

This is the star of the show. It's usually my lead 90% of the time. Basically, I use Shell Smash to buff stats. White Herb prevents one set of Defensive status loss, and sometimes, if I feel lucky, I'd pull another Smash OR TWO. Immediately following setup, I use Baton Pass to quickly switch into Conkeldurr or Dragonite. Having a +4/+6 ATK, SATK, and SPEED boosted Dragon or Machamp wannabe is a really really BIG issue. Once I can get that kind of set up, not even a full health Ferrothorn will stand in the way. I use Surf to make quick work of Ttar trying to set up his garbage. Ice Beam is to take out the Dragons trying to pull a fast one on me.

garchomp-f.png

Garchomp (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang

Garchomp can also be an astounding lead. In the case of Sandstorm, he can hop for the ride and abuse Sand Veil which can lead to some lucky avoids and misses. Basically, with him, it takes a LOT of foes off guard with a snobby Outrage that tends to perform a quick sweep through most setup Pokes. Being Scarfed, he does have his weaknesses if in an unfortunate scenario, the opponent switches in a Gliscor if I pull an Earthquake, but it's usually resolveable because I rely on Outrage. Fire Fang is for kicks on Sun teams every so often, and Stone Edge will take care of the genies. It usually takes out a Pokemon or two no problems whatsoever. Has problems with Ferrothorn, mainly because I mostly get stuck on Outrage.

suicune.png

Suicune @ Lum Berry
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Scald
- Calm Mind

This thing is brilliant. Running the standard ProCune build this time. Basically. Spam Scald to inflict status, then CM spam. Rest when necessary. Lum berry provides a full recovery. Great on Pokes that love to try and set up, ie., Blissey, Ferrothorn, etc. This also works well on Heatrans trying to decimate my Ferrothorn, and can be an effective switch on Sun teams trying to pull a fast one. Getting a +6 CM Suicune is scary stuff. One scald and it takes out at least 60% of a Blissey's life. Perfect for status feeding.

conkeldurr.png

Conkeldurrp (Conkeldurr) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Mach Punch
- Payback
- Drain Punch

With 416 attack, be careful. This thing has swept many many teams 6-0. With a Shell Smash Baton Passed to this guy, his attack becomes 806. It also becomes even scarier when the opponent tries to inflict status. Jirachis can no longer pull sneaky stunts of Thunder Wave or Quagsires with Toxic. It basically just needs a few stages of either Bulk Up, or a Shell Smash, and it becomes a powerhouse that spams Mach Punch for massive damage. With a two stage boost in speed from a smash, it outspeeds Ttars (worthless with Mach Punch) and can pull a Drain Punch recover on Ferrothorns and steel pokes with minimal damage. No more fear of Steel type pull ins from Magnezone, just spam a Mach Punch. Sand teams face major issues when this guy gets a few stat boosts. No more fearing Excadrill running Balloons. Mach Punch usually saves the day.

ferrothorn.png

Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Spikes

I'd feel quite bad if you had this boy to play with. Mienshaos better think twice when they see this and try to lead. All I need to do is switch my Gorebyss for this guy, and Fake Out will result in massive damage to the user from Rocky Helm, Iron Barbs, etc. Takes out about 40% life right there. Damn right you're gonna U-Turn your ass out. This boy really fears fire attacks and fighting attacks though... Conkeldurrs take it out with little issues, and Heatran makes this poor guy a fried plant, unless I switch into my Suicune. Skarmory can no longer pull its Brave Bird on Conky because I can switch into Ferrothorn. Leech Seed just saps life like crazy, and Power Whip smashes Ttars and Rain teams hard for a few casualties. I swept many rain teams with Ferrothorn ALONE. It's been great. I rarely use Spikes, need a replacement soon... since I rarely get time to set up with Spikes, as I don't run Stealth Rock.

dragonite.png

Dragon Tales (Dragonite) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- ExtremeSpeed
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

What can I say about Dragonite...? It's a very devastating monster when buffed with Smashes. One Shell Smash gives it a menacing 777 Speed, and 840 Attack. Ferrothorns become a laugh with Fire Punch handy, sand teams fail to last with Earthquake in tow, except Excadrill running Air Balloon crap. Dragon Claw takes out Latios and other OU Dragons with no worries whatsoever. ExtremeSpeed takes out many many different pokes trying to pull a switch in. With Multiscale, I can switch into an ice attack and limp out of it. The major problem most foes face is... What happens after TWO Shell Smashes, or heaven forbid, THREE? With THREE Smashes, let's just say that Ferrothorn at full life would not survive ExtremeSpeed. Neither will anything else. I've swept with ONLY ES after 3 stages for a quick 6-0. I can't even count how many times that was. Two Shell Smashes will give him a +4 stage attack of >1000, and his speed becomes even scarier. If you can pull a 3, tell the foe to forfeit, and forfeit quickly. They die in a few turns, no matter what.

-Threats-
-Skarmory
-Quagsire
-Jirachi
-Gliscor
-Hail Stallers
-Whimsicott
-Sub Seeders

Well guys, that's it! I hope you guys enjoy and find a use for my team. It's gotten good results on ladder, and I hope you guys can help make it better! :)

Wouldn't lifeorb gengar sweep this team easily with the common set

Gengar @ lifeorb
Hidden power ice
thunderbolt
shadowball
focus blast

TBH, I never worried over Gengar. He's hella frail, and I have only seen that build once, and what I've done is either Outraged with Garchomp, or I just have a slightly Bulk'd Conkeldurr use Payback. Payback is always my fallout move when I don't have a way to target those Psychic/Ghost types, like Reuniclus and Jellicent. Also, most of my Pokes can easily outspeed Gengar with Shell Smash boosts. I hardly see that particular build around when I play, let alone as a lead. Maybe it's me... :) Counter for it though would be great! :)

I'm not quite sure what kind of trouble Quagsire, or at least his standard builds posted here on Smogon, brings to your team with Ferrothorn and his Power Whip, unless you are always switching into Yawns. And I wasn't sure if you aren't running Stealth Rocks because you are opposed to it, but I can see that over Spikes working pretty well. Otherwise, maybe test Thunderwave a bit, which can help your slower sweepers do good work even without Smash Passes.

Similarly, at least in my shaky Theorymon, your CroCune should be able to handle Gliscor, who is 3HKO'd by +2 Earthquakes and has the potential to 2HKO with unboosted Scalds, Toxic Heal considered, in return.

And just one more thing to consider so Skarmory, Gliscor, and other Physical walls can't repeatedly threaten Dragonites +2 sweeps is Fire Blast > Fire Punch and a Lonely nature. It maintains the coverage Dragonite needs, still gets love from Shell Smash, but you lose some physical bulk, which isn't ideal if Stealth Rocks is around to break Multiscale. However, it's a guaranteed OHKO on Skarm and does 60%~70% on Gliscor, which is more than Fire Punch. Obviously its poor accuracy and low PP is something else to keep in mind, but it may be just what you need to put weakened Physical walls like those two under.

Basically, if I lose Ferro, and the foe still has Quagsire, it's a problem because I can no longer stat buff due to unaware. It gets to the point where he Stockpiles 3 and I have to bank on a critical hit. Not my idea of fun. I'm definitely running a TWave in place of Spikes as I have no rocks.

Well, I could see trying Vaporeon over Suicune, since Unaware really does hate on Smash Passing:

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EV's: 248 HP / 252 DEF / 8 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Wish
- Toxic
- Heal Bell/Protect/Roar

I personally prefer Suicune for your team, since he's both an offensive and defensive presence, but I feel it may be something worth testing once or twice. Scald to maintain burn spam, Multiscale and Ferrothorn would love some Wish passing and Toxic so you don't lose the ability to check BlissChans type walls as well as Quagsire. The final slot (all slots really) is more of what you prefer Vaporeon doing for the team. Heal Bell and Wish to keep the team healthy since Suicunes RestTalking won't be around to eat status. Protect means Wishing Vaporeon back to health is easier and also scouts attacks. Roar to phaze set up attempts within Vaporeons ability to tank.
Throwing a couple Toxics around on switches may also help you with Subseeders, not Venusaur, who really don't like to be poisoned, but thats a really situational solution.

So if you don't get one or two smashes off then pass with your lead, your team suffers a lot? Or does it usually hold its own even without the smashes?

It can hold quite well in any case, but there are a certain few, like any other team, that it struggles with. New problem emerges on the higher parts of the ladder with Reuniclus setting up Trick Room. That causes issues as it outspeeds most of my team and then they all get Psychic'd to death. Dropped 500 points due to Reunicluses getting the better of me.

Maximum potential has been reached with stats. I got to rank 198, pretty thrilled over that, as I never get over 500. :( But, status wise, I achieved a 6-stage Shell Smash Conky WITH Guts status infliction (poison) for a maximum attack of 2496. RUN AWAY. Mach Punch will blow the shit out of your ass.
