I had been away from Shoddy for a while with a lot of things on my mind. Lately I really needed the break and decided to log onto the Smogon server to clear my mind. I had been challenged an unusual number of times, but all by players of relatively low skill.
And then Sheep challenged me :O. I have played Sheep before and won against against a test Rain Dance Team, but I had luckily brought Vaporeon to wear out a couple turns of the rain. Needless to say, I know Sheep is quite the experienced battler, and he knows I am of a decent skill level myself. I decide to accept the challenge. Maybe this battle will help me get my mind off things :P?

An Infernape Lead. I assume it's an Anti-Lead Infernape presented a while back that seems to be getting more popular with Platinum. I don't want to reveal my Salamence in the case of a bluff lead either, and I have Tentacruel to resist all of Scizors attacks and handle Roostless versions quite nicely if all goes bad. I also have seen the use of Encore work quite nicely, so I opt to stay in and Thunderbolt over Substitute in an attempt to dish out some damage if he wants to predict a switch and Stealth Rock, or maybe absorb even Fake Out.

From this I know that it has Life Orb, so it's probably not the Anti-Lead. I'm predicting a switch here, since he doesn't have focus sash. He knows I am a fair player, so he might predict Heat Wave or Hidden Power Ice expecting the switch to something that can absorb a T-Bolt. I decide to switch to a Tentacruel, a decent counter to Infernape and still scares away any grounds who come in to absorb the Thunderbolt. It also allows me to possibly set up Toxic Spikes.

Well, a paralyzed Tentacruel is rather disappointing, but not really hindering to it. After Tentacruel gets up the Toxic Spikes, he's really just there to absorb other Toxic Spikes and allow my Machamp to Substitute/Bulk Up Machamp to sweep from behind Screens, and serve as a backup to Roostless Scizor as he resists all common attacks. He knows that Leech Seed will end up hurting him because of the Liquid Ooze. I am hit for neutral damage by Grass Knot, and Psychic in the worst case won't OHKO. I really need the Toxic Spikes up as they allow my Zapdos to ToxiPressure Stall with Substitute.

I'm assuming it's scarfed, as I've seen a couple lately. Leaf Storm will wear down his Sp Atk, allowing me to get up Toxic Spikes and still take fire attacks relatively well, so he will probably switch. I have Salamence for his Fighting/Fire Combination on Infernape, and Salamence takes Heatran's Fire attacks okay too. This makes Tentacruel my backup for this round to absorb fire attacks and Toxic Spikes. The second layer is necessary, because one layer will actually help him more than it will hurt him. Also, as his Sp Atk decreases, Bronzong can come in on the resisted, lowered Sp Atk Leaf Storm and set up a Light Screen and weaken an incoming fire attack's damage output. From this I gather he might not have Heatran. Scizor virtually has no fears of Bronzong, so I'm fairly sure he doesn't have it. That takes a bit of stress off Tentacruel. Here he can either Surf for manageable damage, Roar me out, Substitute and then Calm Mind, or try to Calm Mind with a Life Orb. Lucario is a threat to my team, but I can always Thunderbolt predicting the switch. That's actually a poor move to make even if he does predict the switch; Two fire resistances are knocked out and a Thunder Weakness is knocked out. It hits all those most Stall Pokemon while still allowing me to Thunder Wave pokemon immune to it that are oh so common switches to Celebi: Salamence, Heatran, Scizor. I'm assuming he'll switch to his Celebi, but I don't really have a safe switch as he is scarfed and my last three pokemon are all weak to ice if he has it. My Toxic Spikes are out so I can conceivably stall him out with Recover, however in Hidden Power Fire's case I know I can survive with just enough to Roost, and a critical hit won't matter much; It should allow me to ToxiStall and take a hit from Salamence's Outrage, stalling a turn out of a possible three turn outrage. One more turn. He won't switch out as Stealth Rock will finish him on the switch in. The best he has is to hope for the critical hit. Meanwhile, I know Recover on this turn puts me back at 100%. I know a Banded Outrage is too much for Celebi to handle. After my Celebi hits Salamence with the Thunder Wave, My SpecsMence does a fine job of cleaning up. Speak of the devil. The critical hit's importance was relatively low; I'm now at 80%~ instead of 100%. I might have been able to Recover off the damage from his Banded Salamence assuming he sends it in, and hope for some Thunder Wave hax to get back up to 100% and tank out the Outrages until confusion, although that's a 25% of happening, so it's not reliable. The Critical hit comes a turn later than I expected :P Lucky for me I don't switch out to Zapdos or Celebi and try to Thunder Wave it I guess. I'm going to send in Zapdos here and attempt a Heat Wave.
Fate switched in Zapdos (lvl 100 Zapdos).
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!

Lucario is a threat to my team, but I can always Thunderbolt predicting the switch. That's actually a poor move to make even if he does predict the switch; Two fire resistances are knocked out and a Thunder Weakness is knocked out. Thunderbolt is a poor move statistically even if he does switch out. I need Lucario down none-the-less, and with Heat Wave being the superior move...
Zapdos used Heat Wave.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Lucario lost 250% of its health.
Sheep's Lucario fainted.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

A slow Lucario :P. Two critical hits in a row will probably mean that the rest of this game will have a low number of Hax, so I'm glad for that. I don't know what he'll switch too as I've downed every threat barring Celebi at this point, and Celebi isn't coming into Zapdos at this HP. Needless to say, the Critical Hit wasn't necessary.
Sheep switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence).

I hope Salamence isn't a SpecsMence as I know at this HP I can survive a banded Outrage and hit back with Thunder Bolt, as I have no safe switch now. He might switch out to something immediately to scout an ice attack, so Substitute is always okay as I should live with enough HP to make a Substitute after a banded Outrage just in case.

Zapdos lost 25% of its health.

I survive with 8% after Leftovers and Substitute. I am in quite a pickle here. I was hoping he would predict my HP Ice, but this is a banded variant. I decide to Roost now, as the Absence of Stealth Rock means I can come in relatively healthy next time and sacrifice an almost useless Tentacruel his outrage if it continues three turns, causing confusion.
Salamence used Outrage.

Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 50% of its health.

I'm up at about 65%~. That's healthy enough to come in on his Scarfed Celebi and Roost up if I don't come in on a Super Effective hit. Too bad though his outrage hasn't ended. I have to sacrifice the Tentacruel, as I need Celebi's Thunder Wave to make Salamence slower. This will allow me to sweep with my Specsmence Dragon Pulse unless his sixth pokemon can take the hit.
Fate switched in Tentacruel (lvl 100 Tentacruel).

Time to go to Celebi and attempt a Thunder Wave. Thunder Wave actually doesn't conflict with Celebi as much as you would think with Toxic Spikes down. I decide to try and Thunder Wave and hope for the best.

I realize with Both Bronzong and Tentacruel gone, my Ice resistances are effectively knocked out and that all of my pokemon left are weak to Hidden Power Ice. However Celebi sports a weakness to Scizor, so he might be carrying Hidden Power Fire. I send in Zapdos and try to roost off some lost HP.

Unfortunately Celebi carries Hidden Power Ice. I've no experience with offensively EV'd ones. I decide my Zapdos is useless at about 20% and chuck it for the Toxic Stall.

If he switches to something besides Salamence, then at worst my SpecsMence has a speed tie with his BandMence

I can also Toxic and Leech Seed stall anything that doesn't get hit by Thunder Wave.

I'm assuming his unrevealed sixth can't out damage his Salamence Physically, leaving it to be a Special Sweeper. I assume it isn't Yanmega, Togekiss, or SubGengar; as those would literally tear my Celebi to shreds.

Outrage does a bit less than I expected. I guess that he did around minimum damage and that with above average damage he will finish me next turn. Recover is a stalemate if I get Paralysis hax, and I'm playing to win; I need to Leech Seed and if he is Paralyzed it allows me to Recover and take a hit, causing confusion if his outrage lasts three turns.

Above average damage takes me out as I though. Well now that he's Paralyzed, I can send in Specsmence and ensure a Dragon Pulse hits first because his Salamence is now slower than mine due to paralysis. He won't switch out because his Salamence can't finish mine after.

My hopes rise a bit as I realize he chose to send Salamence into Celebi, so his sixth probably won't be able to out damage Salamence. However this is Sheep; I'm still quite nervous. Judging by his offensively geared team, it might be able to take my Salamence.

I wipe the sweat on my forehead off as my heart races. I was thinking earlier he wouldn't have Togekiss; What does he have in store for me? I don't know how much a Togekiss can do to my Salamence, but I'm pretty sure after Stealth Rock I can out damage Roost and eventually win with Dragon Pulse. Thunder Wave only gives him a slight chance of winning and unless he has Hidden Power Ice, this match should be mine. A fitting ending for great battle.

Good game, Sheep. Thanks for the great game :]
Props:
• Togekiss for the fantastic finale.
• Sheep's Salamence for running through the defenses of my team.
• My Salamence for beating up another Salamence.
• Lucario for being absolutely adorable.
Slops:
• Machamp for not sweeping like my team is designed to have him do.
• Suicune for pretty much being set up for Bronzong.
This was a great game that I will definitely remember. Lots of teamwork and no outstanding end-all sweeper. Every member gave to the battle what it could. No Bog Standards, yet still effective teams; What a war-story should be. I'm absolutely taken by the ending as well :P
This is my first warstory, and I don't have War Machine to format it for me. If the formatting is terrible I'm sorry :P.
