Silicon dioxide team; My first pokemon team ever.

Hi there! I’m new to both Smogon, and competitive pokemon play. For those reasons this is of course my first RMT post. My English is not too good either, but I did my best when writing this down. I hope I don’t offend any of you with bad English and newbie descriptions. Silicon dioxide is the most common particle i sand. This is obivously an attempt on a Sandstorm team.
This is the team:

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sandstream
EVs: 252 HP/80 def/176 SpA
Quiet nature (+Spa, -Spe)
- Crunch
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

He is usually my lead for obvious reasons. He sets up Sandstorm and Stealth Rocks. Crunch is a great stab move, and is most used against Lati@s. Ice Beam is great for Gliscor and dragons, while Fire Blast gives a lot of Skarmorys / Ferrothorns a nasty surprise even though this set is quite common it seems. I’m not sure exactly what the Evs does, but the extra bulk makes Tyranitar harder to kill, and the SpA Evs makes his average Special Attack pretty decent.

Rotom-W ( ) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/88 Def/168 SpD
Calm nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Discharge
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

This is the one on the team I need the most help with. I got this set from a friend, and it has been working ok. Most Rotom-Ws are physically defensive, but with Skarmory and Reuniclus on the team already I wanted something that could take special hits. He is also good to have against Rain teams. Discharge and Hydro Pump for Stabs and decent cover, pain split for some Recovery, and Will-O-Wisp to cripple opponents. I know Pain Split is better used with lower HP investment. Hope someone could help me with Rotom-W, I feel like it has greater potential.

Garchomp (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spee
Jolly nature (+Spee, -SpA)
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Substitute
- Swords Dance

He used to be scarfed, not sure wich set that is best suited for my team, hope you guys can help me out here aswell. This set has allowed me to get a decent amount of sweeps, but I kind of miss a revenge killer, as I usually save my Excadrill for a late game sweep. I really like this set, but I’m not sure which one I should choose. I usually bring him in on something I can kill, and I set up a sub on their switch. I sometimes get some Sand Veil haxes to help set up as well. Evs for max power and speed.

579.png

Reuniclus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
Modet nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Grass Knot

I really like this guy. He takes hits like a boxer and sets up all over the place. Recover away damage, and sweeps. Psychic for stab. I know Grass Knot don’t give it the best coverage, but i do really need it to take certain waters, and especially Quagsire who I can’t touch otherwise. Max HP and Def for bulk. Calm mind boosts up the other to relevant stats.

227.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
Impish nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

I felt it was a revelation to get a phazer. Since im kind of a noob, I usually let people set up too often, so it is great to have Skarmory to whirlwind them away! He is my Physical Wall, and can really be annoying to some teams. Great to set up some spikes as well.

530.png

Excadrill(M) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spee
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide

This guy is soo good! He is my late game sweeper, and is almost unstoppable in the sandstorm. It is important that I keep Tyranitar alive to the end, if the opponent also has a weather inducer. If Sandstorm is not up, Excadrill is useless. I rarely set up a Swords Dance, but it happens sometimes. The three moves give great coverage and OHKS a lot with Excadrills massive attack.

I know there are some things here that could be better, and i would really appreciate any help. This team is working incredible well considering I am such an inexperienced player. I think I have 19 victories and 2 losses or something on Pokemon Online. It is probably because I meet other noobs as well, but I hope this team is not too horrible.

All comments are appreciated!

This is a cool team, but you're going to have alot of trouble with Terrakion. Air Balloon+Swords Dance+X-Scissor can sweep you clean if Skarmory has taken a bit of prior damage, and nothing will like switching into a CB Close Combat. Now that Garchomp is banned, I recommend trying Gliscor in its place - he is a very reliable Terrakion counter and plays in a similar manner to Chomp.

@ Toxic Orb
Impish | Poison Heal | EVs: 244 HP / 176 Def / 88 Spe
Swords Dance | Taunt | Earthquake | Ice Fang

The HP investment hits a Poison Heal number, speed investment outruns most other Gliscor, defense investment hits a bonus point.
The other thing I had in mind is to switch Skarmory's defense EVs into special defense with a Careful nature. This will allow you to sponge Latios' Draco Meteors better, and it will also let you check CM Virizion. Good team and good luck!

Hello there, Nidoking10. Hope I can help you a little with your team.

Your team seems pretty standard, but I can see some flaws. For example, as you may know, since yesterday Garchomp is banned from the OU metagame, so we need to find a replacement for that pokemon inmediately. The other major problem I see is that you are weak to Virizion in some manner, who can kill some of your pokemon in your team.

A typical replacement for Garchomp would be:

330.png

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Atk)
Trait: Levitate
4Sp.Atk /252 Atk/ 252Spd

-Outrage
-U-turn
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast

It fills as he cans the role of Garchomp but, unfortunately, it doens't have the same power. But it does his job done, so I think you can rely on him.

Now, let's talk about your Virizion weakness... Reuniclus acts as a great Virizion counter, but you might consider adding another member which can face him if Reuniclus is defeated. I would suggest chaging Skarmory for Forrestress, but as your team is I think you can be alright if you play well and think your moves, don't letting Virizion set up CM.

Try 112 HP / 252 SpA / 144 SpD for you Rotom-W for better use of Pain. You don't need Grass Knot for your Reuniclus because after a Calm Mind boost or two you'll be hitting Quagsire better with your STAB Psychic. I say switch it for Focus Blast or Shadowball for better neutral coverage.

Quagsire has unaware, therefore ignoring the CM boosts, so grass knot is needed
