I assume yes but figure it's worth a confirmed ask.

If a Pokemon Terastalizes, does Adaptability only affect their new type (as opposed to their old ones plus Tera like normal STABs affect)?

Example:
Bisharp has 1.5x STAB Boost on Steel and Dark (Naturally)
If Bisharp terastalizes into Dark it has 1.5x STAB on Steel and 2.0x STAB (aka Adaptability) Boost on Dark
To be clear, I was referring to the actual Adaptability ability, not the Tera-like effect boost alone.

A comparison that might better illustrate it: If I have a Crawdaunt terastalize into a Fighting type, does he get the 2x STAB on Water, Dark, and Fighting, or only on Fighting while Water/Dark have the "normal" 1.5x STAB that non-Adapatability hits get?

Curious because I saw discussion of using an Adaptability Terastal lure (or attacker otherwise) and the specifics seem iffy if the Pokemon gives up power on its old STABs to use the new one. At the same time I'm curious if it works since Terastal still remembers the old types specifically for STAB purposes.

Oh okay yeah I didn't understand your initial question:

If you tera into a new type the old type doesn't have adaptability anymore (you lose it and only works for the new type) Crawdaunt would only get 2x STAB on Fighting and normal 1.5x STAB on Water and Dark.

According to Bulbapedia, you now only gain Adaptability on your new type. If it was one of your original types, it's a 2.25 boost instead.

' When a Pokémon with Adaptability is Terastallized, Adaptability has no effect on any type besides the Tera type. If the Pokémon's Tera type is one of its original types, its STAB is 2.25. If the Tera type is different, its STAB is 2. '

This is true.

Thanks for the answers, now I'm curious who good users would be. Like if any Adaptability Pokemon exist that would definitely prefer a new big-STAB even at the expense of (part of) their old ones, or would they just always be better served super charging a main STAB to try and power over typical resists.

As someone who didn't play too much of the last gen, and trying to get back into Gen 9. I could be wrong, but I feel this meta is super offensive based. Almost every team has some form of a set-up sweeper or perhaps a late-game revenge sweep. Am I wrong? Is there a particular reason? I understand stall was nerfed. But it does feel like whoever can set up at the right moment, will probably win. Is just lack of pokemon?

Gen 9 is probably the biggest power creep that a new generation has had. The addition of Paradox pokemon is a game changer, on top of Tera can be used both defensively and offensively. Pokemon who use their own type Tera have a big boost, but it's mainly due to the fact of all the new additions of Pokemon and moves. So much so that all currently banned Pokemon, by quickban, have been related to offence. All are breakers and sweepers bar Cyclizar, however that was insane support for Hyper Offence.

Is it ok to be bad at laddering but good in other areas like teambuilding, tours, etc?
I mean, I don't really understand what answer you're expecting to that question when it's a bit subjective. The ladder is the ladder, some people find if easier to rise than have success in tours and vice versa. There are some ladder players who don't have a good history with tours. You can have knowledge of a metagame and have understanding of the game, but sometimes applying this practically doesn't work out for some people. (I.e Very big on C&C, RMT and Tutoring etc. But not good with actually battling)

Good evening, I would like to participate in the tournament on Monday 23rd and this will be my very first Smogon tournament, so I have a question: at what time will this tournament start (I live in France, I specify)?
Thank you for your reply^^
