Simply A Bibarel Discussion

Traits:
Simple: Stat Changes are doubled.
Unaware: Stat Changes(besides speed) are ignored.

Notable Physical:
Super Fang
Quick Attack
Waterfall
Aqua Tail
Facade
SuperPower
Focus Punch

Most Notable is Super Fang, probably.

Notable Special:
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Grass Knott

Good, but with 55 Special Attack, you ain't doing nothing with these.

Support:
Yawn
Amnesia
Swagger
Protect
Sleep Talk
Odor Sleuth
Defense Curl
Thunderwave
Stealth Rock

Sadly, no Swords Dance or Nasty Plot for Simple abuse, but some interesting options nonetheless.

Possible Movesets:

Bibarel@Choice Scarf
Simple/Timid Nature
Super Fang
Shadow Ball
Stealth Rock
Thunderwave

Support set, and probably the only one that works in OU, where Simple Abuse of Choice Scarf allows you to Super Fang basically everything, while Shadow Ball is there to hit Ghosts and the other two are filler.

Basically, this Pokemon has two abilities that only it receives, and both are ones that others would give a nut or two for. However, overall below-average stats and support movepool keep it from being more than a novelty in OU. However, Amnesia allows it to be a half-decent UU special wall, and Unaware works perfectly with Swagger. If it's worth anything, he's better than Raticate.

CB Raticate > Bibarel

Simple is such a cool ability, but being such a low stats Pokemon i don't understand why Gamefreak didn't give it Curse to work well with its Ability???

Imagine if Bibarel learns Curse, i would use a moveset like this...

Bibarel@ Lefties
-Curse
-Return
-Waterfall
-Superpower

Other notable options could be Quick Attack and Focus Punch

Anyway this a "dream" post :P, Bibarel is doomed to low tier UU if not NU :S

The only way he could work is by recieving ANYTHING BP'ed. And with his ability he doesn't even need THAT much of a boost to be capable of hurting.

You completely overlooked Charge Beam, which is really fun on this guy.

Otherwise, nothing much. It makes me rally angry that they put two awesome, unique traits on a junky beaver.

Raticate finally loses Super Fang as a unique move, but it seems that Super Fang dooms a Pokemon to lower tiers.

That said, you could make a moveset revolve around it that basically tries to encourage Pokemon to switch as much as possible spread the Super Fangs around. I mean, 50% damage on anything that switches in (except Ghosts) is nice. I guess Swagger and Thunder Wave could work, and hopefully Bibarel can handle anything immune to Thunder Wave.

I just hate that Super Fang has finally been put on non-Raticate family pokemon and both are pretty much on par, if not inferior, to Raticate.

Are you sure about this? Serebii says that Simple doubles the power of your hold item.

When in doubt, go to the trait research thread, not Serebii. Serebii's descriptions are based off their (potentially inaccurate) translations of the Japanese DP text. As a matter of fact, the English DP description for Simple says absolutely nothing about items, although it is vague.

I'm more of a fan of Unaware Bibarel myself, and I'd probably put him on an anti-OU UU team. It's nice to have something that can stand up to a Tyranitar with 6 Dragon Dances and Superpower the hell out of it.

Since speed isn't ignored, Unaware does you very little good against Dragon Dancers, who probably KO Bibarel anyway.

Given this Pokemon will be UU at best, Bibarel works against the wide collection of Swords Dancers that will show their faces. The question is whether Superpower/Blizzard/Thunder/Surf or somesuch will be sufficient to really hurt things. I guess we'd need to know more about UU to decide.

it makes a really nice special wall. with only one Ammnesia it gets a 4 stage boost raising its special defense by 200%. Defense Curl also becomes a good attack.

I'm not sure if simple doubles stat changes on the opponent though. if it does than Growl could be really useful for weakening physical sweepers.

I was expecting do a Bi-barel roll!!!!

Anyway, the choice scarf set you have seems just bad. It's trying to do too many things at once, like my DD'ing wish mence I used to use.

But who uses growl? Stat reducers aren't entirely rare, but I don't think they're that worrying. Still would be nice to know how they affect it.

Bibarel is my favourite DP Pokemon. :]

Both haters and lovers of Double Team have a good reason to use Bibarel:

For the DT lovers, Simple Bibarel using Double Team is as if it had used two in one turn.

For the DT haters, Unaware Bibarel automatically ignores all Double Teams used by the opponent just by switching in.

Indeed. That's because Simple Bibarel and Unaware Bibarel are two very different Pokemon.

There's always this gimmicky set to play around with. :p

Bibarel @ Salac Berry
Trait: Simple
Modest Nature (Sp.Atk +, Attack -)
- Charge Beam
- Surf
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Restalk keeps the ugly beaver alive for a little longer, and Charge Beam takes advantage of its trait. Surf for STAB. I'm pretty sure Salac also takes advantage of its trait. Unfortunately it gets walled by Grass and Dragon types. :(
