Teambuilding Process
I wanted to build a team around scrafty, so that was the first choice. I chose the dragon dance set, as it has nice momentum and can revenge kill if need be.
Next i added latias for a bulky CM boosting poke. Initialy i tried the standard set, but ended up using a shuffling variant as it is rather unexpected and also can phase with roar.
Next i added tormentran, as it is an annoying MFer and covers the volcarona and scizor weaknesses of the other two, as well as dominating choice users in general.
In order to aide in the stalling nature of tormentran, i needed a toxic spiker. This would also help finish off bulky pokemon and help my sweepers in wall-breaking. I ended up choosing roserade since it also offered speed, status with sleep powder and some reasonable special offence on the side.
I found that my team was rather weak to physical attacks and didn't have a solid revenge killer since scrafty really needs DD to out-speed most things, so i decided to add scarf metagross to the team.
When debating the last spot, i noticed that a fast taunt user such as deoxys s could screw a few of my pokes over, so i wanted one of my own that wouldn't burden the team too much. I ended up deciding on a unique variant of thundurus that would set up and exploit most of the support pokemon out there in order to boost its stats enormously via nasty plot.
In order to patch up my physical/fighting weakness, bronzong was added as it walls physical attacks amicably, with better defences in general than metagross. This freed up roserade's spot on my team for CM reuniclius in order to break stall and hard counter fighting types.

In depth
380.png

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Roar
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind

This latias is a version i stole from another RMT thread, which ended up working out better than the standard CM set for me. Its role in the team is lessened by the gross zong switch and rose reunclius switch (both replacing the need for a levitater and a CM boosting sweeper) so the only reprieve it has is as a second roar user. Since I am volcarona weak, I will probably end up switching this poke out to patch the weakness.

200px-560Scrafty.png

Scrafty (M) @ Lum Berry (Life Orb)
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Hi Jump Kick (Drain Punch)
- Crunch
- Ice Punch

Once its main counters (namely skamory and conkelderp) are out the way, this lizard cleans shop. Changed LO drain punch to Lum HJK as the additional power was there and prevented crippling by burns. Has great synergy with bronzong, who resists most of scrafty's weaknesses or at least takes neutral damage from them. The set is pretty standard, but i chose ice punch for the last slot in order to not get walled by gliscor or bulky variants of Dnite, whilst also helping keep momentum against the weather trio.

Heatran_Artwork.png

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roar
- Protect
- Flamethrower

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 244 HP / 44 SDef / 220 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Torment
- Substitute
- Protect
- Lava Plume

Switched from tormentran to standard S.def tran. My main counter for volcarona but my team is threatened greatly threatened. It performs its job as a special wall admirably, even against certain water types. Possibly considering changing wow and flamethrower back to lava plume to get more coverage but will test a bit more.

250px-579Reuniclus.png

Reuniclus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
407Roserade.png

Roserade (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sleep Powder

Roserade replacement. Added since I was relatively fighting and stall weak, its main job is to counter common fighting types and wall stall teams (such as sand, toxic and the rare hail team). I am tempted to try hidden power flying to try and cover the volcarona weakness of my team over FB, but since it is weak to bug buzz I am hesitant to do so. Since the roles of this and latias are considerably overlaping, I would be happy to replace latias, but the question is what with?

437Bronzong.png

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Atk / 80 Def / 92 SAtk
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earthquake
Arkeis-Metagross.png

Metagross @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Trick

Metagross replacement. Has identical resistances to gross and an added immunity to ground, so performs the walling job specacularly. With the ability to carry stealth rock, I don't need roserade as much (especially since i no longer use tormentran) and since i can hit certain things harder with zong (i.e most steel types) it is a better all round poke for that position. Albeit with this change I do lose some revenge killing power, it frees up another slot on my team.

143px-642Thundurus.png

Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

My counter lead against rain, sand teams and also spikers/support pokemon such as dual screens espeon. I wanted to keep thunderus's offensive abilities whilst being able to cripple such pokemon easily for a free turn of setup, which then allows him to sweep untill he hits a special wall or something faster than him that packs stone edge. Has great synergy with heatran by crippling pokemon that would status him and providing a free switch.

Exportable for testing:
Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Roar
- Recover

Scrafty (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Hi Jump Kick
- Crunch
- Ice Punch

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roar
- Protect
- Flamethrower

Reuniclus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Atk / 80 Def / 92 SAtk
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earthquake

Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

Thanks for reading! And i am open to any criticisms as i am not great at competetive battling =/ In fact, i would probbably prefer valid comments/criticisums over praise.

Why protect on Heatran? I suggest you to change protect with earth power for more coverage. If you use choise scarf on Metagross mainly for Trick it's ok but if you want your Meta really fast I think Rock polish or Agility are better choises.
For the rest this is a nice team except for one thing: three of your pkmns are weak to ice, so an hail team can be a problem.
good luck!

^ because when you torment, they cant use the same move twice in a row, so you can block them whenever they try to use their super effective move.

also, i know i make it out that i use scarfed metagross mainly for trick, but i more often use it as a revenge killer, as it is very effective.

Hey salomdi, i have a few suggestions that will hopefully make this team a lot better.

The first thing i noticed was the you were incredibly excadrill weak and if it sets up to +2 it can basically sweep your whole team. So to help your excadrill weakness I would suggest bronzong over metagross. Bronzong can set up stealth rocks as well, which your team lacks. It's also has the same typing as metagross so you can still bring it in on choiced dragon attacks. Bronzong also covers threats like SD gliscor who you are weak to if thundurus is gone, and dragonite who lack fire punch. Bronzong is probably the best gliscor counter since it can't really do anything to it since zong resists toxic, earthquake, and ice fang.I would use the standard tank set which is:

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Evs: 252HP / 84 Atk / 80 Def / 92 SpD
0 Speed IVs
Sassy Nature
Ability: Levitate
-Stealth Rock
-Gyro Ball
-Hidden Power Ice
-Earthquake

Now that your biggest weakness is covered, i want to change the heatran moveset from torment tran to the standard specially defensive heatran with max HP max SpD, will-o-wisp / roar / protect / flamethrower. I feel like torment tran is kind of randomly placed on your team and is just there because you couldn't think of a different set to put on it. Torment tran really needs team support to be used effectively.

I suggest running HJK+Lum Berry/ Leftovers on Scrafty. HJK does more damage than LO Drain Punch... like by a lot... Lum would protect Scrafty from status, while Lefties can occasionally save you if HJK ever misses.

As Lampost said, Bronzong>Metagross to alleviate the problems you will likely have against sand teams.

Your team also seems to have trouble breakng stall, and there's not really anyone who can take a physical fighting move (Latias, Roserade, and Thundurus are all pretty physically frail). I suggest trying a Reuniclus, who may perhaps be the best stallbreaker in the metagame, while simultaneously checking the plethora of fighting types.

Reuniclus @ Leftovers
Magic Guard
Bold
252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD
Calm Mind
Psychic
Focus Blast
Recover

Pretty much NWO took what I was going to say and made it better. Scrafty with HJK is much better than LO Drain Punch, despite the recovery from drain punch. It is nice to see someone use trick scarf metagross, although it is outclassed by others (Bronzong as the two before me have said). It seems like a fine team though.

thanks for the ideas! and i replaced roserade with reunclius. i only have one problem, and thats that i become super volcarona weak when heatran is down. anybody have any suggestions on how to combat this?

Well, thats one of the best things about team preview, if you see Volcorona, don't let Heatran go down until Volcorona has been removed. If Volcorona runs HP Ground, there could be problems. I suggest using a CB Dragonite, retaining your ability to check rain.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Multi Scale
Adamant
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 SpD
Outrage
Extremespeed
Fire Punch
Waterfall

Life Orb Starmie under the rain and Dragon Dance Scrafty look like potential problems for your team. Starmie running a set of Hydro Pump / Thunder / Ice Beam on a Rain team, can switch in after a kill, and proceed to OHKO-2HKO your team from there. Scrafty doesn't get a bunch of set-up opportunities, but it can take a hit or two from Bronzong to get in a Dragon Dance, and sweep your team clean from there.

Choice Scarf Rotom-W over Thundurus can take of Starmie and Scrafty, while providing you with a revenge killer to fall back on against numerous threats stat boosting threats, such as opposing Thundurus. Thundurus seemed like the weakest link, as unlike other members, it didn't really check any other threats, and Rotom-W provides the same resistances / immunities. Just like Thundurus, it also gives you the benefit against sand teams and rain teams, by dispatching of their weather starters, giving you the momentum from the start. The upcoming spread will give you enough bulk to take hits well enough from Rain teams and pose a threat against them. The Speed to outrun Starmie, Thundurus, and Scrafty, and numerous other threats. Starmie will be taken down by Thunderbolt, with Scrafty being crippled by Will-O-Wisp.

Lastly, change Will-O-Wisp to Toxic on Heatran. Toxic will help you beat Volcarona if it's the last Pokemon on the foe's team, where Roar will be useless. Lava Plume over Flamethrower is optional, so Heatran will still keep Physical switch-ins from switching in too comfortably thanks to the burn rate.
503.png

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf | Levitate
Modest | 108 HP / 252 SpA / 148 Spe
Volt Switch / Hydro Pump / Will-O-Wisp / Trick

Swap Psychic on reuniclus for Psyshock, that way if you get into a calm mind war with latias or jirachi you can KO and sweep the rest of their team. It can also get a nice surprise kill on blissey/chansey, Who could wall your whole team is scrafty goes down since he is your only physical attacker.

Also, if you get bored, you could change reuniclus and bronzong to trick room versions to add a bit of spice ;)

Hey, I wonder how you handle opposing Thundurus. not much can handle a +2 Thunder / Focus Blast / HP Ice and you pretty much rely on speedtieing with your own Thundurus. Latias can take a +2 HP Ice when high on health, but Dragon Pulse won't KO.
I can also imagine Life Orb Starmie (especially in rain) being troublesome. Rain boosted Hydro Pumps do a lot of damage, and Latias takes a lot from Ice Beam. Rain teams in general might be troublesome with Latis being your only Water resist.

First of all, I really recommend using Thunder Wave > Taunt on Thundurus along with Lum Berry > Leftovers. Priority Thunder Wave is really amazing, and can avoid you from getting swept simply by Thunder Waving the sweeper. You might miss the free turns to set up against stuff like Thunder Wave Ferrothorn without Taunt, so Lum Berry remedies that problem.

Second, I recommend using a Gastrodon over either Reuniclus or Latias. Their roles are kind of overlapping. Replacing Reuniclus is probably better, though if you want to keep Reuniclus, use Psyshock for opposing CM Reuniclus. Gastrodon is immune to Water-type moves and Electric-type moves, while being neutral to Ice-type moves. he is one of the best counters to Thundurus, taking nothing from Thunder and doesn't take much from its other attacks with its great special bulk. He also takes on most rain sweepers, being immune to Hydro Pump and Thunder and great special bulk. The exact set is:

120px-Paul_Gastrodon.png

Gastrodon @ Leftovers | Storm Drain
Calm | 252 HP / 16 SpA / 240 SpD
Scald / Ice Beam / Recover / Toxic

Good luck!

I really like the Team because every single Pokemon works well together.
The team is very solid but I don't like Bronzong that much when you can just use Ferrothorn. If you think so to here is a great set

598.gif

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Nature: Sassy
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252HP/8Def/248SpDef

-Leech Seed
-Stealth Rock
-Power Whip
-Gyro Ball

It would really help you out

Hi,

DD variants of Gyarados can be a nuisance to this team, especially since it has multiple places to switch in, on Heatran, Bronzong, and Reuniclus. Latias is also taken out by Bounce + Waterfall in rain, which is becoming an increasingly popular set. Stall is also a very hard play style for you to beat, since you lack immediate power. Something to consider is using a Specs Rotom-w with 252 SpAtk / 112 HP / 144 Spe and a Modest nature. A moveset of HP Ice | Thunderbolt | Trick | Hydro Pump will allow you to hit Gyarados, Jellicent, and Dragonite; as well as give you the chance to use Trick to cripple any key members of stall, such as Chansey or Skarmory. Heatran can use Toxic over Will-o-Wisp to beat Volcarona easier, and Latias should use Refresh over Roar since you don't have the hazards to support phazing from Latias.

Good luck!

When I first saw this team I was life wow! But there was something missing because if you think about it Latios can really take this team down if you let your guard down.
I suggest Ferrothorn or Gliscor to fix that problem.

Gliscor to fix a Latios problem? WHAAAAAAA?

Anyways, there's no Latios problem whatsoever. Heatran and Bronzong both win against it 1 on 1.
