Since when can U-Turn Flinch?

( And yes, I've posted on the "Simple Answer" already. )

Okay, here I am, on WiFi BT, and... my U-Turn flinches?! (not that it wasn't wanted). Here's the battle

I send out Ambipom @ Wide Lens.
Trainer sends out Charizard
Ambipom uses Fake Out!
Charizard Flinches!
Ambipom uses U-Turn!
Switches to Sharpedo @ Razor Fang.
Charizard Flinches!

So... is this because the Sharpedo had razor fang, or can U-Turn flinch on it's own? I've done the u-turn to Sharpedo a few more times, but nothing happened.

U-Turn can't flinch on it's own... I've used countless times and never had a flinch.
New bug discovered, maybe?

Looks like you made a small but new discovery. The game checks for King's Rock/Razor Fang flinching AFTER your turn ends. At the beginning of the foe's turn, it will check for one of those items on your Pokemon and try to apply the effect.

Good to know for Competitor. But yes, it was because of Sharpedo's presence that the Charizard flinched...

Niiiiiiice. I'll make sure I continue with that combo when I can. Do you think it checks for other items too?

It checks for choice items. If you're holding a choice item and you Somersault out to something else with a choice item that also knows Somersault, that's the only move you'll be able to use.

Note to self: Use U-turn with Pokémon that carry an item that checks before the attack (like Choice Band's attack boost) and switch to something that carries an item that checks after the attack (like Razor Fang).

I wonder if Shell Bell heals the incoming Pokémon?
