Hello RMT community! It's been a while since my last RMT (that was pretty close to Easy mode), so I'm back with something a little different, far from easy, and still pretty sweet to play. This time, I've done pretty much all the EV spreads myself, so take a look :3 Anyway, let's get into it!
Frozen (Meloetta) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs:112 HP / 180 SpA / 216 Spe 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
The first pkmn on the team was Meloatta. It's pretty underrated IMO, as it has a great defensive typing (two weaknesses only, Bug and Dark) and base 128 SpA is really big guys. Hyper Voice with STAB is a great spread move that will deal a lot of damage to anything not resisting it. Psyshock was chosen over Psychic mainly because Amoongus has more special bulk than physical bulk, Focus Blast was chosen to deal with Steel and Rock typed pkmns that would resist Hyper Voice, and HP Ice is just there for coverage. I've chose to go for Specs here because I really didn't want LO damage (Meloetta is still pretty frail), but I needed a boosting item to check the threats I wanted (and Expert Belt was clearly no option). 216 EV Spe is to outspeed Heracross, Modest 180 SpA was all I needed to:
So we've got some sort of glass canon there. We now need Rage Powder support to redirect those inevitable Sucker Punches that'll come in here way.
Mushroom (Parasect) @Focus Sash Sitrus Berry
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 220 HP / 188 Def / 100 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rage Powder
- Wide Guard
- Spore
-Leech Seed Cross Poison
As we all know, Fallow me/Rage Powder is awesome. But an easy way to play around it are spread moves. Well, Parasect can also learn Wide Guard! Predicting an EQ or a Heat Wave isn't usually much of an issue, so on each turn you can protect your other mon while it sets a sub or a SD up. Effect Spore is very good with Rage Powder (I'm sure Kan loves it), and Spore, you know, is Spore. It's just as slow as Amoongus, so it's very efficient under TR as Spore Spammer. The last move is pretty loose, I've tried Leech Seeds which works pretty nice, but that makes Parasact stupidly vulnerable to Taunt. I guess there are a few moves available, my favorite probably being Body Slam, because paralyzing your opponent is always something awesome. Aromatherapy or Synthesis can be sweet too, but I like Leech Seed for now. It"s really annoying thogh that Knock Off can't be played because of another move, as all the other moves are truly mandatory. The EV spread is meant to maximize the bulk, making it surprisingly satisfying.
EDIT: I've replaced the Focus Sash with a Sitrus Berry, and it works even better!
A very nice surprise right here.
I really wanted Intimidate support at this point, and at the same time, I wanted at least one physical attacker. So that lead me to Gyarados:
Tic-Tac (Gyarados) @Sitrus Berry Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs:88 HP / 84 Atk / 72 Def / 96 SpD / 168 Spe 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
-Substitute Protect
Sub Gyarados is pretty nice. Overall, it's pretty classic, it can set un a DD or two on its own (especially if protected by Parasect) and then deal big damage with a very decent Waterfall STAB (20% flinch can come in handy) and Ice Fang for coverage (and dissuade Togekiss and Amoongus from redirecting too much damage). The EV spread is pretty awesome. The HP Ev is a multiple of 16 +1 so that's means we can sub five times (without the berry) and the speed EV means that Gyarados will outspeed Breloom. The rest is meant to bulk up a few things and then the rest was put into power, hoping to get that +1 from DD at some point (without it it's pretty weak, offensively speaking).
Speed is going to be a problem. Right now, I have mons that are in the bad zone, ie too slow to race outside TR but too quick to play in TR (apart from Parasect of course). Hence a semi-TR setter, to set it up against speedy teams and set it down against TR teams. Cresselia was obviously my first choice, but as I would later include Gardevoir in the team, I figured that 3 Psychic pkmn in the team was too much. And so here comes Chandelure:
Light My Fire (Chandelure) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick Room
- Shadow Ball
- Heat Wave
- Protect
All right, here we go for another special powerhouse that can set TR up! Shadow Ball and Heat Wave are a great offensive coverage and base 145 SpA is one of the best in the Tier, so he's not just gonna sit there and look at the teammates work, and Protect is Protect. It is at this point in our story that we realize that this is the first mon in the team to actually have Protect! Yeah that's really awkward. But it turns out that Parasect has Wide Guard when he wants to protect, Meloetta has Specs and Gyarados has a sub. So somehow it all fits in. EVs are really simple here, max SpA, outspeed (and OHKO) Breloom and Bisharp, and then put the rest into HP.
Focus Sash to trap and OHKO Bisharp.
We are in great shape right now! But we lack offensive coverage though, especially towards Dark typed pkmn. So a powerful Fairy STAB seems nice, and who better thanbunny M-Gardevoir to do it?
OoOoOoOpera (Gardevoir) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Protect
165 Spa! It's 4th best in Doubles, outclassed only by M-Alakazam, M-Gengar and Deoxys-A, tied with M-Ampharos. That plus Pixilate and STAB, you can sweep anything with that monster! So basically what I did was Hyper Voice obv, Psychock for the same reasons as Meloetta, HP Ground to get rig of Poison/Steel/Fire pkmns that would resist Hyper Voice, and Protect because now it's mandatory on the team. The EV spread is really simple too, I guess I was tired of EVing around (yeah, there were a lot of fails on this team...) so I went for max SpA and big Spe to be tied with Adamant Kang (under TR, you get to strike before Jolly Kang). Nothing very intersting though, it's the set everyone knows, it tears your team apart.
We have a very capable team here, but we lack Ground coverage, as Gardevoir is probably going to be spamming HV all around, I didn't want to rely on her and deprive myself of what is probably the best offensive coverage in Doubles. I decided to go for Garchomp, as it can deal immense STAB EQ damage and very decent Rock Slide to shoot Char-Y, which btw we still didn't check so far.
Garchomp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 48 HP / 208 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Protect
This is (again) Kyle's set. I really wanted to play my own mega mix, but Gardevoir took the Mega spot on the team (at the begining it was Gyarados, then Garchomp, and then Gardevoir). It works pretty well of course, Lum berry and Parasect make sure he can set up a SD or two before wrecking it all. I changed Dragon Claw to Rock Slide, as the latter has a much better offensive coverage IMO. The point is to destroy anything that moves with EQ, but as most of the pkmns that are unaffected are Flying typed, well, Rock Slide is a great move to get rid of them. Plus, we already have a whole bunch of stuff to deal with other dragons.
So that's all six pkmn! I just want to go over the offensive synergies to prove that there's nothing wrong with the team:
OK so there are two problems XD Ok so we don't have anything to deal specifically with Fairies and Water. But that's OK though. The main fairies we worry about are Gardevoir (Psychic) Mawile (Steel) and Azumarill, and the main Water pkmns that are important are Keldeo (Fighting), Kingdra (Dragon), Ludicolo (Grass, but that's still a problem) and Politoed. Plus Azumarill. So all in all, we have to deal with Ludicolo, Azumarill and Politoed with non "super effective" moves. So what? Meloetta's HV, Chandelure's Sash+Shadow Ball, we gave very versatile tools to take care of those. I must admit I still haven't found a decent Rain team so far, but so far so good, at least on the mid ladder, which doesn't mean much of anything I guess.
So that's my team, hope you like it, and just to say bye bye, here's an awesome replay full of hax on both sides and where Parasect is like soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo the king.

So we've got some sort of glass canon there. We now need Rage Powder support to redirect those inevitable Sucker Punches that'll come in here way.
