Battle Spot Singles Mega Metagross Hydreigon Team

Hello all! I have been working on this team for a while and it seems to be doing great but I wanted other people's opinions on it too.

The Team:

Hydreigon
hydreigon-3.gif

Hydra (Hydreigon) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power

I chose hydreigon because it makes an amazing core with the other part of my core (Mega Metagross). He provides to the team as a special sweeper and as an earthquake immunity. He can OHKO a standard celesteela given a critical hit and can 2 hit kill it with standard hits and OHKO ferrothorn without a critical hit using fire blast. With earth power, it can take away toxapex given it is a physical set relying on the baneful bunker poison and other special defense weak pokemon. with Draco Meteor it can revenge kill some dragon types given it can out speed it. Dark pulse is there to take care of Psychic types that could cause threats to the team.

Mega Metagross
latest

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hammer Arm
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Earthquake

Mega Metagross finishes off this offensive core with hydreigon and is able to cover most of its weakness' with the move set I have ended up with. He is set up for a physical sweeper and given the right setup, can even sweep a team. I was having a big problem with Mega Kangaskhan because I had no reliable fighting type move to take it out, so I decided to put Hammer Arm on it to cover that problem and it has been working great. Meteor mash is its standard move and it works extremely well against fairies and other types weak to steel, it even gives Metagross the ability to sweep when it gets even one attack gain. Zen headbutt is on him for flinching and to be able to stop the fighting types that could threaten Hydreigon. I recently had to put earthquake on him to cover people weak to ground and so far it seems to have helped.

Porygon2
porygon2.gif

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 252 SpA / 12 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Beam
- Recover

I needed a bulky special sweeper and I knew I needed Porygon2 on this team. With its wide variety of moves and its eviolite bulk, it fits perfectly into the job. I went with the standard Bolt Beam move set but I edited the set by adding shadow ball. The reasoning behind it is because I lacked a good ghost move and I couldn't figure out who to have it on. Then I saw porygon2 could have it and I knew it would work wonders since porygon2 is normal and is immune to ghost types, which gives it the ability to strike them hard with a shadow ball. Thunderbolt and Ice beam provide the coverage that I lacked at this point in the building process and it does wonders! Recover is on there to make Porygon2 that nuisance that makes it a great asset to any team really.

Tapu Fini
latest

Tapu Fini @ Icium Z
Ability: Misty Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Haze
- Taunt
- Nature's Madness

Tapu Fini is one of my favorite pokemon this generation and it fits so well as a physical wall on this team. When I first started the team building process I knew that blaziken would be a major issue, but I really did not know a good physical wall that would work well with this team. Turns out Fini fit the bill. I went with a physical wall set so it can wall those pesky speed boost blazikens that are everywhere and a Z-Haze set (If you do not know what z-haze does, it it heals the user fully and resets stat changes). I have Scald on it to kill the blazikens after a Nature's Madness and to burn other physical sweepers. Haze and taunt are on there to stop setup sweepers and to either force them to switch out or to take a nature's madness and/or scald. Nature's Madness is to take care of bulkier pokemon that could accompany a blaziken and to get the blaziken down into scalding range.

Breloom
shiny_breloom_by_midnightsshinies-d9q6zsr.gif

Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Rock Tomb
- Spore
I knew going in to this that I needed someone that can stop setup sweepers and possible stalls. Now we already have Fini to stop setup sweepers, but Fini cannot do it to all of them, so I chose the spore master Breloom. I went with the standard sash spore set but I changed swords dance on it for rock tomb to control Dragon Dance sweepers and to heavily damage both mega charizards. I have bullet seed for the boosted damage and water coverage, Mach Punch to take care of weakened pokemon that will 100% be taken out by it, and spore to stop them from setting up their sweep.

Garchomp

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Poison Jab
- Rock Slide
For my last slot, I knew I needed a Tapu counter and a fast physical sweeper. After some thought, I decided to go with ScarfChomp. The only pokemon that I THINK can out speed a scarf chomp is a timid 252 speed tapu koko but even then, I don't even know if it could and even if it did, it would get walled in by Garchomps ground typing. I went with the standard Rough Skin 252 Atk and Speed and 4 into spD for the moon blasts and dazzling gleams. I went with earthquake because Garchomp is one of the best (In My Opinion) Earthquake abusers in the current meta and with the choice scarf, it allows it to revenge kill and possibly even go on a sweep. I chose outrage because I needed a very strong dragon attack and with garchomps physical attack and STAB typing, it would be crazy not to have it. I chose poison jab so that it can revenge kill pesky Tapu's that could possibly be a nuisance to the team. Finally, I have Rock Slide to kill fire types and both Mega Charizards.

Change log (No Particular Order of When the Change Occurred):

Ice punch>Earthquake on Metagross

Fire blast>Flamethrower on Hydreigon

Rock Tomb>Power Up Punch on Breloom

Choice Specs>Choice Scarf on Hydreigon

Choice Scarf>Rocky Helmet on Garchomp

Earthquake>Ice Punch on Metagross

Dark Pulse>Flash Cannon on Hydreigon

This concludes my team! Now, to show problems that I have been having:

Dragon claw>Outrage on Garchomp ?????
The only reason I ask is because of the 2-3 turn lock on him. Sure the base power is great but they can easily switch to a fairy and you just walled yourself. At least with Dragon Claw you can switch out if they try to predict an outrage

Blaziken seems to still be an issue Usually I make decent calls and can predict their move since the blaziken sets are pretty localized around 3 must have moves. But recently I seem to have been swept by a couple of them with off standard sets. I do not know if it was just bad calls or if something has changed and they now can go around Fini and sweep my team

Surf>Scald on Tapu Fini ?????
I have been having some problems with bulkier fire types that can get around fini and metagross' hammer arm and finish off sweeping my team. I do not know if replacing scald with surf on fini or if keeping it and changing a pokemon would be more beneficial.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Hi dude, i'll try to help a little starting from the sets:

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hammer Arm > Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash / Iron Head
- Zen Headbutt > Ice Punch / Hammer Arm
- Earthquake
The two steel STABs are mandatory imo, since the priority with its ability it's a given. Earthquake covers as much as Zen Headbutt, and goes even further so imo use this instead. Ice Punch also could be pretty crucial when it comes to hit dragons harder. Iron Head over MM if you don't want to miss. Hammer Arm if you want to hit those Kangaskhan, but imo it's not worth the slot.

Tapu Fini @ Icium Z
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs:252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald > Brine / Surf.
- Haze
- Taunt
- Nature's Madness / Moonblast
Scald won't burn in Mystic Terrain, whereas Brine does a lot of damage in combo with Nature's Madness. Surf it's another good option, but imo use Moonblast over Madness, with it.
With Taunt, having more speed could be worth it. 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 Spe with a Bold nature will make Fini able to always outspeed Celesteelas. It is not a must though.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download > Analytic
EVs: 244 HP / 252 SpA / 12 SpD > 244 HP / 188 Def / 78 SpD
Modest Nature > Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball > Foul Play
- Ice Beam
- Recover
p2 is a great tank and imo it will still work very fine without the SpA investments, while gaining a lot more bulk and switch-in power.
Also, p2 is very slow and you'll often receive the Analytic +30% damage boost. It is true that Download give it a little bit more power, but imo your attacks will hit with the boost more with this ability than with Download, not to mention that the meta has adapted to it, giving it even less opportunities to get +1 SpA.
Analytic Foul Play pretty much checks Mimikyu, that could threaten your Hydreigon/Metagross core. It does a lot to Aegislash too, and if underspeeding it it OHKOes.
The spread gives it as much physical bulk as possible, while also making it able to not being 2HKOed by Scarf Modest Tapu Lele.

This being said, i'd switch out Breloom for Zapdos or Thundurus. You'd still be able to hit those Water-types, while also gaining ground immunity for Metagross and Fighting-type resist for Hydreigon. You'd be also able to handle Mega Salamence and Garchomp better.
145.png
@ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost
With this spread it to outspeed Jolly Breloom, while having as much bulk as possible. That Thunder/Fire/Ice coverage allows it to hit with neutral damage almost everything, barring Rotom-H.

True and I was seeing a lot of sr and it was breaking brelooms sash rendering it useless in most of the matches I played with it. Also I was seeing a lot that Porygon2 almost never got a SpA+ from download and it was making him weaker than I wanted so anaylitic might make it even better. I went with surf instead of brine on fini and I kept Natures madness for the guarrenteed OHKO on blazekins because that I think could still sweep my team and it is also nice forcing those walls like ferrothorn and blissey to heal immediately because natures madness brings them to half hp. I'm going to try the spread for mega metagross you suggested because it would be nice to have priority on the team and Ill see if maybe i was just making wrong calls against mega kangashkans before and that's what was causing me to get swept by them so much.

Thanks for the suggestions!!!!!
