Battle Spot Singles Perish Team

I'm experimenting with a Perish Song Gengar Team, and I would love if it you guys could offer some input on what I could improve.

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate/Shadow Tag
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Perish Song
- Substitute
- Disable
- Protect

The main focus point of this team and also my lead 99% of the time. Protect lets Gengar safely mega-evolve, Substitute, Protect, and Disable allow him to stall for Perish SOng. I don't remember the exact number of EVs i put into HP/Def, but I know I have an odd hp number so i can do 4 substitutes. I can mega-evolve with Substitute if I am confident that my opponent is going to try and status me (burn/para/taunt, etc), if I'm not against a choice-scarfed pokemon, or if I'm not gonna get hit by a priority move (i.e, Talonflame BB)

Gengar's worst enemies here are opposing Ghost types, M-sableye, M-Metagross, Talonflame, Blaziken w/ Speed Boost, Scarfed Mold Breaker Excadrill, Prankster Taunt, U-turn/Volt-switch, and Whirlwind/Roar. I tried to fill out the rest of the team to counter these guys as best I could, but I still have a lot of problems with Scarf'd MB Excadrill. Taunt isn't the biggest problem, cause I can just switch out to someone that counters the Taunt, then switch back in

Klefki @ Eject Button
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Calm
EVS: 252 HP / 172 Def / 80 SpD
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Recycle
- Fairy Lock

Fairy Lock is a total experiment right now and I'm gonna get rid of it soon. The original idea was to use Klefki as a lead, set up a screen (and eat a t-wave or something), Fairy lock, eject button out to Gengar. I'm also currently experimenting with it to see if I can use it as a pseudo-trap move, but it's not working very well.

Anyways, max HP EVs is for bulkiness, 172 Def lets me get 2HKO from Talonflame Flare Blitz instead of 1HKO, and the rest of the EVs go into SpD. Screens let me set up gengar for another Perish Song without taking too much damage, and Recycle lets me switch in Gengar safely with Eject button. Yeah, I can do the same thing some slow U-turn/Volt Switch user, but I couldn't think of any that could also set up Screens with good bulkness (other than Rotom, but I need the Rotom for something else). This spot used to belong to Whimsicott, but I concluded that Taunt/Encore -> eject button -> Gengar Disable was too gimmicky and encore doesn't last long enough for that to work.

I've also found out that Eject Button stops U-turn and Volt Switch users from switching out, so now I have two ways of stopping pokemon from switching out: Gengar Protect/Disable, and Switch out, Eject button into Gengar, Protect. This also helps me Perish Trap pokemon that are faster than M-Gengar. I'm also considering replacing Substitute for Destiny Bond on M-Gengar for a guaranteed 2 for 1 with the eject button.

I've also tried using Wobuffett/M-Gengar, but I never got that to work more than once because I had a hard time switching Gengar back in.

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
Nature: Adamant
EVS: 252 Atk / 228 HP / 12 Def / 12 SpD
-Belly Drum
-Play Rough
-Aqua Jet
-Superpower

My plan B. I don't remember the exact EV spread for Azumarill either, but I have an even HP number so sitrus berry procs after Belly Drum. Klefki Eject button can bring Azumarill in safely and double screens let Azumarill do her thing. I am heavily considering using CB Azumarill in place of BD Azumarill, but CB Azumarill runs into problems with WoW, whereas the BD set can still get kills and do damage.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 80 SpA
-WoW
-Hydro Pump
-Discharge
-Volt Switch

Slow bulky Pivot that lets me switch in my other pokemon safely, and my #1 Talonflame counter. I siphoned away some Def into SpA so I have a higher chance of 1HKO and 2HKO against stuff like Hippowdon. Using both Rotom-W and Azumarill gives me a pretty nasty Grass-type weakness, but I just trap and kill them with M-gengar. This list includes Contrary Serperior, Ferrothorn, and M-venusaur. M-sceptile is not common, but I have a solution for that too. WoW and Discharge allows Rotom to spread as much status as he can for Azumarill/Gengar.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
Nature: Bold
EVS: 252 HP / 252 Def /4 SpD
- T-wave
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Foul Play

I was thinking about using Sableye in this slot, but I like Porygon2's bulkiness a little bit better than Sableye, especially before mega evolving. I also wanted to use Cressilia, but I didn't want my end game staller to share a weakness with Gengar (Cresslia and Porygon2 are both weak to knock off, but whatever). Anyways, T-wave lets Porygon2 move quicker, Ice-beam covers almost all of the dragons and Foul Play stops people from setting up SD and M-Kangaskhan Power-up punch. Recover is for stalling, as I'll typically suicide M-gengar for Perish Song if my opponent only has 1 pokemon left.

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
Nature: Modest
EVS: 252 HP /252 SpA / 4SpD (I think it's hacked cause I got it shiny with HA from wonder trading already EV trained and 6IVs...)
-Flamethrower
-Ice Beam
-Sludge Bomb
-Draco Meteor

Temporary spot and currently my weakest link. Goodra functions as a Special tank and coverage for anything that I can't kill with Azumarill. I was thinking about Multiscale Dragonite here, but I haven't tested it out yet, nor have I decided what kind of Dragonite I wanted to breed. I also have no idea what else I needed to check, so I just put one of my pokemon that could check almost everything.

As I'm writing this, I notice my losses keep coming from poor predictions and me not scouting out the 3rd pokemon/choice scarfed pokemon. I also lose some because I predict incorrectly with M-gengar, but those are inevitable. This team is definitely a work in progress, and I'd appreciate any sort of input that you guys can give me.

Perish trapping is no good without another pokemon with shadow tag so you absolutely need either gothitelle or wobbuffet. Although you tried using the latter, I think you should attempt using it again because perish trapper gengar and wobbuffet are a formidable duo and if used correctly, will absolutely destroy defensive and stall teams. If you're wondering which pokemon you should replace, it should be klefki. That klefki set is no good and should be immediately replaced.

Your team also lacks strong offensive presence (except for azumarill but BD is situational) so replace azumarill with mega kangaskhan. I know it is well prepared for and all but it is an absolute monster and has good bulk so it will be a great pokemon for your team. I recommend an all out attacker with max speed max attack, jolly nature and the moves double edge, sucker punch, earthquake and ice punch( for all the pokemon 4x weak to it).

Porygon2 looks great except a defensive porygon2 is better with the ability trace over download.

Make rotom-wash calm and invest fully in special defense and hp to make it specially defensive since you already have a physical wall. Give it a sitrus berry for extra bulk.

Now finally, you are gonna need another offensive mon to replace goodra as you already have two trappers, a physical wall, and a special wall. A pokemon that comes to mind is choice banded talonflame. Your team could struggle with fighting types and fast pokemon so talonflame seems like a good fit here. It has a strong priority brave bird, flare blitz for ferrothorn, mawile, aegislash, heracross etc, and can also pivot out with u-turn. The final move could be sleep talk since your team is a little bit weak to the status sleep.

Word of warning, if this team is still in the works then you should still use our Teambuilding Help thread. They don't really like things like "test team" or "I can't remember the exact EVs" being thrown around here...

I think you have the makings of an OK team here, but I think focusing it on perish trapping isn't the way to go. You've got the notorious Azumarill and Mega Gengar core going which is already crazy strong, so I think you should focus more on that. This may require a total rework of Gengar's build though, as dedicated perish trapping doesn't help Azumarill so much. Offensive Mega Gengar with Destiny Bond is the way to go here.

As a result, using Klefki to negate pivoters becomes redundant. Even if you were keeping the original idea of perish trapping, you could just replace Goodra with a Ground-type for Volt Switch, and make sure you can just threaten common U-turn users (like Garchomp with Fire Fang / Fire Blast). I've seen a few high ranking teams use the SwagPlay Klefki set which I believe you can use instead of using a totally new Pokemon in that slot.

Using Hidden Power Ice instead of Discharge or Volt Switch is never a bad idea on Rotom-W, so consider that!

Porygon2 probably wants to use Toxic over Thunder Wave, but they're both good and Thunder Wave can really cripple offensive mons which this team has some trouble with.

tl;dr
>use offensive MegaGar
>use SwagPlay Klefki
>consider HP Ice on Rotom
>consider Toxic over Thunder Wave on P2
>swap Goodra for Garchomp

I'm gonna try using wobbuffet again with this team and see how that goes again. The reason I was using the Klefki was because after I had successfully perish trapped the first pokemon with m-Gengar and Wobuffet, I was stuck using the Wobuffet and I had a difficult time dealing with set-up sweepers and pokemons with a combination of u-turn/volt switch with WoW (aka Rotom). I've looked up a lot of teams with the M-gengar/Wobbuffet duo, but a lot of these teams used a bulky pivot as the 3rd pokemon, and I'm not comfortable with the idea of putting all the offensive burden and the damage absorbing burden onto one pokemon.

Talonflame or Garchomp is replacing Goodra for sure though.

My bad, I'm gonna post in that thread next time instead of making a new one for myself.

I'm gonna try out swagplay klefki and switching out the M-Gengar for my offensive M-Gengar and see how that goes
