Ho-Oh's outstanding defensive typing, as well as access to Regenerator, allow Ho-Oh to become a defensive behemoth capable of constantly switching into threats like Magearna, Calm Mind Arceus formes, and Dragonite without using a single recovery move, burning them with Sacred Fire. Earthquake deals with Entei, Hisuian Arcanine, Raging Bolt, and Hearthflame Mask Great Tusk switching in to attempt to check Ho-Oh, while letting Ho-Oh still threaten non-Latiasite Magearna and Iron Crown if Sacred Fire runs out of PP. Brave Bird, however, is a more universal option for most Pokemon, as it deals a ton of damage to non-resists like Pinsirite Great Tusk and Arceus-Fairy, as well as deals with Fighting-types like Zamazenta and Urshifu-RS. Whirlwind allows Ho-Oh to shuffle through Pokemon, forcing them to take damage from potential entry hazards and deny sweeping attempts from the likes of Lunala, Arceus formes, and Spectrier. Imprison blocks Recover from Arceus forms and Pecharunt, preventing them from healing and potentially letting Ho-Oh beat them in a 1v1. Ho-Oh is a staple teammate on many balance and stall teams due to Regenerator and its amazing defensive profile. Its ability to wall Pokemon like Dragonite, Iron Crown, and Kingambit is appreciated by teammates like Garganacl and your own Dragonite, as they often get threatened by these Pokemon. Dragonite in particular checks both Raging Bolt and Urshifu-R, two Pokemon that are troublesome for Ho-Oh, while Garganacl can chip foes down alongside Burn thanks to Salt Cure and provides Stealth Rock support, allowing Ho-Oh to constantly force switches and chip down threats over time, especially if Ho-Oh is running Whirlwind. Other entry hazard setters like Magearna and Clodsire are also useful for this purpose. Ho-Oh crumbles to Rock-types like Garganacl and Iron Boulder, as well as potential Rock-type coverage and the combination of Knock Off + Stealth Rock from the likes of Entei and Great Tusk, so Pokemon that can deal with them, like Nasty Plot Pecharunt, Arceus-Ground, and Arceus-Water, make great teammates.
