SkarmBliss eat your heart out! OU RMT

Hello. This is my OU team, for Shoddy and the cartridge game. The team utilizes a combination not unlike SkarmBliss, except 100% worse: Empoleon and Gliscor.

dpmfa482.png

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- Taunt
- Explosion

Simple Azelf lead. Gets the job done. Starts with Taunt usually, then sets up Stealth Rock, pretty much guaranteed. Psychic hits hard with Azelf's 125 base SAtk and full EV's. After I'm dead and gone, Explosion takes out whatever gets in its way.

dpmfa395.png

Empoleon (M) @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 12 HP/12 Def/232 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Substitute

SubPetaya Empoleon with a twist. I mentioned previously that the Gliscor/Empoleon combo has few weaknesses? This takes advantage of that. Gliscor gets a Rock Polish or two, passes to Empoleon when he's threatened, Empoleon can survive the hit. Substitutes straight away. Has the speed to Roar away any potential phazers, and will go on a rampage once Torrent and Petaya Berry activate.

--
dpmfa472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP/196 SDef/60 Spd
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Rock Polish
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass

Hi Skarmory! This lad always forces switches from Empoleon, allowing for a SD. Passes Swords Dance/Rock Polish to Scizor, which is the typical plan, and Rock Polish to Empoleon. This guy is perfect because if he's unthreatened, he can Rock Polish, Swords Dance (maybe twice) and pass to Scizor. If he is threatened, he can Rock Polish and pass to Empoleon, as Empoleon covers his weaknesses.
--
dpmfa212.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 244 HP/252 Atk/12 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Brick Break
- Pursuit

This guy here has one purpose - killing things. And he does it brilliantly. Designed to deal massive damage, and not much else. He can OHKO lots of things, and Pursuit is always handy. Fire moves are redirected to Lanturn, and Ground moves are sent to Gliscor, where I can hopefully get another SD :-) Most games I play, Gliscor comes in a wall, gets 2/3 SD's.

Wow, I didn't have to change the description much :-) I replaced Superpower with Brick Break. The base power difference isn't a big deal considering he's got a SD or two, and it's nice to not lose stats.

--
171.png

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP/136 SAtk/252 SDef/80 Spd
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

So, Empoleon has a few weaknesses, OK. BoltBeam crushes my SkarmBliss. Meet the best BoltBeam counter in the game. This guy, with his excellent typing and fantastic ability Volt Absorb, will stop that pesky Jolteon in its tracks.
--
499.png

Rotom-h @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/252 Speed/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Trick

Revenge killing Rotom. Overheat gets a handy OHKO on Steels like Lucario and Scizor. Thunderbolt gets rid of Gyarados, and Shadow Ball is nice for coverage. Trick is brilliant for screwing up a wall.

This team aims to be a bit balanced. I'm used to running Offensive teams, as playing defensive simply bores the crap out of me. I compromised a bit with this team, which is awesome, because I can play offensively and still take hits. So far I've had mostly success, which is good. One Pokemon that I've had a bit of a weakness to is Heatran for some reason, but that's probably poor management on my part.

Every set here was stolen from the respective Smogon analysis. I'm not really experienced enough yet to come up with my own EV spreads. I tried to come up with my own movesets, then had a look at the sets provided and kinda went "...yeah, that'd work better". Once again, any team building tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello. This is my OU team, for Shoddy and the cartridge game. The team utilizes a combination not unlike SkarmBliss, except 100% worse: Empoleon and Gliscor.

dpmfa407.png

Roserade (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Toxic Spikes
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]

I love Roserade as a lead. Outclassed by some other leads. Fake Out crushes him. If I suspect a Fake Out, I switch straight to Rotom-S. I start with Sleep Powder, and force a switch, typically. I then get Toxic Spikes up, hopefully twice. If I get the chance, Grass Knot and HP Fire do some nice damage.

--
leaf storm over grass knot.it still gets the OHKO on T-tar and Swampert.
dpmfa395.png

Empoleon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/160 Def/4 Spd/92 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Surf
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Roar

Defensive Empoleon. This penguin has 12 resistances. He's bulky, and can deal some nice damage. Everything that he is weak to is predictable, and allows for a switch to Gliscor/Rotom-S. 3 attacks for coverage, and Roar for pseudo-hazing purposes.

--
good set.
dpmfa472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/40 Def/216 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge

Hi Skarmory! This lad always forces switches from Empoleon, allowing for Stealth Rock to go down. Pretty simple, really. Earthquake and Stone Edge do some pretty decent damage, Roost for recovery.

--
you can consider passing speed and attack boosts to Cross, since its bulky enough to do.Good set, though.
dpmfa214.png

Heracross (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

This guy here has one purpose - killing things. And he does it brilliantly. Designed to deal massive damage, and not much else. He can OHKO lots of things, and Pursuit is always handy. Fire moves aimed at him generally get redirected to my lovable Gyarados.
---
good set again.
--
dpmfa130.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

It amazes me how stupid people are when it comes to DD. After he's had a few, he just blows things to pieces. I needed a sleep absorber, and I don't think any Pokemon does it better than Gyarados. He can take a few hits, that's for sure, and can dish out a lot of damage. Of course, Electric moves hurt, so I generally switch to Gliscor or Rotom-S.

--
why dont you use the normal attacking DD-dos with Waterfall,Ice Fang,Stone Edge/Earthquake with DD?Though the set looks fine.
502.png

Rotom-s @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/216 Spd/40 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Confuse Ray
- Air Slash
- Shadow Ball

The annoyer. And golly, he does it so, so well. TWave goes up first, then Confuse Ray, then Air Slash (or Shadow Ball if the opponent is weak against Shadow, or resists Flying). This guy works great when there's 2 layers of Toxic Spikes. Who says he's the weakest appliance? I love him, frustration is a gift :-)
---
Will-o-Wisp works better than confusion against physical attackers, such as Tyranitar and DD-dos.keep other moves.

Well, that's my team. I'm not very experienced really, so I'm willing to take all the feedback I can get. Any team-building tips you have are always appreciated. I used Marriland Team Builder to make sure I had no massive weaknesses...this team had a Bronzong over Gyarados until I realised that a sleep absorber would be nice, and that Fire destroyed my team.

quite a good team overall,i like it.good luck!

It's unfortunate that your 'skarmbliss' is beaten handedly by the ever common BoltBeam. Life Orb Jolt says hi. Only Hera can think about doing anything, and it's 2HKO'd by Thunderbolt, so it can't exactly switch in.

For that I would consider a defense not weak to Electricity, either by way of being neutral with high SpD, Volt Absorb itself (Jolteon and Lanturn), or Trace (Gardevoir, Porygon2).

BoltBeam isn't that common any more. I've never seen a non-Specs Jolteon. But you're right, BoltBeam hurts.

If I predict a boltbeam user, I'd switch to Rotom-S, I suppose. For a better defense, perhaps I should replace Gyarados with a bulky Swampert and run a resttalk Rotom?

I can only see removing Empleon as an option. Replace it with a more dedicated Special Wall, that isn't weak to Electricty. Perhaps Regice. (Works in a similar vain as Empoleon, just with less resistences. They still cover each other's weaknesses though)

This is a good team but there are a few things I would like to change.

Well first I would give Gyarados Roar over Dragon Dance so you can spread around your spikes poison. Then I would make your Rotom a resttalker since you don't have any wish support. I would try the SubPetaya Empoleon over your current and finally CB Scizor over Heracross because of the ability to safely counter CM Latias.

Over DD on a rest+talking set? Please use your common sense when rating peoples team. Ok the Jolt weakness just get a tyranitar or something that has big sp def and can fit into your team and yes ttar does have big sp def after the 1.5 sand boost.

I have a basic question: after Gyarados is badly weakened and Rotom is dented, what will you do against MixApe? CC & HP Ice runs through your 'wonderfull' combination, while Fire Blast rips through Hera and Roserade... it does more than half to Rotom too...
So i suggest having a revenge killer: ScarfCross can fill the job perfectly.
As a side note: Why not have a nice Rotom-H in place of your orange fan? Overheat gives you some nice coverage and a much needed fire attack (besides Roserade's, who will die quickly...), and another thing: through your team's common flaws, you really need Thunderbolt/Overheat (if you do opt for the oven) to take down skarmory, who will wall most of your team after Roserade is down.
Hope all this helps you out ;)

He already has roar on empoleon anyway.

The Standard MixPert would also really hurt your "skarmbliss". Sure roserade can help if it doesn't switch on ice beam, but if thats gone then your defense isn't going to do much. And actually I agree with replacing Empoleon for Tyranitar. It gets a good SpD boost and it works well with Gliscor.

I'm a little iffy on the Gyara. Sure it could work if someone is dumb enough to let you get 2 or 3 DD's off, but thats not going to happen alot.
I'd say just go with stone edge over DD so you can absorb status and still do some damage without having to set up. If you choose to do that, run 156 HP / 108 Atk / 100 Def / 144 Spe. Not as defensive, but it can still take hits and do some damage.

How am I not using my common sense?

He has residual damage all over the place here and suggesting he spread it around is me not using my common sense? How about you use your common sense. This team sets up a perfect playing field for SubPetaya Empoleon.

I strongly suggest replacing Rotom-S with a Rotom-A that will actually do something besides "annoy". Rotom-H with a Choice Scarf is a badass, stopping most set-up threats in the game (besides Salamence, unfortunately).

Also, Heracross is not that good, as evidenced from his fall from the top 50 OU Pokemon this month. I suggest replacing him with something that can check DD Salamence, like CB or LO Mamoswine.

OK, Gliscor now Baton Passes Swords Dances to my CB Scizor.

Back to Empoleon's weaknesses. I'm thinking Lanturn over Gyarados, and resttalk on my Rotom. Lanturn has Volt Absorb, and stops the aforementioned Timid Life Orb Jolteon right in it's tracks.

Just been playing with the updated team, and wow. It works fantastically! Scarf Rotom isn't really working too well (although Trick is awesome), so I'm going to run RestTalk and run a Lantern over Gyarados.

hey! this team isn't bad, not at all. but as with all teams, it can use some improvements. i want to first start with roserade. she's great in a metagame like suspect, with all the grounded things like garchomp flying around, but not so much in ou. latias, scizor, salamence, gyarados, and heatran are all immune to toxic spikes. the latter four are the 4 most used pokemon. there are two things you can do with her. the first option is to slap a scarf on her. this will let her beat infernape, azelf, and many other common speedy leads, or priority, or fake outers. the second option is to replace her entirely. if you decide to replace her, move gliscor to the lead position and change his evs a little bit. 216 spe/252 def/40 hp is what i suggest. i also suggest a change in moves to taunt (u turn)/stealth rock/ earthquake/roost. you can use u turn over taunt because your team doesnt really mind sr that much, bar gyara who is a restalk version.

ok if you do decide to move up gliscor you have a free spot. looking at your team, sdape can trouble you, as can scarftran and mixmence. you can either use a very bulky water, or a cresselia. imo a cress fits nicely here. if anything wants to pursuit you, heracross gets a free switch and can fire off a megahorn or cc. calm 252 hp/200 def/56 spd should suffice. moonlight/ice beam/thunder wave/reflect is a good choice of moves. reflect + higher natural speed than scizor means you take ~35% from a cb u turn. you can use protect over reflect or t wave. it can help scout a choiced pokemon's move, very helpful when facing cb tar or cb scizor.

next, your gyarados is looking for roar. shuffling around stuff is invaluable. it not only racks up sr damage, but scouts the opponents team. that set is really a tank, not a stalk sweeper. even if he gets in one dd, his attack is still a piddly 421. that may look big, but all he has to attack is an 80 bp stab move. roar is the overall better choice on a restalk walling gyarados. stone edge is also a poor option due to the fact that you are most likely using it at -1 attack, which is still weak.

im going to have to agree on changing rotom 2 a rotom-h and scarfing it. a lot of things can flat out overpower your team with no way to stop them. infernape, jolteon, and many others can give you a hard time. scarftom gives you the option to revenge kill them instead of getting straight up swept. modest 252 spa/252 spe/4 hp. gets the overall power, and rotom is pretty bulky naturally trick/shadoball/thunderbolt/
[overheat/willowisp].
trick, thunderbolt, and shadow ball are for possibly screwing things that dont care about speed and stab, respectively. overheat gets the quick ohko on lucario, metagross, and scizor, but pretty much screams to be set up on. wow can work after you trick (or even before).

overall, nice team. i hope i helped.

this will let her beat infernape, azelf, and many other common speedy leads, or priority, or fake outers

Latias stops Infernape and Azelf leads cold, they can't do jack other than set up rocks and then Azelf explodes. Choice Scarf isn't going to help it outspeed a Fake Out... >_>

OK, changed the team around. Roserade isn't a fantastic lead in OU, and yes, there are lots of common Pokemon immune to Toxic Spikes. Any suggestions for a better lead?

Your team can use any one of the common leads:
Heatran works well with the team synergy (by types...) and can be usefull later in the game. Azelf and Metagross are no-brainers, but I think Heatran will be really helpfull to your team - giving you a fire attack and taking care of troublesome pokemon to your team (if you save it for later). It depends on how you want to start the match really...

PS: Your team is still a bit MixApe weak...

Edit: You can use WoW over HP on Rotom-H, it does wonders against phisical threats that attempt to come in on the switch (e.g. Tyranitar, Snorlax, Lucario, ect...) and is an all around usefull move, making Rotom-H some phisical wall (making it a duo with Gliscor, countering Gyarados while Gliscor counters Tyranitar and more).

Azelf and Metagross are pretty good leads. But maybe ScarfJirachi or Azelf with psychic could be useful to help with your mixape weakness(by revenge killing it though... but Roserade can't even revenge kill him)

Heatran lead now. Seems to work well.

Now that that's out of the way, I think that Empoleon has been outdone by Lanturn. Lanturn is a superior special tank with a fantastic ability, and still goes great with Gliscor.

One thing that I'm missing is a good revenge killer. I'm thinking of replacing Empoleon with a Scarfed revenge killer that can counter MixApe. I dunno...move Heatran to that position? A scarf Heatran outspeeds an Infernape for sure, and I presume that Earth Power gets a OHKO. If this is my best option, then a Mamoswine lead might be fun.

Still, replacing Empoleon means that I'm missing a phazer. And a phazer comes in handy.

Can someone give me some advice? Another physical sweeper to Baton Pass things to is always nice.

You could use Swampert as a lead and then still have ScarfTran as that makes a good lead and also has Roar, this is the set:

Swampert@Leftovers
Relaxed nature
Torrent
EVs-240HP/216Def/52SAtk
-Stealth Rock
-Roar
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
Roar means you've got a phaser, its pretty reliable at getting SRs up and Earthquake and Ice Beam give good coverage while dealing with many common leads.

If you need a Phazer, I think I have an idea:

Skarmory @ Leftovers/Shed Shell
Nature: Impish
EV's: 252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
~ Brave Bird
~ Roost
~ Spikes / Stealth Rock
~ Whirlwind

Standard Skarmory > Gliscor. Skarmory has perfect coverage with Lanturn:

Fire/Electric attacks ---> Lanturn
Ground/Grass attacks ---> Skarmory

Perfect coverage =)
With this, you have a phazer and a spiker. I know this'll mean you have no sweeping route, but this team is starting to look like average stall, so that can work too. You can always turn Scizor into a standard SD variant, but hey, it's your choice.
Speaking of choices:
You could use Swampert as a lead and then still have ScarfTran as that makes a good lead and also has Roar, this is the set:
Swampert@Leftovers
Relaxed nature
Torrent
EVs-240HP/216Def/52SAtk
-Stealth Rock
-Roar
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
Roar means you've got a phaser, its pretty reliable at getting SRs up and Earthquake and Ice Beam give good coverage while dealing with many common leads.
If you go with that suggestion, I suggest putting ScarfTran over Scizor, since CB Bullet Punch fills a similar role as ScarfTran (revenge killing), and Gliscor can still fill in the part of 'phisical threat' instead.

Latias stops Infernape and Azelf leads cold, they can't do jack other than set up rocks and then Azelf explodes. Choice Scarf isn't going to help it outspeed a Fake Out... >_>

err...the point is that he can take a fake out, and then outspeed and sleep the infernape before it sets up rocks, kos you, etc. azelf can taunt you, set up sr, then break your sash, thus leaving you at -2 and taunted. with a scarf, he can simply outspeed and sleep. please read my post more thoroughly before commenting. and he doesn't even have a latias...?

OK. I don't want to get rid of Gliscor, that's for sure. Baton Passing in this team works great.

Azelf seems to be working better than Heatran as a lead.

I had a bit of a go without Empoleon and it didn't work out too well, I still need the defense there. I'm changing Empoleon's set to SubPetaya, because if he gets passed a Rock Polish, there isn't a whole lot that can stop his sweep.

Sleep Talking Rotom seems to be a waste of a team member when Lanturn can run Rest Talk as well. So, I'm changing Rotom-h to a Scarf version, as recommended, I'll see how it goes.

What is the point of Roar on a subpeteya empoleon? Even with a rock polish passed to it, Roar will always go last because of it's -7 priority, not like you'll find the time to use it when you're busy killing stuff with boosted surfs. I highly recommend you give it Grass Knot instead, that way you'll gain unparalleled type coverage leaving you walled by virtually nothing except Blissey if you can get it set up.
