I'm new to this whole 5th gen thing. I've only done a couple battles with some weird Sunny Day team I made when people first started battling, but I decided to let the meta game settle out some before I got really started. I don't really know all the threats yet, so I'm sorry if there's a really obvious Pokemon that can demolish my team. :V I also apologize ahead of time if this team is really lackluster and uninteresting.

My basic summary of this team is that it is an annoying offensive team. It's meant to cripple you with Stealth Rocks and status effects while still being able to do damage and switch quite often. In the end, Metagross will keel uuuuuuu!

Team building went likes this:

055.gif

I wanted to use Golduck to counteract weather teams. I was going to use a set with Mild, max Atk and SpA, Focus Sash, and Aqua Jet along with special attacks.

I decided I wanted to use Slowbro because I heard Regeneration was awesome and Slowbro is friggin adorable. I looked around for someone who resisted his weaknesses and found Ferrothorn (resists all but bug).

After that I picked Darmanitan because I saw his attack stat and I was like "Must have." Then I picked Rotom-W because everyone is using him, so I have to fit in with the cool kids (and I also needed someone who could take an earthqauke ;) ).

For my late game sweeper I chose Metagross because I like him. I'm not too crazy about Excadrill and Scizor, they seem kind of cheap to me. XD Besides, Metagross is cooler.

In the end, I decided that I need someone who could hamper stall teams some, so I decided to switch Golduck out for Tauntdos to help against stall teams and stop the initial spread of my opponent's stealth rocks. I still think offensive Golduck is cool, but I like having leads that are more than glass cannons. XD

I was going to Try Latios in place of Rotom-W, but I decided he left me too open to dark and ghost attacks. Instead, I decided to use Hydreigon to check threats like Celebi and Deoxys.

I found Darmanitan to be pretty useless. He'd just come in on rocks and then get off one flare blitz and die. I also noticed my team had a Electric problem, so I decided to use Swampert as my physical attacker.

I also agree about Gyarados needing special defense. He can't take crap without it.

Anywho. My only other main issue is that spikes and such things are annoying. So I decided to replace Metagross with Hitmontop. I found that Metagross doesn't really sweep well, and I'm hoping Swampert will have enough coverage to make up for the loss of a set-up sweeper. Hitmontop brings in a nice Fighting STAB and Rapid Spin to make up for this, however.

I decided that the team had too many flaws, so I added Landorus in place of Swampert, Latios in place of Hydreigon, and Jirachi to replace Ferrothorn.

After this I noticed set-up sweepers, Volcarona in general, and Scizor could cause problems for my team. So I decided to add in Salamence with Dragon Tail.

My Anti-Lead/Stall crippler. His intimidate hurts leads like Mienshao and Infernape who use physical attacks. Taunt is there to stop slow pokemon from setting up Stealth Rocks. I use Thunder Wave on offensive scarf leads to make them cry about their wasted choice scarf. Waterfall and Earthquake are there to do damage. Hi yah!

Thanks for reading! If I left something out then I apologize in advance!

Someone told me on another site that Jirachi, Celebi, and Deoxys could cause problems for this team. Any solutions? I want to keep Slowbro, but I'll change anyone else.

Quick thing on Gyarados. Since it has intimidate, you should invest in its Special defense instead. Intimidate lowers the opponents physical attack, so they will be dealing less physical damage already.

On Slowbro, flamethrower can be Fire Blast to better deal with opposing Ferrothorn. And I'm thinking Scald will be better than surf, as the extra 15 base power is not vital for a wall and the burn support can help your teammates.

The idea of an intimidate pokemon is to take physical hits, and act as a makeshift physical wall. Taking away defensive bulkyness is exactly what you don't want to do.

That being said, so are very specially weak on this team, but oddly very physically bulky. You have the option to either be cheap, and use a Blissey/Chansey, or use Tyranitar which can easily kill off Latias and Latios, and the many other special attackers that are psychics/ghosts. I am not sure what place would be best switched for it though, either Darmanitan or Metagross. In either case, Blissey/Chansey or Tyranitar, would fit well into your team.

Ferrothorn's set is just off. Spikes might be better then stealth rocks, but thats a personal choice. Also its usually best if you run either gyro ball or power whip, not both, as it allows you to use other support options like thunderwave and protect. But this set is still ok.

Also rotom-w usually likes the extra power from choice specs, more then the speed from scarf. Conversely, choice scarf might be better on Darmanitan, to abuse that high attack.

Just my 2 cents though, overall your team is ok.

Perhaps you could change Scarf-Rotom for Scarf-Hydreigon or Scarf-Latios. Latios will be able to Trick a Choice Scarf onto Special Walls, but Hydreigon has STAB Dark Pulse to be able to hit Celebi/Deoxys-S, U-Turn and a helpful Pursuit resistance.

Perhaps something like this:
Latios @ Choice Scarf
Modest Nature (this can be changed to Timid if you wish)
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Levitate
- Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Hidden Power [Fire] can get rid of Ferrothorn if you have already Tricked your Choice Scarf away, but then you lose 1 Speed point so your outsped by other 110-Scarfers with the same nature. Of course, your own Ferrothorn could take the incoming Dragon/Ice attack anyway and set up Stealth Rock.

Okay; so if I switch Rotom-W to Hydreigon and give Darmanitan a scarf, how would that be? The reason why I was running double attacks on Ferrothorn was because Slowbro and Gyarados already give status support. Perhaps I should use stealth rock and spikes? Also, I absolutely refuse to use Chansey/Blissey because they are ridiculously cheap IMO.

What move set would you recommend for Hydreigon?

Intimidate can be taken both ways. Not needing to invest in Defense makes the Pokemon overall more defensive by allowing EVs to be distributed more. In this case, the physical special core is already established in Slowbro and Ferrothorn, so a generally defensive Pokemon isuseful. Smogon has a defensive EV calculator that accounts for Intimidate, should youwish to make Gyarados be able to take hits from both sides.

Willing to abuse on U-Turn and Rapid Spin, plus several scarfed pokemons, wouldn't be helpful to have a rapidspinner?

Willing to abuse on U-Turn and Rapid Spin, plus several scarfed pokemons, wouldn't be helpful to have a rapidspinner?

What would be a good choice and who would it replace?

Also, how about using the Life Orb set Hydreigon:

name: Life Orb
move 1: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Taunt
move 4: U-turn / Surf
item: Life Orb
nature: Modest
ability: Levitate
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

as my lead and then replacing Rotom with someone else? Possibly a rapid spinner. The only problem with that is not having Dark Pulse to check Deoxys.

I looked at how Latios would affect my team's type weakness, and I saw that I would be really weak to Ghost and Dark moves; so I'm going to use Hydreigon.

Draco Meteor
Dark Pulse
Surf
Fire Blast

^ Is that a good move set for him?

What would be a good choice and who would it replace?

I believe that i'm too new to this for a hint, but perhaps exchanging Slowbro for Dolphan which would keep your physical wall and give you a rapid spinner. You can cover the water weakness with Ferrothorn any time. Bonus would be a STAB Earthquake. I'm no good with movesets, so i'll let it for your knowledge :)

Well, since I'm probably not going to have another switch, Rapid Spin isn't that necessary. I'm curious as to whether Gyarados can check Excadrill, as I've noticed Excadrill could probably murder my team for the most part.

Where's your Latios description? you need to expand your Metagross one slightly as well.

Okay, some changes.

I found Darmanitan to be pretty useless. He'd just come in on rocks and then get off one flare blitz and die. I also noticed my team had a Electric problem, so I decided to use Swampert as my physical attacker.

So yeah, I made a lot of changes. Are there any super counters to this team now?

I like Your Gyarados! You say you’re having problems with it taking Sp Hits, and that’s okay Gyarados really isn’t meant to take Sp Atks. If they lead with a Sp Atker then just switch him out because Gyarados will just end up dying, where you would rather have him comeback in later and wreck shit.
On your Slowbro, first thing I noticed is that you have 2 Pokémon that are really weak to Electric Sp Atks, Thundurus could pose a problem here, so u might wana add some more Sp bulk to your team because Swampert is truly your only switch into him, and he’s another physically bulk poke so if he gets taken out you screwed in that department. Personally I find yawn to slow and not very effective, but that’s just my opinion. I would recommend a Toxic stall With Slack Off. I’ve used it before and it works quite well.

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
-Scold
-Fire Blast
-Toxic
-Slack Off

Ferrothorn isn’t really needed because you have a physical wall Slowbro and Gyarados, But I guess he’s useful for setting up SR, just take out gyro ball and put Protect, it helps scout and can rack up Leach Seed + Leftovers recovery.

Swampert is a bad physical sweeper, he’s slow but bulky. His best option is to be a Bulky SR lead witch you don’t need. I would find a Better Physical attacker that’s Faster like Infernape, Scrafty, Terrakon, Or any Pokémon that’s fast and has physical Atk.

Hydreigon is honestly garbage. He gets out Sped by every other fricken dragon. Use Latios over him, Latios is a great sweeper this gen and an awesome revenge killer.

Latios (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]

This set gives great coverage and can sweep like a boss. Just make sure after using Draco Meteor you switch out so you don’t sit there with minus 1 or 2 Sp Atk (I can’t remember which lol)

And Hitmontop looks fine and is a great spinner. I recommend you run Mach Punch in there somewhere in his move pool to get STAB priority cause that can act as a revenge killer as well.

Those are all my changes, it’s a pretty decent team, very bulky!
-Hirschy Out

I was thinking about replacing Ferrothorn anyways. He doesn't really do a lot for the team.

Would Landorus be a good replacement for Swampert? He could still switch in on electric attacks, but would have the speed to do something.

I guess I'll try the Latios set.

Who is a good special wall to replace Ferro with?

Okay, I've made a LOT of changes to this team. After I got rid of Ferrothorn, Swampert, and Hydreigon for Jirachi, Landorus, and Latios, I played some. I was loving the results, except for set-up sweepers and Volcarona. Holy crap Volcarona pwned my team. So I decided to use a Specially defensive Salamence. He can come in on threats like:
534.gif
212.gif
637.gif

resist their STABs, and then proceed to Dragon Tail them out. He then roosts off the damage. I know it seems strange to run a defensive Salamence, but it worked so well last gen that I had to try it for this gen.

Also, I know stealth rocks is a problem with three flyers. Two things fight against this, however:

- Gyarados as a lead. A lot of stall teams rely on their lead to get off Stealth rocks. Gyarados is a perfect lead because he can stop the initial Stealth Rocker (And then make a lol switch to Jirachi if they explode).

- Jirachi. Both Gyarados and Salemence resist fire attacks, so if I predict a Fire Blaster to switch in I can Wish, let G or S take the hit, and then be back up pretty much at full health.

Also, a little side note: You guys were absolutely right about Latios, he friggin rapes. He's actually so powerful that I use Dragon Pulse instead of Draco Meteor. It actually works pretty well.

Thanks for the help so far guys! I'll add descriptions in a bit. I want to see if there are any necessary changes before I do.
