For quite a while now, I've been wanting to make a team around Mega Medicham, and with Aegislash out of the way, I decided that now would be the best time. I've been playtesting the team, and with it, I've been able to climb from about 1500 elo to 1704, #485 in the OU ladder. This is my first RMT, the only team I've built so far that I feel is worth making an RMT for, and the team I want to improve further.
PsyKick (Medicham-Mega) (M) @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Psycho Cut
- Ice Punch
- Fake Out
Mega Medicham is my main man. An excellent wallbreaker with one of the highest attack stats in the game and good coverage, his main job is to get in safely and wreck whatever is in front of him. Psycho Cut is a solid secondary stab, useful for hitting guys who can stomach a High Jump Kick, particularly Mega Venusaur, who would otherwise be a major problem. Ice Punch rounds out the coverage by allowing me to get past Landorus-T and Gliscor, and providing a more reliable way to deal with dragons like Garchomp and Dragonite. The ability to safely Mega Evolve and move up from 80 to 100 speed alone makes Fake Out a good option, and the surprisingly high chip damage and the +3 priority seals the deal.
Hobbes (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 44 HP / 252 Atk / 212 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- U-turn
The first thing that Mega Medicham needs to succeed is a safe way to switch in, in this case, a fast U-Turn, forming the physical half of VoltTurn with Rotom-W. The speed and nature is enough to outspeed Mega Manectric and anything unscarfed below that, the attack is maxed, and the rest was put into health. Landorus-T has all the tools it needs to use Choice Scarf effectively. Multiple immunities and resistances my team needs, decent enough speed, a devastatingly high attack stat, decent bulk, no weakness to Stealth Rock, Intimidate, and not one but two "safe" moves in Knock Off and U-Turn. He's a pretty good check to Lati@s and also helps dampen a lot of physical attackers with Intimidate. He and Mega Medicham make a nice cleanup crew, and is a great recipient of Sylveon's Wish.
WishyWashy (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 214 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
Rotom-W forms the special half of the VoltTurn core. The standard physically defensive set makes a great pivot, and provides more useful resistances, and like Landorus-T, is immune to ground and discourages Thunder Wave. He's usually the safest option to lead with in battle, and checks and cripples many pokemon, such as Talonflame, Scizor, Tyranitar, Bisharp, Azumarill, and Landorus-T. When in doubt, Will-O-Wisp. His Volt Switch isn't the fastest either, guaranteeing a safe switch against faster pokemon. He's also a great recipient of Sylveon's Wish.
Nightmare (Gengar) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Pain Split
- Substitute
With Fairies introduced and the nerf to steel types, Ghost is now the best neutral attacking type. Gengar is excellent at mopping up the opponent sinking ship of a team after Mega Medicham has passed through, or punching a few holes of his own allowing Mega Medicham to crush the weakened opponent. He's my strongest special attacker and is yet another discouragement to ground type moves. He gives me an immunity to fighting, and other resistances I need such as ones to grass and bug types. Substitute lets me punish my opponents mispredictions, or create a no win situation against pokemon such as Mega Venusaur who are unable to break through the substitute in one attack. Pain Split is a fun trick that turns the health loss of Life Orb and Substitute into a plus. Pain Split is usually enough, but his resistances and tendency to throw away health also makes him a decent Wish target as well.
Brand (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 10 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
Heatran is the glue that helps hold the team together. He causes no small amount of grief for my opponent with his respectable bulk on the special side, as well as being my source of Toxic and Stealth Rock. Protect greatly eases prediction and helps his Leftovers recovery and/or Toxic damage along, and Lava Plume is a strong attack that roasts Ferrothorn and Scizor, keeps him from being a Taunt chump, and poses the threat of a burn to possible switch ins. Heatran is safer from the threat of Earthquake and fighting type attacks than most, due to the presence of Landorus-T, Rotom-W and Gengar. He gives me and immunity to Fire and Poison, and even more resistances to grass, fairy, ice, dragon, and others. Stealth Rock indirectly keeps some threats in check, such as Mega Pinsir, Talonflame, and the Charizards, and helps weaken enemy pokemon with the switches this team is so good at forcing, giving my offense an easier time.
Rosie (Sylveon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 222 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect
Sylveon provides solid defense against both physical and special attacks, and isn't a slouch in the offense department either with a solid 110 special attack Hyper Voice, a sound based attack boosted by Pixilate and STAB that can pierce Substitute (the piercing ability has already won me two games). Sylveon's main job is to keep my team healthy with enormous Wishes, and allows me to salvage my Pokemon that have been crippled by status with Heal Bell. Protect stalls for Leftovers and Wish recovery. She gives the team an immunity to dragon and a resistance to fighting, and a very important resistance to Dark. One last important thing to note is that she can take one +1 Waterfall from a standard Mega Gyarados if she's relatively health, and KO with Hyper Voice, bypassing Substitute if he has one up.
Threats:
Clefable
I believe Clefable to be the number one threat to this team. None of my pokemon can deal a decisive blow to it, I have nothing that can phaze it or taunt it, and Magic Guard prevents me from using Toxic. Landorus-T can deal up to 43% against a standard Clefable but it has to lock itself into Earthquake to do so, or at least get rid of Leftovers, and Gengar can deal almost as much damage as Landorus-T's Earthquake and use Pain Split, but otherwise, I have nothing.
Landorus
Landorus outspeeds most of my team, and can deal heavy damage to everyone. I have to take a bloody nose to kill it.
Greninja
Similar to Landorus, I will have to take some damage to kill it, and it's ability to change types can give me trouble.
