every year, we see the Smogon Death Bingo or whatever the hell it's called lately. people 'wagering' regarding the mortality of public figures, political and otherwise. this game is played for pride. which is alright, i guess. me? i prefer to bet my odds with real stakes. if i make a prediction to win a contest, i want consequences. i want to lose, or glorify in the loss of others. which brings me to the premise of this thread: a wager to end all wagers. one with a punishment that surpasses that of the Bet Your Avatar thread.
THE TERMS OF THE BET:
will you take the plunge? the table sits, waiting for you to approach...to take a chance. perhaps Charon shall spare his taxes from your pawn, and punish mine. who's to tell...
THE TERMS OF THE BET:
- Myself and one other Poster (yet to be determined) privately choose one public figure that will not shuffle off their mortal coil in this Year of our Lord Twenty Twenty-Three. (note that this is not betting for death, but betting against it)
- Both of us must agree with each other's decision. A bet cannot truly be interesting if the stakes are less than equal.
- Once the agreement is struck, I will publicize our decision. I will not edit the post in which I do so further; our choices will be locked for the remainder of the year.
- This wager must be 'locked in' by the end of January.
- if the public figure you have selected dies, the other Poster is duty-bound to bear an avatar(s) of your choosing for the duration of 2024, beginning February 1st.
- the avatar may only be changed once during each calendar month, and must not be explicit or too 'far out there'. save this derangement, any avatar set forth by the winning Poster must be borne by the loser.
- if neither figures die, then no punishment is incurred. if both die, both gamblers suffer the penalty and are subject to the whims of the other.
- i recognize that i am not a particularly frequent Poster, and as such I will stipulate that a losing Poster must make at least 20 Posts per month. these need not be in Smogoff, and the number can potentially go up on request. the mark of shame must be borne publicly to truly be a penalty, after all.
- OPTIONAL: i am willing to also wager my custom title, subject to the same restrictions, if the other wagerer similarly possesses one that can be changed at will. a custom title and avatar must be imposed simultaneously; you cannot shift one without the other as one.
