Have you ever come across an article from months ago, then realized it's outdated? While we post a thread here, as well as post on Facebook and Twitter, we could be reaching a larger audience (many of which might not be aware that we even release articles here). We're now offering a subscription service to make up for the fact that some of our audience just doesn't keep an eye on this forum/doesn't use social media. By doing this articles will actually reach their intended audience.

How does this work?
Choose which categories (you can choose as little, or as many as you'd like) you'd like to get delivered direct to your inbox (within the first 24 hours of its release) and it's as simple as that. You can unsubscribe or change your subscription any time (by making a new post), and there's no limit to how many can be subscribed to an article category. If you don't wanna subscribe now, that's fine! The option is always there. Sign up for the type of articles you'd like by posting in this thread. Some articles might come under two categories, in which case a spotlight on Pumpkaboo in LC would be sent to all subscribed to Spotlights, as well as all subscribed to ORAS LC. In that case you'll only get sent the PM once.

Only a couple! In order for us to be able to send these out with as little hassle as possible, it would be wonderful if you guys could keep two easy things in mind as well. Firstly, since we are sending these out via regular forum PMs, please make sure that you do not have your PMs blocked--otherwise, we will get an error, and you won't be able to receive your subscription. Secondly, if you change your username on the forums, it would be wonderful if you could make a new post here saying that you did--this will help us keep the list as accurate as possible without having to consult the name change thread during releases. Usually we'll just try and sort it out, but if you don't follow these rules and happen to catch us in a bad mood, you might not receive your subscription, and if it happens repeatedly, we will probably just remove you from the list of subscribers. Thanks for the cooperation.

Additionally, if you're a PS room owner and any of these are relevant to your room, subscribing under your account and putting it in the welcome information of your room will allow articles to reach their right audience. Ubers: The category for Smogon's Uber tier.
UU: The category for Smogon's UnderUsed tier. Does not include Doubles UU.
RU: The category for Smogon's RarelyUsed tier.
NU: The category for Smogon's NeverUsed tier.
PU: The category for Smogon's lowest official tier, PU.
LC: The category for the format where small Pokemon can make a big splash.
Doubles: The category for Smogon doubles formats, mainly featuring DOU and DUU.
Monotype: The category for Smogon's Monotype format and its branching OMs like Monothreat.
VGC: The category for the on-cartridge official tournament formats.
Battle Spot: The category for the on-cartridge competitive battling formats, Battle Stadium Singles and Battle Stadium Doubles.
Other Metagames: From STABmons to Pure Hackmons, and everything in between! All sorts of fun metagames fall under this category.
National Dex: The category for Smogon's newest tier, created to ignore the dex cuts made in 2019 by Generation 8.
Anything Goes: An Other Metagame big enough to get its own category, Anything Goes (and National Dex AG) are the formats where anything legal on cartridge (and some extra, in National Dex) is allowed.
Past Gens: The category for all articles concerning generations 1 through 7.
CAP: This category covers both the Create-A-Pokemon Project's creation process and the metagame that includes the custom-made Pokemon.
Tournaments: This is for those who want to read about all tournaments held on Smogon, big and small. World Cup of Pokemon to 1v1 Premier League, it's all here.
Simulator: This category covers rooms on Pokemon Showdown!, randomized formats that don't fall under the other categories here, and anything else having to do with the various Pokemon battle simulators over the years.
In-Game: For all articles about the actual Pokemon games, from Red and Green to Sword and Shield.
Entertainment: For any article focused on entertaining the reader, from comparing the best and worst shiny Pokemon to explaining the biology of wild Pokemon.
Competitive Guides: Want to know how to get good? This category's for you.
RMTs: The category for articles written about particularly notable teams. This has not happened lately.
Spotlights: This category covers articles that point out a particularly notable Pokemon or set of Pokemon in a given format and then go really in-depth about said Pokemon.
Suspects: The category for suspect test coverage for all Smogon formats.
Community: The category by the people, for the people, about the people. This contains articles about Smogon and Pokemon Showdown's various subcommunities.
News: The category for when particularly important announcements are made about upcoming Pokemon games, major changes to The Flying Press, or major events on Smogon as a whole.
World of Pokemon: This category covers everything in the Pokemon canon (and non-canon) that doesn't particularly involve gameplay or competitive formats. From Judge-A-Pokemon Express entries to articles explaining Pokemon biology, it all falls under this.
Spinoffs: Are you a fan of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Go, and the various other side games? Subscribe to this!

I also want to mention I go by ILikeSponges4 on Showdown, I went by a different name when I joined Smogon. It will be changed to match my Showdown name ASAP.

Hey there, folks

It's been a bit of time coming as we've tried to figure out how to make this work moving forward, and we're going to take the step of closing this for the forseeable future. The subscription service was manual, difficult to make work, and relied on staff time and resources that weren't present and haven't been for a while. We hope that an automated system can return in the future and we will make an announcement when that happens, but for the time being, we as staff recommend that you Watch this forum and check out the threads that catch your interest. You can also watch the Announcements thread as another option.
