ORAS UU Sneasel! (74% GXE on alt)

With Base 115 speed, Sneasel fits comfortably into the UU speed tier and is a threatening mon with the right support, using the hugely successful core of Swampert and Roserade. 15 wins and 1 loss under my belt tells me that Sneasel can be reintroduced into the UU metagame easily.

aerodactyl-mega.gif

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Wing Attack
- Taunt
- Earthquake

Aerodactyl is one of the best UU mons in the tier and functions as a late game cleaner. Jolly is mandatory to allow me to outspeed Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile. Having Taunt allows me to shut down lead Azelf and allows me to beat Cursegron and Curselax which are huge threats to an extent if I don't have any options. Stone Edge is a terrifying move that hits 50% of the time and is my answer to Flying types. Wing Attack can be substituted for Aerial Ace which get a nice Tough Claws boost. Earthquake hits Nidoqueen/king and other nasty mixed Poison types for a decent OHKO.

roserade.gif

Roserade @ Black Sludge
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Spikes
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder

Specially defensive Roserade is simply one of the best sets out there. Super-effective Special attacks such as a Kyurem Ice Beam are a 2HKO which is nice. Giga Drain is for pesky Water/Ground types such as Swampert and Seismitoad for a nice OHKO/2HKO. Spikes is essential for hazard control on the opponent's side of the field and wears down their mons effectively. Univested SpA in Roserade hits 286 which allows me to hit a nice Sludge Bomb onto Fairy Types. Sleep Powder isn't essential but it helps getting a layer of Spikes seem like no effort at all. An alternative option is HP Fire which can hit the Chesnaught that walls this set.

swampert.gif

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Damp
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Roar

Swampert is my physically defensive mon and is very good at soaking up Mamoswine damage or a Sacred Fire from an Entei or a Flare Blitz from Darmanitan and a e.t.c. Stealth Rock coupled with a layer of Spikes is the best combination and is essential to wear down the opposing team over time. Damp is for suicide Azelf and Custap Berry Forretress to kill itself with no effect. The reason it is such a successful core because Swampert and Roserade cover each other's weaknesses effectively, taking minimal damage in the process and taking control of the game with excessive hazards. Earthquake STAB does a chunk with uninvested attack. Scald to make sure the water isn't cold and is essential for spreading burns if possible. Roar is for phazing a greedy Suicune or other Set up sweepers such as Gyarados with Rocks up whilst giving me an electric immunity to interrupt Volt-Turn cores.

sneasel.gif

Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Low Kick

Whilst its evolution is a pain in OU, Sneasel isn't that much far off with its strong dual STAB offensive pressure and huge Speed stat. It functions as a Revenge Killer with a STAB Ice Shard that is able to pick up kills on Choice Scarf Salamence, Rotom-C, and other Dragon types. Icicle Crash hits hard on everything that doesn't resist it, although it 3HKOS Florges. Knock Off is an essential dark move to get rid of items. Low Kick is the only Fighting move that does 68-81% to a Cobalion and can be used to grab a kill on a weakened Uncursed Snorlax.

tentacruel.gif

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze

My only Spinner and another Steel/Fighting resist, Tentacruel is one of the most reliable pokemon out there. Scald for burns and a Water STAB. Toxic Spikes with Stealth Rocks and Spikes is a deadly combination and can wear down teams effectively who don't have hazard control. Haze is to stop Suicune and other Set up mons from setting up. Liquid Ooze is to hurt Leech Seeders and Giga Drain-ers.

cresselia.gif

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonlight
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Psyshock

Cresselia is my win condition and another bulky mon that can 1v1 Non-Roar Suicune. This set is pretty standard and is effective but can be shut down by a Trick or Toxic or Taunt so being wary of that and switching to Tentacruel is the best play 100%.

Thank you for reading my first RMT and I hope you have the same amount of success that I did with this team. Please feel free to suggest changes as I am always open to the ideas of others. Alternatively just message me on Showdown I am blonderV2 and can be usually found in the UU room

hi, pretty fine team, like the use of sneasel
  • i don't really think specially defensive roserade is the best set for your team. offensive roserade > defensive would be a better choice as you only have ways of slowing suicune down than outright beating it. it may seem like roserade can beat it, but giga drain can easily be used as calm mind fodder due to how weak it is. so an ev spread of 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe and a Timid Nature is what you should run. Life Orb should be your item. I'd personally run Leaf Storm > Sleep Powder since having a backup option would be nice.
  • Only have a single wincon leaves you heavily dependent upon cresselia, so i'd run Hone Claws > Taunt on Mega Aerodactyl since it takes advantage of spikes very well to clean endgame

Hey there! I really like the team and think Sneasel is pretty cool. Here are some adjustments you could try out to make the team easier to use.

  • At first glance, I noticed that the team doesn't have a solid answer to special dragons, and more so dark types. A lot of the common dark types in the tier including Krookodile, Mega Absol, Mega Sharpedo, Hydreigon and Sableye look very threatening to your team, as your only resist is a very frail Sneasel and that's not the best way to deal with them. Other mons that possess strong Mega Blastoise could also be really scary to face. I suggest replacing CM Cresselia with CM Florges. This change gives you a solid answer to both special dragons and all of the aforementioned dark types, with the exception of being able to switch in to CB Krookodile. You'll be able to better handle special attackers in general. Additionally, this helps with another very scary threat in CB Heracross, which nothing on your team wants to switch into. It also gives you an Aromatherapy user to relieve your team of status. Note that this change means that you lose a pretty good switch in to the Nidos and Mamoswine. However, I feel that your team already has a pretty good match up versus the Nidos even without Cresselia. As for the Mamoswine weakness, that should be mitigated with a couple of changes addressed later. Anyways, here's the set:

florges.gif

Florges (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Synthesis
- Aromatherapy

  • Seeing as the team is pretty weak to Mega Beedrill, Alakazam, and Chandelure, it would be much more beneficial for you to run Pursuit over Taunt on Mega Aerodactyl. This allows you to trap and efficiently get rid of all three of them so that they don't get out of hand for the rest of the team. Taunt isn't going to be too useful on offensive MAero anyways. Also, you should give MAero an EV spread of 216 Atk / 40 Def / 252 Spe so that you can guarantee living a hit from Jolly LO Mamoswine's Ice Shard after switching into rocks, bar crit. Here's the set:

aerodactyl-mega.gif

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 216 Atk / 40 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Wing Attack
- Pursuit
- Earthquake

  • The team lacks a decent way to deal with fairies, CurseLax, and Suicune. While giving Roserade an offensive set may help with Suicune, I think it would be much better to just replace Roserade with SD Toxicroak. Even offensive Roserade can't handle CM Florges after a boost, and does nearly nothing against Snorlax. Having Low Kick on Sneasel is great, but when it's your best hard hitting option against Snorlax, there is a very good chance that you'll lose to it. SD Toxicroak offers you an additional setup sweeper that can take advantage of Suicune thanks to its ability, Dry Skin, and also another way to beat CurseLax. It offers you additional priority in Sucker Punch, which is really helpful in general and can further help with threats like Alakazam and MBeedrill. Also, adding it to your team is a great way to mitigate the Mamoswine weakness that opened up earlier from losing Cresselia, as well as better handle steel types. Here's the set:

toxicroak.gif

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch

Other Options:
  • You could try running a Calm Nature and slightly more special defense on Florges to have an easier time against certain special attackers like Specs Kyurem. Another noteworthy niche of running Calm CM is that from full health, you can CM on the switch in to Nidoking/Queen, CM again on the attack, and then be able to heal up and beat them from there. I'll leave some calcs below. Seeing as you already have Swampert and Tentacruel who are both fully invested in Physical Defense, this change has minimal drawbacks. The EV spread should then be: 248 HP / 232 Def / 28 SpD.

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Sludge Wave vs. +1 252 HP / 28+ SpD Florges: 166-198 (46.1 - 55%) -- 7.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Sludge Wave vs. +2 252 HP / 28+ SpD Florges: 125-148 (34.7 - 41.1%) -- 48.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 180 HP / 0 SpD Nidoqueen: 129-152 (35.2 - 41.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

  • Something that you could consider running is Aqua Tail over Earthquake on Mega Aerodactyl. This would allow you to hit the Nidos harder than Earthquake would, hit Mamoswine almost twice as hard and more reliably than with Stone Edge, and also get some fantastic damage on things like CB Krook. Between Tentacruel and Swampert, the team already handles the most common threats you would want to hit with Earthquake in Cobalion, Empoleon, and Doublade.

I hope my suggestions helped, and good luck with the team!

An alternate option for your Sneasel is running Inner Focus over Pickpocket; Pickpocket offers the chance to pick up a Choice Specs or Black Sludge or other negative item. Inner Focus can help prevent flinches from Fake Out from whatever. IMO its more of a personal preference thing, but I've heard arguments that Inner Focus has better use cases than Pickpocket.
