Sneasel[QC 2/3]

QC: Pearl. Arikado

Overview
########

Sneasel is a anti-meta offensive threat in the RU meta thanks to it's good speed,neat stab combo and access to a priority in stab ice shard. Thanks to stab knock off and stab Ice shard it can check dugtrio and reuniclus cores if reuniclus doesn't have signal beam or focus blast and priority provides utility in picking of weakened enemies and it revenge kills noivern and scarf flygon. The transition from XY to ORAS also let it have icicle crash + knock off compatible. However sneasel's attack while not terrible isn't high enough for it to help break bulkier pokemon. It's defensive typing also below average as it's weak to common types in fire,fighting, and fairy. Also it's vulnerable to all forms of residual damage. Plus it's checks by common threats such as qwilfish and mega steelix which can force it out and get up hazards.

All-Out Attacker
########
name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Knock Off
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Low Kick
move 4: Icicle Crash
item: Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========

Knock Off is sneasel's best stab move that is both crippling and strong at the same time.
Ice Shard is used for priority and in conjunction with knock off lets it check dugtrio + reuniclus cores.Low Kick is for steels and it can hit them rather hard due to their high weights.Icicle Crash is preferred for a secondary stab to hurt dark resists.Pursuit can trap psychics which is neat especially with reuniclus being dominate.

Set Details
========

A standard 252 Atk and 252 speed is used with the remainder being put into defense.
Life Orb is used to give sneasel as much power as possible. Jolly is to take advantage of 115 speed one of sneasel's best traits.

Usage Tips
========

Try to keep hazards off the field as it severely limits longevity to clean.Don't directly switch into attacks with sneasel, instead try bringing it in on double switches or with a slow volt switch.Predicting is also important as hitting checks with super effective coverage can open to a clean late game.

Team Options
========

As sneasel struggles to break through physical walls a wallbreaker is a good choice, exploud and hitmonlee both work and hitmonlee provides rapid spin support.A fighting type check is also a good option so garbodor,qwilfish,make good picks as well as slowking.Hazard support is also important as sneasel isn't the most powerful thing in the world qwilfish,garbodor , and mega steelix provide it and can defend those hazards.Voltturn users help sneasel get in safely so rotom-c meloetta and are all good choices. Hazard removal is also important considering sneasel's weakness to all hazards, flygon and hitmonlee both provide this. They also all can break steel types sneasel would rather not have to go against.

Other Options
########

Iron tail and poison jab hit fairies but nothing else.

Checks & Counters
########

  • **Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon with good bulk that don't take super effective damage from any of Sneasel's STAB moves can take a hit and either OHKO it or cripple it for the rest of the game. Examples of this are Aromatisse, Alomomola, and Mega Steelix.
  • **Revenge Killers**: Pokemon that outspeed sneasel and can take an ice shard or don't mind it can revenge kill it. Some examples are scarf durant and jolteon but both struggle to switch in.
  • **Passive Damage**: Sneasel takes 25% damage from Stealth Rock every time it switches in, is affected by Spikes, and is almost always holding a Life Orb, and is also affected by toxic spikes. which means it is relatively easy to wear down before it does any considerable damage

I would replace ice punch with icicle crash since its compatible with knock off now and it has more BP

Surprise, surprise! I'm actually the person who wrote this thing's analysis for XY n_n I've tested it in ORAS as well and I feel that it's still one of the most underrated Pokemon in RU. Why, you ask? It demolishes Dugtrio/Reuniclus cores to pulps (unless it is the less common Focus Blast Reuniclus). Also, people have realized (to an extent) that Steelix has a couple of glaring issues, mostly its lack of recovery (which make it easy to wear). With that said, I feel that this analysis needs some (read: a lot) of polishing.

Starting with the analysis' content (as opposed to the overview which is what I usually do in my QC checks), and after having tested it myself, I feel that Swords Dance Sneasel isn't worth a set (any other QC member is free to try and prove me wrong though). First of all, Eviolite Sneasel without any Swords Dance boost has a ridiculously low damage output (it fails to OHKO Houndoom with Low Kick after Stealth Rock damage...). Second, even with Eviolite it has little to no set up opportunities. Looking at the most used Pokemon in RU, the only one you can set up on with some consistency is Reuniclus, and even then it might carry, like I've mentioned before, Focus Blast. Dugtrio needs to be Choice Band locked into Sucker Punch for Sneasel to set up on it safely (which is rare as fuck), Houndoom and Steelix simply destroy it. I could keep going down the viability rankings thread in search of stuff that Sneasel can set up on but I doubt I'd find much in the end. So yeah, remove it (or try to come up with replays which make me reconsider this decision n_n)

OVERVIEW

Slightly messy (not the soccer player) Make it look like this:

  • Good speed tier (outruns Virizion, Cobalion and Heliolisk)
  • Good offensive typing
  • Priority in the form of Ice Shard allow it to pick off weakened threats (mostly notability Dugtrio, which it can even OHKO from full)
  • Transition from XY to ORAS makes the combination of Icicle Crash + Knock Off compatible
  • Has troubles breaking through bulkier Pokemon (Qwilfish, Steelix)
  • Below average defensive typing (weak to Rock, Fire, Steel, Fairy, Fighting, all of which are fairly common types in RU)
  • Vulnerable to all kinds of residual damage (easy to wear down)
What I did: Removed all mentions of Swords Dance set and Eviolite, made it more pleasent to read (although the way you put it is absolutely fine so don't worry, it's just me being nit-picking needlessly) and removed the sentence where you mention Emboar, Cobalion and Houndoom being threats. For reference:

220 Atk Life Orb Houndoom Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Sneasel: 103-121 (41 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Houndoom: 265-315 (91 - 108.2%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 140 HP / 0 Def Cobalion: 221-263 (61.7 - 73.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Emboar: 162-192 (44.8 - 53.1%) -- 33.2% chance to 2HKO

Conclusion: Out of those, Emboar is probably the most threatening, but even it is unable to directly switch into Sneasel, due to how easy it is to wear down. Instead, I've replaced those mentions with Qwilfish and Steelix, which are fairly more annoying for Sneasel to deal with, laying down the required entry hazards to wear Sneasel down as well.

ALL-OUT ATTACKER

Knock Off first, Ice Shard second, Low Kick third and Icicle Crash forth, possibly slashed with Pursuit. I mean, Pursuit trapping was one of Sneasel's coolest niches back in XY, and even though it got Icicle Crash to use now, that niche probably still remains due to Reuniclus' prevalence. Debatable though.

Remove the Inner Focus slash. Both abilities are fairly useless but Pickpocket at least makes your opponent think twice before using Knock Off (having that Assault Vest removed from Tangrowth or those Leftovers from Alomomola is neat for example)

EVERYTHING ELSE

Check this out. Most references are outdated, but some of the content is still relevant even now. I mean, what you wrote is mostly correct (excluding C&C, that's kind of garbage right now, no offense), but it could use a little more refining if you get what I'm saying. Don't forget to move Swords Dance and Eviolite to Other Options and explain why they're both inferior options.

Implement this for a 1/3 :)

Implemented all changes and this is now ready for the 2nd qc check!

Still believe you should work on it a bit more (mostly usage tips and team options, but also oo). I mean, I know this is just a skelly, but if it turns out to be some kind of foreshadowing to your writing abilities then idk what to expect in the end. If you need any kind of help outside of the link i sent then lmk btw (altho i believe both my fellow qc mates and you will do justice to sneasel)

It's Pickpocket, not PickPocket. I would also like to see Inner Focus slashed because pickpocket can be bad if it like, snatches a specs or something, and Sneasel mostly doesn't want to lose its Life Orb anyway. On the other hand, Inner Focus can cockblock... normal gem fake out hitmonlee, which I know doesn't even have its own set and is discouraged, but it's something. You could either replace Pickpocket with Inner Focus or slash it, I don't really care either way because they're too situational to the point where they're mostly useless lol.

Mention Toxic Spikes in c&c under the passive damage part, taking 10% from LO and 12% from poison each turn fucks up Sneasel.

Looks clean otherwise, not sure if more stuff should be mentioned in team options, something like voltturners to bring in Sneasel safely or something wouldn't hurt. Rotom-C, Meloetta, Heliolisk.

Implemented this and is now ready for 3rd check. I will write up later.

Guidorealmsmc, progress on this? If I don't get a response within 24 hours I'm reassigning.

I added noivern and flygon and as things it revenge kills. Also added flygon and hitmonlee as team options for hazard removal and they can help against steel types sneasel would rather not go up against. Some things I mentioned like checking dugtrio + reuniclus cores weren't clear so I mentioned it only checked them if reuniclus doesn't have focus blast or signal beam.

gonna lock this

The spelling, grammar, and overall content presented is deplorable, making everyone's job from this point forward that much more tedious and time consuming.

If you do not have a simple handle on capitalization, spacing, or actual metagame knowledge (Reuniclus will most definitely be running one of either Signal Beam or Focus Blast with no Doublade), please do not reserve analyses.

actually looking at it further it looks like you attempted to write this from your phone, which is an even greater offense
