Hello! I know this might seem odd in the midst of spring but I really want to perfect this team centered around hail. It's brought me very good success but it could be better. I used mostly Smogon EV spreads but if suggestions can be made, in EV spreads and in any other areas, tell me what you think.
Santa (lv 100 Abomasnow) @ Choice Scarf
252 Atk, 252 Spe, 6 SpA - Hasty
-Blizzard
-Wood Hammer
-Earthquake
-Focus Punch
The obvious choice for a hail lead, but a less conventional set. Scarf suprises many Pokemon who are apt to assume that they can outspeed him (i.e. Lucario, Heatran, Salamence, etc.) Hits hard with Blizzard, Wood Hammer, and Earthquake, but I have found little use for Focus Punch. I was thinking perhaps HP Fire to surprise unknowing Scizors that don't know about the Scarf and use U-Turn over Bullet Punch? - but I do have HP Fire on a later Pokemon.
Moustache (lv 100 Tentacruel) @ Leftovers
252 HP, 120 Def, 138 SpD - Calm, Liquid Ooze
-Surf
-Toxic Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Knock Off
Tentracruel has actually been letting me down. I need a spinner definitely, and I need status definitely, but I'm not sure poison is the route to go in this metagame, especially since this team is biased less towards stall and more toward bulky offense. Knock Off is fun to peel off leftovers and force hail to cause lasting damage, but if any suggestions can be made here than by all means.
Kenmore (lv 100 Rotom-Frost) @ Leftovers
252 HP, 122 Def, 136 SpDef - Bold
-Blizzard
-Thunderbolt
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
I really like Rotom-F in Hail - it has an offense combo that trumps the standard BoltBeam (with a STAB Thunderbolt and an ice move that's stronger than Ice Beam). Great for status absorption, fanTASTIC typing, and the low PP of Blizzard is easily remedied by Sleep Talk, which uses moves without draining their PP. I would be very reluctant to change this except if someone has another idea for a more effective EV spread.
Gem (lv 100 Metagross) @ Leftovers
252 HP, 244 Def, 14 Spe - Impish
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rock
-Explosion
This Metagross functions unlike any of the sweepers, but rather like a very bulky lead (that doesn't lead). It can take hits that opponents think Metagross can't take, and retaliate accordingly. Stealth Rock fits nicely on here, but I honestly can't ever remember having the chance to use Explosion. Maybe one of the screens or an Elemental Punch?
Lovely (lv 100 Latias) @ Leftovers
252 HP, 116 Def, 28 Spe, 114 SpD - Calm
-Wish
-Protect
-Draco Meteor
-Hidden Power - Fire
Latias is a very sturdy Wish passer than can also dole out some assorted hits with great type coverage in Meteor and HP. Protect is great for scouting Choiced attacks and Trick, and pairs nicely with the hail damage. I would like Latias to hit a bit faster though, while still retaining its bulk.
Duke (lv 100 Weavile) @ Life Orb
40 HP, 252 Atk, 216 Spe - Jolly
-Swords Dance
-Ice Shard
-Brick Break
-Night Slash
A wonderful end-game sweeper. Most people expect a Choice Band, which induces a switch into something that can take a hit, giving Weavile time to set up and turn that switch into something that can't take a boosted hit. Love the priority, Love the coverage, isn't hampered by SR as long as a spinner is on the team, and can deal a fatal +2 Ice Shard over Scizor's Bullet Punch if he's been weakened enough.
SO THAT'S IT! I hope I lined out extensively the details of this team and where I need improvements. It's a really fun team, and has great synergy, and has brought me an abundance of wins, but still could use improvement. Fire away.
