SolarTeam [A UU/NU Sunny Day RMT]

SolarTeam
Sunny Day UU/NU

AT A GLANCE:

BigWhitesnowghostswithsuntreecovere.jpg

PRELUDE:
RATE MY TEAM OR SUFFER THE WRATH OF MY FLUFFLES. Not really. They only unleash their wrath on other UU/NU teams. But this is why they need your help! They're a brand-new team full of holes and rates would help fix this.

I spent a lot of time deliberating over what direction I'd take with this team. Since I've only dealt with OU until now, I decided I wanted to explore the potential of my favorite Pokemon instead of going for the highest stats. I was planning on doing a Rain Dance team, but that wouldn't have been annoying enough to create, now would it?

THE TEAM:
Solarbeam has always been my favorite move, and combined with Sunny Day it's pretty much straight badas*sery. This is a Sunny Day team, and all my Pokemon currently run Solarbeam. This, like everything, is subject to change. So, basically, the team is based around the SunnyBeamer strategy.

THE MALICIOUS MONKEY

ambipom.png

AMBIPOM @ Heat Rock // Satsuki
Technician
Jolly
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd

- Sunny Day
- Taunt
- Fake Out
- U-turn

WHY AMBIPOM: So we've gone from Jumpluff to Crobat to Ambipom, and I think this will be my final choice. Ambipom is simply a stellar lead. With its good speed, excellent lead moves, and access to Sunny Day, Ambipom has earned a place as my lead.

ITEM: Heat Rock extends duration of Sunny Day, which is Ambipom's prime purpose.

NATURE/EVs: Max Speed to Taunt those leads who want to set up on Ambipom. Max Attack for U-Turn and Fake Out.

MOVESET: My first Sunny Day-er. Fake Out is to break sashes, Taunt is for slower leads that try to set up on Pom, and U-turn is for scouting.

THE METALLIC MONSTER // Totoro

registeel.png

REGISTEEL @ Heat Rock
Careful
252 HP / 100 Atk / 156 SpD

~Toxic
~Earthquake
~Stealth Rock
~Sunny Day

WHY REGISTEEL: The best wall in the UU game has officially been added to the team. I was using Clefable, and then Miltank, but with its stellar defenses, Registeel outclasses them all. Welcome, Registeel!

ITEM: I can't decide between Leftovers and Heat Rock. Leftovers would help with Registeel's lack of a recovery move, but Heat Rock would mean Sunny Day would last longer.

NATURE/EVs: HP maxed out, of course. The Atk EVs are for Iron Head, and the rest are put to SpD.

MOVESET: I really needed a Stealth Rocker/something that could Toxic the likes of Chansey, so Registeel was put in. Earthquake over Iron Head to stop the Fire-types that could threaten this team. This is also my second Sunny Day-er, so Sunny Day is included.

THE FLAMING LEGEND // Sen

entei.png

ENTEI @ Life Orb
Timid
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

~Stone Edge
~Flamethrower
~Solarbeam
~Eruption

WHY ENTEI: Originally I had Umbreon for team support and Baton Passing to Tangrowth, but then I realized it was stupid to waste an entire team slot just to power up one other Pokemon. I only had one other Fire type (Arcanine) so Entei was put in. With its great Attack stat and decent SpA, it's a great mixed Pokemon.

ITEM: Life Orb for massive damage.

NATURE/EVs: Full Special Attack and Speed for sweeping.

MOVESET: Stone Edge for coverage. Flamethrower is a reliable STAB move that gets a boost from Sunny Day, and Eruption is to wreak havoc when its HP is full. Solarbeam is a great opportunity in the sun.

THE WIGGLY WHACKER Mei

tangrowth.png

TANGROWTH @ Wide Lens
Adamant
252 atk / 156 spe / 100 HP

~ Earthquake
~ Power Whip
~ Sleep Powder
~ Rock Slide

WHY TANGROWTH: I was initially reluctant to use a Tangrowth on my team, though it obviously deserved a spot - I don't really like Tangrowth. But I've come around to the slimy-looking thing. It was suggested to me by a rater and it seemed to fit the spot, so that's why it's here.

ITEM: Wide Lens for better Sleep Powder accuracy.

NATURE/EVs: Full Attack and some Speed for sweeping, and the rest go to HP for durability.

MOVESET: It comes in on physical attackers with boosted Chlorophyll speed and wreaks havoc with Power Whip, Earthquake, and Rock Slide. Sleep Powder for things it can be walled by.

THE MANY-FACED FIGHTER Ponyo

exeggutor.png

EXEGGUTOR@ Life Orb
Chlorophyll
Modest
4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk

~ Solarbeam
~ Sunny Day
~ HP Fire
~ Synthesis

WHY EXEGGUTOR: At first I was going to use Bellossom, but a rater informed me that Exeggutor would be a better choice. It has higher Special Attack then Bell and runs the same ability.

ITEM: Life Orb to kill things quickly.

NATURE/EVs: SpA and Spe for Solarbeam and Psychic.

MOVESET: Have you spotted it? I bet you have! The SunnyBeam that is entirely central to this team. Running HP Fire for a boosted attack and Synthesis for durability.

THE DYNAMIC DOG Mononoke

arcanine.png

ARCANINE @ Life Orb
Modest
Flash Fire
252 Special Attack/252 Speed/4 Attack

~Flamethrower
~Extremespeed
~Solarbeam
~Morning Sun

WHY ARCANINE: I needed something that could benefit from Sunny Day and provide me with a bit more type coverage. Arcanine has good stats on both ends of the spectrum.

ITEM: Life Orb to deal as much damage as possible.

NATURE/EVs: I feel repetitive. SpA and Spe maxed out for sweeping.

MOVESET: Solarbeam for a great attack in sun. Flamethrower is veeery powerful with STAB and Sunny Day support. Extremespeed is a great priority attack in UU. Morning Sun to recover extra HP in the sun.

Well, there you have it. This team needs a lot of help. But they ARE cute. Admit it. They're cute. ;]

Ok, I really am not an expert on giving rates, but I think I'll give it a try. First of all, weather teams are very interesting, and when reading about yours i noticed something: you don't abuse the weather much. Of course, as you said, you employ de sunnybeam combo, which is pretty good, but you seem to be ignoring other effects that sun have, like raising fire type attacks power and activating chlorophyll, so I'd suggest you go with something like this:
Jumpluff: Everything is ok here, but on the fourth slot I'd go with Encore to mess up some pokes and get more opportunities to setup when encoring stat up moves, which would guarantee you sun for free.
Houdoom: Ok, here I have no idea why you bypassed a sun boosted Fire Blast for HP Flying, so I suggest changing that now. The item should be Life Orb to deal as much damage as possible, simply because Houndoom does not have the defenses to benefit whatsover from Lefties.
Ninetales: It seems to be doing just the same as Houndoom, but on an inferior way, so I'd go with a Chlorophyll sweeper here. I have noticed you have no physical sweeper too, so I think Tangrowth, holding Leftovers/ Life Orb (I'm not sure about EVs, but i guess Jolly/Adamant 4 HP/252 Atk/ 252 Spe) with a moveset of Power Whip, Sleep Powder, Earthquake, Swords Dance is the way to go; or if you want to keep the sunnybeam combo you can tweak the spread a bit and use HP Fire, Sleep Powder, Solarbeam and Earthquake. Tangrowth retains more speed when sun's up, gets STAB on grass type attacks (making Solarbeam very powerful), adds an extra sleeper, has a reliable attack for hitting fire types and has an useful water resistance.
For now I have no other suggestions on the other three, as I think neither me or you want to change the team too much, but I think you should keep 2 dedicated sun setups and the rest focused on sweeping.
Hope I've helped =).

Hey, nice team.

You have tackled it a bit differently to how I go about my Sunny Day teams, namely using your sun setters as offensive tools also. Just a couple of nitpicks/suggestions.

On Miltank you won't be running SolarBeam ever off its 40 base special attack, so scratch that option completely from his analysis. Earthquake is definitely the choice move.

On your Tangrowth you are running both SolarBeam and Power Whip, which is odd. Moreover, you are using a nature that cuts special attack, making SolarBeam way underpowered. This set leaves you to be completely walled by flying- and grass-types. The Tangrowth I use looks like this:

Spr_4p_465_f.png

Tangrowth
(F) @ Wide Lens
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Power Whip
- Sleep Powder
- Rock Slide

A slight adaptation from the Smogon standard Swords Dancer, and looks a lot like yours. It has the same power as yours, just better coverage and a more reliable Sleep Powder with Wide Lens at the cost of Leftovers. Still walled by grass-types, but can deal with them with Sleep Powder and switching. I'll mention the mixed set, but I don't want to deviate too far from what you have already unnecessarily. I strongly advocate for Rock Slide, and item choice well that just comes down to your own style.

All I can think of at this hour. Happy Sunny Daying!

Thanks a lot! *steals Tangrowth set* ;]

I was thinking of running Return over Earthquake on Miltank, because it's 150 base power with STAB. What do you think?

Thanks again for the rate!

It's a nice team but I think you have too many Pokemon that use Sunny Day. Maybe you could replace Typhlosion's Sunny Day with Substitute and Life Orb with Petaya Berry. If Sunny Day ends you can throw it in again comfortably with Belossom or Jumpluff (it's just an opinion though).

Why would you want umbreon? your set doesn't even have sunny day...
Btw, you ever tried scarf/specs typhlosion with eruption? it kicks ass. Eruption does 150 STAB + Sun amazing damage. Scarf insures you hit all, specs works well against stall teams, denting all.

Typhlosion (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Focus Blast
- Swift

I dunno why you want bellossom over exeggutor, exeggutor has a MUCH higher sp.att

Exeggutor (M) @ Heat Rock
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Solarbeam
- Sunny Day
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Now, i mimicked what you wanted off from bellossom, a self-setup sunny day sweep, with a healing move. Synthesis works exactly the same as your moonlight under sunny day.

@Madray: I was going to use Scrappy so I could hit those pesky Ghosts, but do you think Thick Fat would be better?

@jonsterz: I love the Exeggutor set! I'm definitely using it.

That Eruption of Typhlosion's really makes me want it, but I also really need some team support. I suppose I could run Sunny Day on Umbreon, but then I'd have three Sunny Day users, which I don't think I need.

I think it is illegal in NU/UU with Crobat being in the Borderline tier. I don't like Jumpluff as a lead any more, since it just screams Sunny Day and people act accordingly.

Hm... I suppose I could use Ambipom, but I do not enjoy Ambipom, and it's pretty predictable as a lead.

Without any defensive EV investment, Arcanine should not use Roar, with SR up it should not be trusted to take hits. I suggest running Morning Sun (restores 66% HP in sun) over Roar.

Give Registeel the Heat Rock instead of Exeggutor. Exeggutor needs all the power it can get, so Life Orb would be cool for getting more OHKOs.
