Some OU Favorites

This is a team I made for a local tournament on the spot with Pokemon I had in my boxes. I tried to make a balanced team out of things I liked and it ended up working out as a really solid team. There were a lot of common OU threats I faced but also a lot I didn't so the team will be in need of some true testing.

It has no mega evolution and acts as a bulky offense team at heart. Here it is at a glance:

And now for the building process/explanation.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Sp Att / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flash Canon
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

This was my first member of the team; I chose it because Scizor was common at my local meta (go figure the night I use this nobody I faced had Scizor on their team), and because I have always liked it but never used it much. Given that I outspeed, I can trap and incinerate Scizor with HP Fire; now, I know this EV spread can outspeed common bulky Scizor but I'm not sure what else it outspeeds that is relevant (somebody want to fill me in, the set was taken from Smogon's commons sets). Anyhow, I chose Choice Specs over its other sets because it has potential to break walls due to its raw power. Duel STAB is necessary and Volt-Switch for when it is needed.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Sp Att / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf (might switch this for something else but it is the best coverage for its common switch ins of Heatran and AV Tyranitar)
- Defog

Latios has always been among my favorite legendaries and its usability in OU makes me include it on most of my teams (even though it is easy to check/counter, which is why it is allowed in OU haha). With Magnezone's weakness to Fire, Ground and Fighting this team mate seemed pretty much perfect to help mitigate damage for switches (also great for Tyranitars weaknesses). I don't have a rapid spinner so having Defog on it was decidedly the best choice. With that, I chose to use Life Orb instead of a choice item to make it more useful. Dual Stab to deal massive damage, pretty standard.

Sylveon Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp Def / 4 Sp Att
Att IVs: 0
Calm Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Heal Bell
- Protect
- Wish

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Sylveon but it seemed like the perfect fit to finish a steel/dragon/fairy core. It makes a great special wall and cleric while helping out deal with Latios' main weaknesses. Leftovers to help aid recovery and Pixilate to maximize damage and bypassing Subs. I opted for Protect over Toxic to more consistently recover via Wish while also giving the ability to do a bit of scouting. Wish and Heal Bell are there to keep my team healthy, of course. EVs and nature are for maximized bulk to keep her in the game to support as long as possible.

Swampert Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Att
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Watefall
- Earthquake
- Toxic

Swampert is fantastic, always one of my favorite starters (I just love most of the water starters to be honest). This spot was a hard one to fill because I wanted both something to set up rocks and something that could take physical hits fairly well. This spot could likely be taken up by something else but I feel he did his job well. Again, EVs and nature were to maximize bulk. Dual STAB for dealing good damage off his already above par base attack and toxic for helping to slowly kill with residual damage alongside Sandstorm (Tyranitar).

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Att / 136 Sp Def
Sassy Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Ice Beam

Tyranitar is another favorite and it has been a competitive powerhouse since its creation. He is incredibly versatile and thus he becomes even more of a threat to an opponent simply because they always have to be thinking about what set it could be. Granted I have no other potential megas the opponent might automatically assume he is mega, while he is not. He is in fact, what is becoming his most popular set, an assault vest set. I use Sassy and 136 Sp Def EVs to give the additional boost he needs, and with AV and Sand up he tanks every special hit even most Focus Blasts pretty well. The attack investment is to pack a punch into his hits and to give little hope to the Lati twins being able to do much (SR damage twice plus pursuit usually seals the deal for them). Dual STAB for primary attacks and Ice Beam is just there for coverage and potentially getting things like Gliscor off guard. Might switch Ice Beam up or mix up his moveset but this is how it is for now. Tyranitar is a great team mate to Latios and Conkeldurr and acts as another tank.

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Att / 48 Sp Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch

Conkeldurr was a Pokemon I used to hate but learned to love. With this staple set he filled the last slot perfectly. Without him the team lacked a powerful fighting type presence as well as any type of priority move. So, ultimately I chose to use him to finish up the roster. Assault Vest makes Conkeldurr the beast he truly is. Max HP to help him tank hits, with the rest of the EVs spread to help him take hits and retaliate with good damage. Guts over Iron Fists to absorb statuses and making it so he isn't crippled by Will-O-Wisp. Drain Punch is phenomenal when the opportunity to effectively use it presents itself, with Mach Punch being excellent priority for finishing things off. Ice Punch for coverage, which is also an offensive type not elsewhere on the team, ad Knock Off for hurting Ghost types and just generally being an amazing move.

Well, that's it folks! I hope you understand my building process while the though put into it was limited I think it turned out being alright. I'm sure there are threats that are unaccounted for which is why I'm displaying the team to you guys! So I can get insight and make this team even better and hopefully use it again at next week's tournament!
