Moves
=========
Moonblast threatens Fighting-types like Mega Lopunny, Mega Medicham, and Keldeo, Soft-Boiled is important to keep Clefable healthy and let it be a reliable switch-in against special attackers like Mega Diancie, Thundurus, and Mega Alakazam. Thunder Wave cripples faster targets and helps to defeat opposing Clefable. However, Flamethrower is useful against Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Skarmory, and it can catch Excadrill and Scizor on the switch in. Knock Off allows Clefable to support its team by removing items such as Leftovers, Assault Vest, and Rocky Helmet from foes. Calm Mind lets Clefable set up to become a late-game sweeper itself and handle strong special attackers like Mega Diancie, Mega Alakazam, and Keldeo. Lastly, if the team is in need of a Stealth Rock setter, Clefable is able to fit that role as well.
Set Details
=========
Maximum HP investment with 96 Special Defense EVs allows Clefable to tank special attacks from Mega Alakazam and Mega Diancie, while the Defense EVs help against Diamond Storm and physical attackers like Weavile and Mega Lopunny. Furthermore, after a Calm Mind, Clefable is able to sustain itself against Choice Specs Keldeo, Calm Mind Mega Alakazam, and Choice Scarf Magnezone. With the remaining Defense investment, Clefable is still able to deal with some physical attackers like Dragonite and Mega Lopunny as long as it is kept at full health. Magic Guard lets Clefable absorb status moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic, as well as protecting it from entry hazards and weather damage.
Usage Tips
=========
Clefable has good bulk, an ability that protects it from entry hazards and weather damage, and healing from Soft-Boiled; thanks to this, Clefable is a suitable switch-in against many special attackers like Mega Diancie and Mega Alakazam as well as pivots like Tornadus-T and Rotom-W and Dragon-types like Garchomp and Latios. Clefable can be a good lead thanks to having a variety of utility moves, setting up Stealth Rock, using Knock Off to remove items, and forcing out Weavile, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Charizard-Y with Thunder Wave. If Clefable runs Flamethrower, it should aim to catch strong Steel-types Scizor, Bisharp, and Excadrill on the switch. When running Calm Mind, Clefable can function as a setup sweeper as soon as its checks, like Excadrill, Mega Scizor, and Serperior, are weakened or defeated. When facing Mega Alakazam or Mega Diancie, Clefable should stay healthy and avoid Knock Off to keep its Leftovers.
Team Options
=========
Clefable does best on balance and bulky teams, since it can function as a specially defensive check, provide utility such as Stealth Rock and Knock Off, and wall many special attackers. Good teammates for Clefable are Pokemon that handle strong physical attackers, like Slowbro and Cresselia, which aid in checking Meta Metagross, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Medicham. Zapdos has the ability to deal with Steel-types like Excadrill and Bisharp. Especially when using Calm Mind, Clefable appreciates teammates that can support its team against an overload of physical attackers like Weavile, Dragonite, and Mega Gallade. Therefore, Mega Scizor, a sand core of Tyranitar and Excadrill, and Rotom-W synergize well with specially defensive Clefable. Lastly, on more offensive teams that struggle with Mega Diancie, specially defensive Clefable can be a good choice because it does not restrict momentum to the same extent that other options would.
