[SET]
Specially Defensive (Gholdengo) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof / Well-Baked Body / Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 228 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball / Hex
- Make It Rain
- Recover
- Nasty Plot / Thunder Wave
[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its amazing typing, access to Recover, and ability to potentially spread status, Gholdengo serves as a great special wall, able to answer common special attackers like Deoxys-S and Scream Tail. Shadow Ball should be run with Nasty Plot, but teams that appreciate Gholdengo's ability to spread status against key threats like Manaphy and Roaring Moon can use Hex alongside Thunder Wave. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Gholdengo from being chipped down by entry hazards throughout the game, but Leftovers is also an option for extra recovery if the team has sufficient hazard removal. Bulletproof blocks Weather Ball from Primarina and Shadow Ball from Deoxys-S, Gengar, and opposing Gholdengo, letting it counter them. Well-Baked Body lets Gholdengo switch into Fire-types like Iron Moth, Cinderace, and Heatran, while Volt Absorb is a more niche alternative to wall Hisuian Electrode and Iron Hands. 28 Speed EVs allow Gholdengo to outspeed defensive Great Tusk. Certain special attackers like Iron Moth if not running Well-Baked Body and Sandy Shocks threaten Gholdengo, so teammates that can handle them like RegenVest Roaring Moon make a good pairing. Gholdengo is also vulnerable to physical attackers like Ceruledge and Chien-Pao, making teammates that can deal with them like Great Tusk and Corviknight, respectively, great teammates. Gholdengo fits on bulkier balance teams that appreciate its offensive pressure, defensive prescence, and ability to take advantage of Corviknight with Nasty Plot.
