SS OU Specs Pult Balance (peak #1800)

Hey Everyone, my name is Skeptcal Dingo, but most call me SD. ive been playing mons competitively for 12 months now, and this is one of the teams i have built and had some success. Please forgive me, this is my first time doing this and i also have extremely limited Team Building Experience.

okay so lets get into the team:

Dragapult @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
- Hex

I built the team around Dragapult back when spectrier was around. Specs hits super hard and is helpful to get through substitutes and finish out games. The spread is pretty standard to make sure im faster than most things in the tier.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Toxic

Landorus is a favourite of mine, a great typing being an electric and ground immunity is great, also the versatile movepool makes it a great mon on many teams. For this team, its the defogger, help pass status to opposing landorus-t and problematic setup mons. The spread allows areasonably slow U-turn helps to get Pult in safely if the positioning is good for it, and also a more tanky build to allow it to live longer. overall its here to punish and weaken opposing mons for Dragapult and to protect Pult from hazards.

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock
- Teleport

Blissey was Good for spectrier and other ghost types, i have it with leftovers as it helps me deal with heatran and magearna a bit better, not well but somewhat better than with boots. Teleport is there to get the safe switch in to pult to hit things hard. As lando is the defogger i thought rocks would be good as the last move on Blissey. Spread is just the standard tanky blissey sponge

Toxapex @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze
- Knock Off
- Recover

Toxapex is a great physical wall for things like Urshifu-R, it can play around Choice band melmetal and other physical mons. Tspikes is there to apply hazard pressure and to make hex stronger for pult. haze is standard to prevent setup mons getting too carried away. knock is knock and recover is staple. Overall, toxapex is designed to come in on the physical attackers, knock items, set spikes and get some damage with helmet, all makimg everything weaker for pult.

Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Low Kick
- U-turn
- Pyro Ball
- Sucker Punch

i needed another attacker on the team so cinderace seemed a good fit. sp def heatran was something i found difficult to beat in testing so Cinderace was good for mainly that reason but also as a hard hitting mon with pivot potential. Low kick is there as if i ran into protect tran it made it harder than it needed to be, u turn is for the pivoting and maintaining momentum. pyro ball is standard and sucker punch was there to get one more hit off if i needed it. i have played around with gunk shot and zen headbutt. gunk shot for things like tapu fini and zen headbutt for opposing pex. im unsure if i have chosen the right move there but it has helped in alot of games. Spread is to be faster than most things and to hit as hard as possible.

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Substitute

Corviknight, i wanted another defensive mon on the team, banded rillaboom and scaleshot garchomp were issues and i found corviknight to be pretty good against them. the sub set is a good surprise, ive found most people assume it to be defog if i dont reveal it on lando early and once ive bulked up, i can get some powerful hits off on things and weaken them for pult. I am unsure of this slot, but to stall things like pex and ferrothorn are good, pex especially has been difficult for me to break with this team. Spread is simply sp def as after the bulk up corviknight is tanky as all hell.

Conclusion:
For me this team peaked just over 1800, its the highest i have ever been on ladder and i am quite proud of it. im seeking advice on this as my goal is to be #1. I understand there are most likely huge flaws with this team, ev spreads not as good as they can be, and better mons for the roles i have. i appreciate all feedback in relation to this team and welcome any advice people may have in regards to team building in future.
Thankyou for your time to read this, it is by no means perfect and i know i have alot to learn and i value any and all criticism you may have.

Hey there, cool team you've got but I have some suggestions for you which can help you achieve your goal.
Your team looks fine its mostly your set choices and IVs I have some suggestions about and I'll be listing them below

:landorus-therian: and :corviknight:

Landorus-T is not the best choice for a Defogger especially when you have a much better one already in your team. Adding on that, Bulk Up Corviknight is not a very good set either. This is why I suggest giving Corviknight Defog and Landorus-T Stealth Rock. Defensive Corvknight and Landorus-T also make great partners in crime since they can take defensive pressure off of each other and pivot out of each others checks and hence be able to play around them. I also edited your Landorus-T's EVs a bit. Since your Landorus-T now has Stealth Rocks and having two Stealth Rock setters in the same team I recommend giving Blissey Thunder Wave instead, this can act as a decent form of speed control and enable your Dragapult's Hex.
All three sets are given here:-

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn
- Brave Bird

Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave
- Teleport

:toxapex:

Next up on my list of changes is your Toxapex set which can be modified a bit. I suggest using Scald over Knock Off as it can burn pokemon such as Cinderace, Rillaboom and Hawlucha which can be very useful during the game, though Knock Off can be used to knock off Heavy-Duty Boots from the likes of Cinderace, Slowbro and Dragapult which can make them vulnerable to Toxic Spikes. In my opinion you should go with Scald though if you think Knock Off works better for you then go ahead. I also gave it 112 SpDef EVs which can help it take a Future Sight from Slowbro while tanking a hit from Cinderace and it can help check Choice Specs Magearna since it can take less damage from Volt Switch.

Toxapex @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Haze
- Toxic Spikes

:cinderace:

Next up is Cinderace; Low Kick is a sub-par choice on it especially since it has access to High Jump Kick. I know that the recoil damage might be unappealing but its worth the risk. Without it you lose out on the OHKO on Blissey which can be detrimental to your team seeing as it has a difficult time dealing with it otherwise. I also suggest using Zen Headbutt instead of Sucker Punch as it is more useful right now imo since it can hit Toxapex for supereffective damage which also very good since your team can have a bit of a difficult time dealing with it otherwise.
Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- U-turn
- Pyro Ball
- Zen Headbutt

Hey bro, honestly Thankyou so much for taking the time to do this. I agree with a lot of your points and the reasoning behind your Ev spreads. Due to limited experience I’ve just gone pretty standard sets but I like what you have suggested. I’ll try your additions and see how I go. Thanks again for your help mate. Very much appreciate it

The team is good, but I think it has a glaring weakness: specially defensive Heatran with Magma Storm, Earth Power, Taunt, Protect. You have to be extrmely careful not exposing Corviknight and Toxapex too much because if it is against either, it just gets to click its STAB and mess something up immediately. Protect also completely turns HJK against Cinderace aswell. Have you ever faced this Heatran? If so, how have you dealt with it?

I have noticed the threat of Tran. I have ran low kick previously incase protect is a think so I can deal with it that way.

also, my blissey with lefties can usually get a lefties Tran dead or at least 25% but blissey is essentially useless after that as it’s too weak, or it’s died in the process. It’s my way of dealing with it and like I said, it’s not great but it’s something.

Heatran is a problem to the team; but it can be played around. I would have tried to fix this problem if it didnt make it weaker to other pokemon that can be a bit harder to play around. Although if Heatran becomes a very big problem for your team you can switch out Blissey with a Slowking.

:slowking:

Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Future Sight
- Teleport
Although this change fixes your problem with Heatran it does make your match up against Nasty Plot Tornadus-T a bit worse as before you could have used Blissey to take a hit and possibly paralyze it for either Cinderace or Dragapult to revenge kill it. This match up can also be played around so its up to you which you decide to use.

Have fun.
