Salamence is my favorite pokemon, and I'm tired of seeing everyone using a DD or Mixed variant. So I decided to make a team based around a different Mence. As I decided i wanted an offensive team, I started with SpecsMence. This team is made to let Salamence create holes in the opponents team and sweep. There's defiantly room for improvement and I'm still losing like 2-3 games out of ten, though its partly due to my bad prediction skills. Anyways, on to the team.
At a glance:
Gliscor@Yache Berry
Jolly
Hyper Cutter
EVs: 204 Hp, 88 Atk, 216 Spe
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
- U-Turn
At first, I was using a Swampert lead. I needed a Bulky lead that could set up SR effectivly while supporting the rest of the team. But then I discovered a big SD luke weakness so I tested a Gliscor for a lead, and found that it worked just as well. EQ 2HKO's Metagross and almost always OHKO's Heatran lead, even with Shuca Berry. LeadApe cant do anything to this lead and the only leads that I actually lose against are Mamo and Pert, though i still get SR with Yache Berry. 216 and Jolly outspeeds all forms of Luke (besides Scarf) and KO's with a STAB Earthquake. As I kept losing to Azelf and Aero, I tried out U-Turn in the last slot. U-Turn breaks Aero's sash, and does massive damage to azelf, allowing me to go to scizor for an easy KO with Bullet Punch. They don't even get SR up unless they set up rocks on the first turn, which they usually don't. Provides some useful resistances and helps stop Meta and T-Tar.
Porygon2@Leftovers
Bold
Trace
EV's: 252 Hp, 216 Def, 40 SpA
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Toxic
I wanted a poke that could stop Gyarados and Salamence from rampaging through my team. P2 does this and much, much, more. Stopping ScarfTran, Vappy, SpecsJolt, and even Magnezone, this duck helps hold the team together. BoltBeam is self explanatory, Recover for instant recovery, and Toxic lets me get through hard situations with stalling alone, while crippling walls and such. The EV's are for maximum defences with a small investment in Special Attack.
Starmie@Leftovers
Timid
Natural Cure
EV's: 136 Hp, 120 Def, 252 Spe
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
With SpecsMence being the first part of my core, I decided I definatly needed a spinner as the other part of the core. Starmie fit that role perfectly while providing offensive coverage and supporting my team. Pretty standard, lefties and Recover giving me survivability. The EV's are geared towards maximum defences, with max speed over the extra Def. Also has the perk of stopping any rampaging Napes, while outspeeding many things and hitting them hard.
Salamence@Choice Specs
Timid
Intimidate
EV's: 252 Spe, 252 SpA, 4 Hp
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump
The pokemon that started the team. With DDMence and MixMence dominating the metagame, SpecsMence is forgotten and comes with a nasty suprise factor. 110 Base SpA is nothing to scoff at, expecially when combined with Choice Specs and a STAB 140 Base Power Draco Meteor. This thing pops in and destroys the enemy poke, then gets the heck out of there. DM will destroy pretty much anything in its path that doesnt resist it or isnt named Blissey or Snorlax. Fire Blast hits those Steels hard, and Hydro Pump works excellently with the rest of the set, being a good compromise move. DPulse is there for late game sweeping.
Scizor@Choice Band
Adamant
Technician
EV's: 248 Hp, 252 Atk, 8 Spe
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower
With 3 Special Attackers, I needed some good ol' physical power. I wanted a decently bulky revenge killer that could stop blissey, preferably a steel type to better support Salamence. Of course, Scizor instantly came to mind. I considered a SD set, but the CB set fit the bill better and CB bullet punch and U-Turn were too good to pass up. Stopping T-Tar, revenge killing with BP, and scouting while hitting hard with U-Turn, Scizor works perfectly in this slot. Pursuit takes care of fleeing psychics and ghosts, and hits Blissey or snorlax on the way out for a good 30-40%. Superpower scares away blissey and snorlax, KOing them if they stay in, and gives some nice coverage. Fits the team perfectly and really helps wear down the opponents team.
Tyranitar@Babiri Berry
Adamant
Sand Stream
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Hp
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Punch
With the opponents team worn down and weakened, T-Tar comes in and finishes the job. With most counters out of the way, T-Tar can effectively pull of a late game sweep with DD and its legendary Dual STAB in Stone Edge and Crunch. Babiri Berry combined with Fire Punch lets me take a bullet punch from scizor and get rid of it once and for all with Fire Punch. If I have to bring it out earlier, I get Sand Stream and my other pokes can still sweep through the enemy's team, late game without too many problems.
Well, thats my team, hope you like it and please rate and help improve it. It still has room for improvement and help would be greatly appreciated.
