Spectrier is the new ghost legendary horse introduced in generation 8 in the second DLC content of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
We will talk about the solo forme of these pokémon in this Ou Gen 8 Dlc2 thread:
Spectrier is ghost type, genderless and have in the Base stats: 100 in HP, 65 in Attack, 60 in defense, 145 in Special attack, 80 in special defense and 130 in speed. Ghost is immune to normal and fighting, resist bug and poison and is weak to ghost and dark. Ghost is super effective on ghost and psychic and is resisted by dark and can't touch normal type.
This pokémon is a fast and strong special attacker very similiar as mega-gengar whitout the ability to trap the oppenent on the field and the vaste movepool of gengar.
This pokémon has a very limited movepool but can deal impressive damage with the help of this signature ability Grim Neigh (When the Pokémon knocks out a target, it utters a terrifying neigh, which boosts its Sp. Atk stat) and access to nasty plot and calm mind. We will disccuss about three set this pokémon can run.
The first Set: Choices Set
IVS: 252 in Special Attack, 252 Speed and 4 in special defense
Nature: Timid or Modest
Item: Choice Specs or Choice Scarf
*Shadow ball
*Mud Shot
*Hex/Dark Pulse
*Will-O-Wisp/Dark Pulse/Uproar
Shadow Ball is the best initial damage on this pokémon with the possibility to drop the special defense on the ennemy target. Hex is only stronger if the ennemy have a status condition. Mud shot is there to reduce speed on the grounded ennemy (give in some speed controle on this pokémon) and is very helpfull to kill special defensive heatrean who can take your shadow ball and love the possibility to get a fire attack boost form your potential Will-O-Wisp.
Will-0-wisp can be weird on a choice set but it is there to burn some physical dark type in the tier and be able to do more damage with hex later in the Battle and reduce their physical attacker. The toxic spikes support is appreciated to have a stronger special ghost attack than shadow ball with hex if the ennmy is status with poison and some ennemy pokémon can't be burn and are grounded.
Second Set: Offensive Sub/Boost Set
IVS: 252 in Special Attack, 252 Speed and 4 defense
Nature: Timid
Item: Leftovers
*Calm mind/Nasty plot
*Substitute
*Hex/Shadow ball
*Will-O-Wisp/Disable/Taunt
The big problem of the set is normal type can easily wall you. Your team will need to have a way to pressure bulky normal type. You can play hex with Will-O-Wisp to be more bulky on the physcial side and do more damage with hex. Antother option will be to Substitute on a bulky mono attacker and use disable to get a free sub or a free boost with calm mind or with nasty plot. You can remove some IVs in Special Attack to add them in Defense if you play will-O-wisp and you really want to make your Substitude bulkier on the physical side. Also your can use taunt to stop healing and prevent slower taunt user to use taunt on yourself.
Third Set: Offensive Life Orb/Nasty Plot Set
IVS: 252 in Special Attack, 252 Speed and 4 in special defense
Nature: Timid
Item: Life Orb
*Nasty Plot
*Shadow Ball
*Mud Shoot
*Hex/Dark Pulse/Uproar
The advantage of this set over the choice specs is the possiblity to switch move and still have the possibility to set up a Nasty plot on a free turn. This set is diffiult to set up whitout the protect of Substitute or Will-O-Wisp or Disable. Choice Specs will be better in situtation when you don't have the chance to use a Nasty plot whitout dying. The pokémon movepool make it difficult to have option to deal with bulky normal type or dark type whitout Will-O-Wisp.
In conclusion this ghost pokémon is very limited in this movepool but can deal impressive ghost type damage if you are not prepare for him.
