* This set relies on outspeeding key threats such as Chien-Pao and Speed Booster Energy Great Tusk, using the Speed boost from Booster Energy to flip otherwise unfavorable matchups for Iron Crown.
* Psychic is Iron Crown's strongest Psychic-type STAB move, which allows it to hit Pokemon like Iron Hands and Great Tusk. On the other hand, Psyshock is the best option against Pokemon like Raging Bolt, where both Pokemon typically use Calm Mind six times.
* The HP and Defense EVs allow Iron Crown to tank an Earthquake from Adamant Choice Band Iron Hands and a Hydro Cannon from +3 Torrent Primarina at +4 Special Defense. The Speed EVs help it outspeed Porygon-Z, and the remaining EVs are invested in Special Attack.
* Because Fire- and Dark-type Pokemon like Darkrai, Skeledirge, Hoopa-U, and Iron Moth are difficult for Iron Crown to deal with by itself, Primarina and Donphan work as good partners for Iron Crown.
