SS OU Spikes + Future Sight Obstagoon

Importable

Since Wicked Bear got banned and people seem to be hyping Obstagoon up, I decided to have a go and build a team with him. Since Obstagoon is a really strong wallbreaker that is hard to switch into, I figured I'd support him with Spike and Future Sight to make him impossible to switch into. I'm playing around the 1700s and the team has been doing quite well for me.

Obstagoon @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Switcheroo

A nuke once the flame orb is activated. Facade plows through anything that doesn't resist it, while knock hits really hard and displaces items against targets. Close Combat is useful coverage for certain mons that resist the STAB combo or resist normal and don't have an item like Ttar, Bishrap and Ferro. Switcheroo is great to cripple mons that try to switch in and take a hit, or if you're cheeky and feel like stealing Leftovers which prevents the burn from wearing him down. I find Jolly to be much better than Adamant, as it allows him to outspeed (and nuke) Nidoking, Suicune, Rillaboom, Excadrill and Lando. Outspeeding Lando is espcially nice since Knock Off into Facade is guaranteed to kill Scarf Lando. Also a great check to stupid Spectrier. Legend.

skarmory.gif

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Body Press
- Spikes
- Toxic

Needed someone to lay Spikes and using Ferro seems a bit too boring, so I went with Skarmory. Fully physically defensive to handle the grassy bois and other annoying threats like Bisharp (survives +2 knock off and 0HKOs with Body Press). Rocky Helmet provides really useful chip and punishes U-Turns. Body Press prevents him from being passive against quite a few mons, and Future Sight + Body Press is surprisingly potent. Toxic is great for punishing common Defoggers like Zapdos, Lando, etc. It does unfortunately mean that there's no room for Whirlwind, but I think it's the superior option for this team since Scarf Latios can trick setup sweepers.

slowbro.gif

Slowbro @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Future Sight
- Teleport
- Slack Off
- Scald

Standard FuturePort bro, not much to say. Pairs with Skarmory very well to handle most physical threats in the metagame. A great pivot in general as it a pseudo-status absorber and knock off sponge, and allows Obstagoon, Chomp and Latios come in safely. I do not like Boots on Slowbro as chipping broken Cinderace when it U-Turns is essential, while also being useful for Melmetal. The EVs are standard fully physically defensive since it needs to handle physical attackers. Shiny since that looks way cooler.

latios.gif

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Defog
- Trick

Amazing amazing mon that surprised with how useful it is every game. Scarf provides with an excellent speed tier, while hitting really hard because of its naturally high special attack. This allows to be a great revenge killer and late-game cleaner due to Psychic hitting surprisingly hard and Obstagoon greatly weakening durable steels for Latios to sweep. Gets to defog very often due to how much it threatens especially when its coverage options aren't known (bluffing mystical fire against Ferro, etc.). Trick is really useful cripple setup sweepers or defensive mons when you know the Scarf isn't needed anymore. Outspeeding Venasaur and Dracozolt in their respective weathers is also an excellent strength.

magearna.gif

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 224 SpD / 36 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Volt Switch
- Fleur Cannon
- Ice Beam
- Iron Head

Really useful pivot into a variety of special attacks with its absurd special bulk and coverage options. Fleur Cannon hits amazingly hard even without investment, with Volt Switch to grab momentum (and also bluff specs against Lando then kill it with Ice Beam as it proceeds to set rocks up). Iron Head and the speed EVs are to beat Clefable and a tricked setup Magearna. Acts as a great secondary Spectrier check and can make great progress in many matchups, depending on how good your predictions are. Spikes are its biggest enemy though, so preventing them from going or aggressive doubles with Lati to Defog are needed.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Classic set, great at keeping rocks up and punching holes in opposing defensive cores with SD. Also a decent Heatran switch-in since the rest of the team hates it. Deadly even without an SD boost as Life Orb Earthquake can put Clefable and Tapu Fini in Latios Psychic Range. Initially had Scale Shot on this and rocks on Skarmory, but Latios' ability to clean late game impressed me so I changed the set to this. Definitely more useful early to mid game, and a very consistent mon in general.

Quite pleased with the team overall and it's able to do what I want it to consistently, but would love to hear if people have suggestions/improvements I can make to this team.

I highly recommend having some sort of hazard removal, maybe defog on Skarmory or adding in a defogger. Obstagoon's bane, and the thing that makes it the least reliable, is chip damage (similar to Shedninja, I guess). If even just rocks are up, Obstagoon is going to be taking 20-30% every time it comes in, making coming in repeatedly and being able to break Rocky Helmet mons a lot more difficult. Remember that on top of this breaking role, Obstagoon's health must be preserved in order to be able to repeatedly switch into Spectrier later in the game. Assault Vest Magearna is also affected by spikes, and that's your secondary Spectrier check. If you could find a way to reliably get rid of Ferrothorn early game, or have reliable defoggers, that would make Obstagoon much more potent defensively and offensively. I'd recommend you switch Toxic on Skarmory to Defog.

Even with Defog, Ferrothorn is still stressful to switch into, as Skarmory likes its Helmet and doesn't like getting Seeded, and Slowbro can't get Knocked Off or it is effected by Ferrothorn's spikes. Garchomp can usually muscle its way past Ferrothorn, especially if they're Spdef, but it doesn't want to switch in. I'd recommend you just play smart around Ferrothorn and try to double Garchomp in when Ferrothorn is coming in, as well as make sure spikes are off the field before Obstagoon or Magearna are forced to come in.

Other than that nice team and have a great day :)
