Worth a last try!
Rather than rehash the talking points for the millionth time--I don't think anyone's budging on that (unless?)--I think we should instead figure out:
1) should playerbases of their tiers be allowed to vote on the format?
This was the debate last year before it turned into the RBY bo1 debacle. The root of the issue seemed to be that those in charge did not care for the playerbase they were there to serve and were more interested in handing down their preference from on high, a preference whose primary concern consisted of rule symmetry. I suppose here we'll find out if that's still the case!
Personally, I think if the playerbase wants to play a certain way--i.e. the bo3 standard of individual tournaments that we are generally used to and have a strong preference for--they should be allowed to. I feel this way about DPP, and know many other DPPers do. (I feel similarly for GSC, ADV, BW...) I don't see a reason to force this on SV or whatever other tier I'm not involved in. That should be their decision.
Interestingly, I've heard tell some RBYers want to propose bo5...that would rock...
2) if yes, how do we figure out who to ask?
I don't have anything in particular in mind, but I think it's crucial we don't pretend like we can't do this because it's something we couldn't possibly figure out a reasonable version of (reasonable in the same way voting criteria on old gen suspects is, since all but one meta played in SPL is an old gen I think you'd have a lot of overlap). This idea often gets met with "but who do you have vote?" as if that ends the debate as opposed to leading to something to be figured out.
