Welcome to the SWSH edition of the LC Good Cores thread! The purpose of this thread is for the community to post and discuss various cores that work well in the metagame.

As you all know, a core is a group of usually 2 or 3 Pokemon in the team that work together toward a specific goal. These goals include breaking through opposing teams, covering each other's weaknesses while providing the team with a solid set of resistances, and checking important threats in the LC metagame while exerting offensive pressure upon the opposing teams.

All cores are welcome in this thread, as long as they meet the following guidelines:

1. Cores posted here must be tested to ensure that they perform well in the metagame. Therefore, including replays is recommended to further support the validity of your core. Try to keep slashes to a minimum.

2. Include a short, concise description or explanation of the core, which should contain the following information:
- How the core functions
- How to use the core itself

Please follow the following format when presenting a core:

1. Provide the sprites and names of the Pokemon that make up your core.

2. Include the sets for your Pokemon (preferably in hide tags).

3. Write up a short description of how the core functions.

Here's an example of what a proper submission should look like:

:sm/vullaby: :sm/mienfoo:

Vullaby (F) @ Berry Juice
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Defog

Mienfoo @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 SpD / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Fake Out

This is a standard offensive core. These two have great synergy due to the ability to endlessly pivot between each other thanks to U-turn. Mienfoo is able to be brought in comfortably on common switchins to Vullaby such as Onix and Pawniard and even if it takes a fair bit of damage from them, it can comfortably regain that HP with Regenerator. Vullaby also threatens Foongus who quite commonly pivots into Mienfoo. Both of these Pokemon have a variety of different sets and different variations can be ran quite easily (i.e either Pokemon can run a Choice Scarf, or Vullaby can run NP Sets if it wishes).

:sm/ferroseed: :sm/spritzee:
Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
Level: 5
EVs: 84 HP / 188 Def / 84 SpA / 148 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock / Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Thunder Wave

Spritzee @ Eviolite
Ability: Aroma Veil
Level: 5
EVs: 212 HP / 36 Def / 12 SpA / 236 SpD / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Psychic

This is a classic defensive core as they both cover each other's weaknesses. Ferroseed is immune to Poison-type attacks and resists Steel-type attacks and is able to pivot in quite comfortably on Foongus and opposing Ferroseeds while Spritzee is able to pivot in quite comfortably on the common Fighting-type and Fire-type coverage from Mienfoo, Vullaby, and Timburr. Furthermore Spritzee is able to provide Ferroseed with some extra longevity by being able to boost its HP thanks to Wish.

Super nice that we got this thread, I'm here to claim the 1st core!!!

pawniard.gif
munchlax.gif

Foongus @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 124 HP / 156 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis

Pawniard @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
Level: 5
EVs: 156 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Brick Break

Munchlax @ Berry Juice
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 5
EVs: 156 Atk / 36 Def / 156 SpD / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double-Edge
- Fire Punch
- Recycle
- Counter / Curse

Foongus has returned from Gen 7 when it was one of the greatest defensive assets in the metagame and it still is. Pawniard covers the weakness to Flying, Ice, and Psychic types. In return, Foongus covers the Fighting weakness and answers most Ground types. Munchlax is there to cover the big Fire weakness with Thick Fat. Munchlax itself is weak to Fighting-types and Foongus answers those most of the time. Munchlax doesn't appreciate Knock-Off but luckily Foongus and Pawniard are one of the best Knock-Off switch-ins in LC.
Because an opposing Pawniard can annoy this core I have given it Brick Break as 4th move. Munchlax is also a good check to Staryu as Foongus could get easily overwhelmed by its coverage moves, This core is weak to Fighting-types like Farfetch'd-Galar as it can threaten Foongus with Brave Bird.

:ss/Trapinch: :ss/Ponyta:
Trapinch @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 156 HP / 36 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Brave Nature
- Earthquake
- Giga Drain
- Superpower
- First Impression

Ponyta @ Eviolite
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 5
EVs: 76 Atk / 156 Def / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Horsepower
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
Here's a pretty common offensive core. Ponyta greatly appreciates Trapinch's ability to trap and revenge kill common checks to it including Onix, Diglett, Munchlax, and less consistently, Mareanie and chipped Mudbray. Ponyta can come into what Pinch can't touch, such as Ferroseed, Foongus, Protect Grookey, and less commonly Pumpkaboo. This core has a clear weakness to strong waters.

Time for some standard cores

Mienfoo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Close Combat / Drain Punch / Poison Jab

Timburr @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Fist
Level: 5
EVs: 76 HP / 196 Atk / 236 Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch
- Thunder Punch / Ice Punch

Timburr weakens stuff with Knock Off, Mienfoo cleans.

Vullaby (F) @ Berry Juice
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Defog / Heat Wave

Wingull @ Life Orb
Ability: Hydration
Level: 5
EVs: 36 Def / 236 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 HP
- Hurricane
- Scald
- U-turn
- Air Slash / Knock Off

Wingull beats Onix and Vullaby weakens stuff with Knock Off.

Trapinch @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 116 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpA / 76 SpD
Brave Nature
- Earthquake
- Giga Drain
- Superpower
- First Impression / Feint

Vullaby (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 236 SpA / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Dark Pulse
- Heat Wave
- Nasty Plot

Trapinch traps Onix and Pawniard, Vullaby sweeps. The Trapinch set can be customised depending on what you want to trap (Onix is the important one) and this works with the Vullaby pivot set as well.

Shellder @ Eviolite
Ability: Skill Link
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Liquidation

Diglett @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Earth Power
- Final Gambit
- Beat Up/ Memento
This is a classic core, the idea is trap the steel types like pawn or mag with eq or mons like croagunk, you can also trap the water types like staryu with final gambit. As advice, I would recommend to use some knock users, since you usually want to knock off bulky mons like timburr mienfoo or sprit, which aren't trapped by dig.

Grookey @ Berry Juice
Ability: Grassy Surge
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance
- Substitute/Protect

Woobat @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Simple
Level: 5
EVs: 76 HP / 12 Def / 236 SpA / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stored Power
- Heat Wave
- Calm Mind
- Roost
The idea is really simple, set up the terrain with grookey and after click cm with woobat and win. This core usually works better on webs. You can run protect over substitute on grookey to not get trapped by pinch, but you don't really need it, since woobat set ups on trapinch. Some mons like ponyta, chinchou or croagunk really pair well with grookey.

Abra @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
Level: 5
EVs: 116 Atk / 156 SpA / 196 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Submission / Fire Punch
- Substitute

Ponyta-Galar @ Life Orb
Ability: Pastel Veil
Level: 5
EVs: 236 SpA / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Mystical Fire
- Substitute / Protect

Abra is back, and now it has an incredible partner, ponyta-galar. This core basically works with the wincon 1 and 2 idea, since the checks of both mons are the same ones. You break or at least chip the checks with one, and wins with the other one. For example you can break ferroseed with ponyta-galar and win with abra spamming psychic, or you can break pawniard with abra and win with pony-g. This core works better on HO and webs teams.

Foongus (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 124 HP / 160 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis

Onix @ Eviolite
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Explosion
This core is a more defensive one. Foongus is a nice fighting check and onix is a really good flying check. Basically, one covers what the other one is weak to. The main problem of this core is wingull, so mons like chinchou, frillish, munchlax etc can work really well with them. This core works better on balanced/bulky offense teams.

Koffing @ Eviolite
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 196 HP / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunderbolt

Pawniard @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Sucker Punch

Spritzee @ Eviolite
Ability: Aroma Veil
Level: 5
EVs: 52 HP / 196 Def / 12 SpA / 236 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Psychic
- Moonblast
Koffing with Eviolite reaches a very good 30 Def and Spritzee provides recovery with Wish; considering that mons that usually switch in vs Spritzee are Poison types or steel types, you'll probably be able to wish pass to either Koffing or Pawniard, increasing their longevity during the game and allowing them to tank more hits from a very big chunk of the meta. Watch out for NP Vullaby and Mold Breaker Drilbur (Scarf Chinchou can help you with those, but I'm sure other options exist), and of course be careful with Pawn if the opponent has Diglett.

some basic porygon cores

:ss/porygon: :ss/trapinch:
Porygon @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
Level: 5
EVs: 156 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpA / 36 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tri Attack
- Psychic
- Recover
- Teleport

Trapinch @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 156 HP / 36 Atk / 236 Def / 76 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- First Impression
- Giga Drain / Protect

download pory is super tough to switch into, and most of the stuff that can (namely pawn, mag, and onix) is very easily trapped by pinch. pory benefits immensely from the new teleport mechanics here, pivoting into pinch on its common switchins and trapping them. ferroseed is an issue here, so something that can reliably deal with it is helpful here.

:ss/porygon: :ss/spritzee:
Porygon @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
Level: 5
EVs: 156 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpA / 36 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tri Attack
- Psychic
- Recover
- Teleport / Ice Beam

Spritzee @ Eviolite
Ability: Aroma Veil
Level: 5
EVs: 212 HP / 196 Def / 12 SpA / 76 SpD / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind / Nasty Plot
poryspritz is back from 2015 and is still one of the best backbones for bulky offense out there. these 2 mons complement each other extremely well and are both capable of taking hits and dealing them out. this core works extremely well with a steel-type and with a ponyta counter. you can also run bulky trace pory here if you want to trade super strong tri attacks for being the fattest pokemon in the tier.

:ss/zigzagoon: :ss/buneary: :ss/scraggy:
Zigzagoon @ Berry Juice
Ability: Pickup
Level: 5
EVs: 132 HP / 196 Atk / 108 Def / 28 SpD / 36 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Thief
- Seed Bomb

Buneary @ Focus Sash
Ability: Limber
Level: 5
EVs: 228 Atk / 44 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Healing Wish
- Fake Out
- Circle Throw
- Assurance

Scraggy @ Berry Juice
Ability: Moxie
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 212 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
This is a balanced core built around Zigzagoon. Zigzagoon sweeps of course, but if it gets too low, Buneary heals it with Healing Wish. If it encounters any ghost types, Scraggy deals with them and attempts a sweep on its own.

Carvanha @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 236 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flip Turn
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Protect

Wynaut @ Berry Juice
Ability: Shadow Tag
Level: 5
EVs: 156 HP / 52 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore
- Safeguard

Diglett @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 236 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Earthquake
- Earth Power
- Beat Up
- Final Gambit
This is a powerfull core. Flip turn gives a lot of momentum and it is a really good move on carv, with this core you dont need psychic coverage cuz you can easily trap carvanha's counters like timburr, oddish, foongus (safeguard on wynaut is for sleep powder/spore), shellos, skrelp, mienfoo all trapped by wynaut and also dig is really good in this core for trapping ferro (using final gambit), mareanie, pawniard, chinchou, croagunk, abra (beat up), mienfoo (final gambit), skrelp, staryu (final gambit). So the plan is using flip turn and trapping all counters and after sweeping with carvanha, easy.
