Welcome to the SS NDRU Metagame Discussion thread! With SS NDPL reaching its twilight, the RU council has decided to open up the metagame discussion thread to facilitate improvement in metagame resources and discuss metagame trends. We encourage people to post their thoughts on the metagame, theorymon, make nominations to the viability rankings and donate sample teams.

Gen 8 Nat Dex RU will operate in a semi-frozen state. While it would be nice to have Regieleki and Breloom, there will be no drops from UU. Furthermore, it is unlikely that we will test any RUBL Pokemon (including Tangrowth and Heracross) unless there is a overwhelming support from the player base. The council will, however, be taking action on Pokemon that the community finds unhealthy or uncompetitive and updating resources based on tournament trends.

How do I build for this?
This metagame currently has a builder on Pokemon Showdown. But using the SS OU / UU builders should be fine provided you keep banned Pokemon, items, and abilities in mind.

Where can I play this metagame?
While we do not have a ladder, SS NDRU is part of SS NDPL. Additionally, forum tournaments are planned for a later date. For more casual battles, you can ask people in the ND Other Tiers Room or on the ND RU Discord.

Why are you posting this thread now?
The transition from Gen 8 to Gen 9 saw an uptick in activity for NDRU both in terms of player count but also in terms of online buzz. While the council did plan on re-visiting Gen 8, the rocky nature of Gen 9 tiering meant that we had to prioritize current generation tiering and invest more time in resources, which has a nasty habit of being outdated every 3rd month. However, with the announcement of SS NDPL and the relative stability in Gen 9 NDRU, the council had both investment and the time to update resources. This thread was released during the SS NDPL semi-finals as a way for eliminated teams to team dump or comment on the metagame.

A long overdue wait, but I hope it is a worthwhile one.

With SS NDPL reaching semi-finals, I've opened this thread up for PRs, team dumps and metagame observations from both players and spectators of this tier. I'll only be pinging players who've played at least 1 game of the tier since I'm not so sure how involved each manager was with teambuilding / prep for the tier. I don't expect semi-finalists and finalists to respond immediately of course.
