SS OU first team I'm 'comfortable' with(?) I CRAVE suggestions for improvement, thanks :)

Hello Smogon community, I'd very much appreciate some advice on my team. I'd love to tell you it got me to 1500 and I need minor improvements truth is I'm at 1200 and this for me is a cause for celebration and now I'm too scared to play because inevitably i'll be right back at the bottom in no time :( (im very mediocre at everything)

Anyways, this team im somewhat comfortable with BUT I am struggling now...please help me with Pokemon changes if necessary, thank you in advance :)

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Earth Power
- Magma Storm
- Flash Cannon

I chose out of necessity and have spent the most time getting fed up at his earthquake weakness. But flash fire is necessary and over time I have come to appreciate the role he plays in my team whichever Pokemon are in it. I tried Moltres once but time itself moves glacially with him about so I quickly swapped back.
In terms of his movepool, three are self-explanatory but substitute is there because I began using it on Landorus and it's a lifesaver sometimes and thus far been 70% effective for my Heatran.

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Substitute

He's a necessity on any team these days, I did try without him once but the ground flying type combo is perfect though his abundance in the meta does mean I refrain from using him (we all know he's a weak to an ice beam). Still, he's to stay I think, with substitute it does elongate his time on the field.

Bisharp @ Focus Sash
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Bisharp: I literally put on my team today cause up till today I've beaten him most times with a heat wave from Zapdos or Tornadus when they've been on my team, but have to come appreciate his sucker punch/knock off strength with choice band. I still don't fully now how to use him (nor any of my Pokemon really).

Tapu Lele @ Expert Belt
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic

Now, I rarely use him. I added him to my team because I got swept by one once or twice and was like 'I gotta get me one of those' but yeah I guess metaphorically it's a Ferrari and I passed my test this morning - he has potential to do big things but in my hands I really doubt it. Movepool is standard, he has substitute cause I have an addictive personality.

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 Atk / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Iron Tail
- Hurricane

A great special attacker but without resistances to electric I'm kinda unsure about him. That's all I have to say - also I don't understand how people run nasty plot when in two turns he's gone to an ice or electric attack.

Mew @ Choice Specs
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Energy Ball
- Flamethrower

Oh, this guy. I get swept by one then immediately add one to my team only to get knocked out by a knock off very soon into the next game...I want him to perform for me like he does for all those people who sweep me with one but he and I just aren't on the same wavelength. Any suggestions as to whom I could replace Mew with?

Hi Alexandrovich95, welcome to Smogon! I am locking your RMT for the time being as the forum rules require that you provide at least three lines of descriptions for each Pokemon to explain their roles. Please read the rules carefully and look at Team Showcase to see the detail we require. PM me with updated descriptions, and I will be happy to unlock this. Also, feel free to PM me if you need help or have any question. Have a nice day!

To PM someone on Smogon, go over their name on any of their post. It will display a little pop-up with a summary of their profile. Then, hit the "Start conversation" button and you will be able to write a PM just like you write a regular thread.

Why did you choose this Pokemon?
What do the EV spreads do and why do you have it?
What are all 4 moves for?

Thanks for the descriptions, it's unlocked now!

5 of your mons, although their sets are awful, are viable on this type of team compositon ( Balance by the way)
:Mew: doesn't fit here
Your weak to opposing heatrans, rillaboom, and much more.
You have no way to set hazards which is bad since you will always be under pressure.
You have no way to get rid of them so the opponent can just stack 'em all on you.
AND Finally, Substitute really only fits on very offensive teams unlike this

Now lets start from the top:

:SS/Heatran:
(Bulky Tran)
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 132 SpD / 120 Spe
Modest / Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Earth Power
- Magma Storm
- Toxic

Explanation: Unlike before, this heatran is bulkier and can fit an offensive/defensive role better. It can hit non-scarf full speed modest magnezones first which would have otherwise dealt with you. You can survive earth power from opposing heatrans and potentially kill it with yours.

Calc: 0 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 308-364 (95.3 - 112.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO (Calm Nature)
0+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 340-400 (105.2 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Modest Nature)

You can also survive 2 rounds with a dragapult and cripple it. Toxic allows you to cripple switch such as ground types and switch ins to magma storm. Taunt prevents trapped mons from healing themselves or opposing slower hazard setters such a clefable from setting up stealth rock.

OR

:SS/Heatran:
(Offensive Tran)
Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flame Body / Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eruption
- Earth Power
- Magma Storm
- Toxic / Flash Cannon / Taunt / Protect

Explanation: For more attack oriented teams, this heatran can be of use. With Air Balloon, your immune all ground moves until it gets damaged. Flame Body takes advantage of u-turn pivoters such landorus and rillaboom that try to pop your balloon. Full Speed with Timid allows you to speed tie if not outspeed opposing heatrans and spdef landorus.

Calc: 252 SpA Heatran Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Landorus-Therian: 204-241 (53.4 - 63%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Eruption is use for heavy damage during early game and Magma Storm is used when your hp gets low. The last slot is up to you though.

Use: Switch into mons like Corviknight and Ferrothorn and trap them. Avoid fighting healthy melmetals as they will survive and KO you with earthquake or hurt you with superpower. Heatran can confidently switch into clefable, it and taunt it. Not a lot mons can withstand heatrans residual damage.

:SS/Landorus-Therian:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- U-turn

Explanation: SD (Swords Dance) :Landorus-Therian: only fits on HOs. For your type of team, the above set should be better. Full spdef and hp allow you to switch into eruption-less :Heatran:, survive a blow from :Blacephalon:, :Dragapult: and :Tapu lele:. Stealth Rock drops a hazard on the opposing team for chip damage. The lowest speed allows you to u-turn last against other :Landorus-Therian: which is very good.

Use: Can switch into any electric type except rotom-wash. Is your major lead. Deals with heatran with help from toxapex.

:SS/Weavile: should replace :Bisharp:
Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Triple Axel

Explanation: Firstly, that :Bisharp:'s item was horrible and :Bisharp: doesn't fit here. :Bisharp: usually fits on teams that set a lot of hazards. :Weavile: replaces bisharp here since its a dark type and immune to future sight and is faster, much faster. It threatens a lot of mons that would have other given you trouble such as :Tornadus-Therian:, :Dragapult: and :Blacephalon:. :Weavile: is capable of setting up and sweeping once the opposing team is weakened enough. Plus its immune to hail.

Use: Useful during middle to late game when opposing mons are whittled down and threats like buzzwole, corviknight and tapu fini are fainted or close to fainting.

:SS/Tapu Lele:
Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Blast
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Psychic / Future Sight

Explanation: Expert Belt is bad. Over half of the mons that come up against you won't be weak against your moves. Choice Specs is much much much better since it allows you to hit like a truck. A Modest Nature makes you hit about 4% - 13% harder than a Timid Nature. Focus Blast helps you to hit :Ferrothorn:, :Melmetal: and :Heatran: that may try to switch in. Psyshock helps to hit mons with high spdef and low def like :Blissey:. Psychic helps you hit harder most of the time. Future Sight can be used instead to deal HEAVY damage after 2 turns.

Use: Use U-turns from landorus and corviknight to bring it in. Never switch into this directly except when your 99.9% sure

:SS/Corviknight: should replace :Tornadus-Therian:
Corviknight @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Defog
- Body Press
- U-turn
- Roost

Explanation: :Corviknight: fulfills the defensive role here better. It provides hazard removal, reliable pressurer, tanky support and checks mons like :Weavile:, :Landorus-Therian:, :Kartana:, :Melmetal:, :Tapu Lele: and alot of other stuff. Leftovers for more survivability or Rocky Helmet to punish attackers.

Use: Can switch in to basically any non electric attacker. Use your pivoting power to the fullest while luring mons like ferrothorn, opposing corviknights and electric types to be handled by heatran and landorus. Don't switch in to Urshiftu-R directly cause its banded 99.9% of the time and 2HKO's you.

The Final Slot should belong to no other mon but......
:SS/Toxapex:
Honestly, that mew set is awful. Other than being a hazard setter or Cosmic Power Destroyer on HOs, Mew has no use in OU. And only give Choice Band or Choice Specs to mons with at least 125 in their Attack or Spatk.
Too Toxic To Kill (Toxapex) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Recover
- Haze
- Toxic

Explanation: I'mma telling you, :Toxapex: is one of the sturdiest mons in OU at the moment. Full HP and Spdef allows you to switch casually into Specs :Blacephalon: and Specs :Dragapult: and knock their items off. This Tank of a Pokemon checks :Tapu Fini:, :Urshifu-Rapid-Strike:, and basically every set up sweep that :Corviknight: doesn't check. Shed Shell allows it to switch into :Heatran:, knock it off, and switch out to :Landorus-Therian:.

Bro you literally just told him his team is bad and gave him a whole entire new team.

This is rate my team, he’s asking for help. Why you gotta be so critical?

Also the new team you gave him has a tough time against dragapult, blazikin, and the meteor beam beast boosters lol

It also gets annihilated by rain. Maybe check and make sure you own team is good before you go out trying to call someone else’s team “bad” and “awful” especially when they are looking for help.

Tl;dr ice man criticized this team but the team he offered wasn’t much better.

Ok, sorry for being critical.
But the sets on those mons are bad if you want to ladder

This is my last reply, but if you’re going to talk to him about laddering, the sets you offered make his team lose to rain straight up which is a very popular archetype right now.
