Project SS RU Next Best Thing - On break

Wow, there were a LOT of votes this week! Thank you everybody for participating!
This week came down to a tie between Offensive Flame Charge by nameless90 and Overheat + Eject Pack by Nohtori. Since there's a tie this week, I'm gonna use my host powers to cast a tiebreaker vote for the Flame Charge set! Congratulations, your set will be added to the Hall of Fame!
Now, on to the next Pokemon!
:bw/celebi:
With Zarude gone, Celebi is one of the many Grass-types to receive a spark in usage over the past couple of weeks in the new metagame. While Zarude was known almost exclusively for being a fantastic offensive pivot and status absorber, Celebi has been trying to do a few more things than that! Let's see how much it can pull off!
There are no banned sets! Everything that doesn't break thread rules is allowed, go crazy!
Submissions will be open until Sunday, July 18th. Have fun posting everybody!

U-turn+Flame Orb Celebi

Celebi @ Flame Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Trick
- Psychic
- Giga Drain
- U-turn

General idea

Celebi is gifted with the combination of Trick (for Flame Orb) + U-turn + Flame Orb.
Burn is one of the most useful statuses because it cuts in half the Atk of the target (unless Guts).
Both Trick for Flame Orb and U-turn punishes a Dark-type switch-in, especially if physical.

Psychic + Giga Drain is the dual STAB combination chosen because it allows to circumvent Taunt, whereas U-turn is to get rid of our self-inflicted status and to give a fastish momentum support to our teammates.
This EVs spread gives Celebi some offensive presence and speed.

Team(mates) support
This Celebi is an annoyer with Trick to ruin an opposing physical attackers, but also to grab the opposing item. The best part is that you can use whatever thing the opponent runs, even Black Sludge since you can throw it back.

Celebi can use Future sight and U-turn to try and position its teammates into ideal wallbreaking situations. Mienshao of course appreciates Future sight a lot same with Heracross.

Choice Scarf Celebi
:ss/celebi:
Celebi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Psychic
- Trick
- U-turn / Healing Wish

While it lacks the power of other options for speed control like Choice Scarf Xurkitree, Heracross, or Mienshao, this Celebi set is primarily useful for its defensive utility: its typing and decent bulk even uninvested allow it to switch into Pokemon like Xurkitree and Raikou easily and outspeed and threaten them. Leaf Storm and Psychic are obvious picks as the strongest STAB moves available, and Trick cripples switch-ins to this coverage (mainly Steel-types and Incineroar.) U-turn is usually the best option for the last slot to pivot out of bulkier stuff you can't damage much, but Healing Wish also provides great utility to the offensive teams this set is best for, as it can heal up a worn-down teammate whenever necessary.

Celebi @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature/ Modest
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Earth Power
- Giga Drain / Energy Ball/ Recover
- Psychic

Classic NP celebi effectively has 0 switchins lol. Giga drain is preferred for extra longevity as it can be used over and over again in a match. Modest hits some funny calcs as well.

Jake from State Farm (Celebi) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 60 SpD / 196 Spe
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Perish Song
- Recover
- U-turn

Oops! You've had an accident! You've let necrozma, suicune, reuniclus, or even worse - togekiss get setup on you because you were careless!
Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there! Jake from State Farm can come in and use perish song to limit the sweeping potential. Can also be used as an insurance policy against last mons so they die in 3 turns.

Enough speed to outrun max speed Togekiss. And the rest of the evs in special bulk because Celebi naturally checks more special mons with it's typing. Calc +2 8 SpA Togekiss Air Slash vs. 252 HP / 60+ SpD Celebi: 324-384 (80.1 - 95%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Choice Specs Celebi

Celebi @ Choice Specs
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 16 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aura Sphere
- Trick
- Leaf Storm
- Psychic

Celebi's Stabs are pretty hard to switch in to, and those who resist both get chipped pretty hard by Aura Sphere. (Lets don't count about Doublade, that thing's SpDef is awful) The Speed EV's are for outspeeding positive natured 95's. The SpAtk EV's is for Celebi to hit as hard as possible. The HP and SpDef EV's are leftovers. If you face a wall that walls this set, just trick the specs away.

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 24 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

A more bulky set that can check a good amount of pokemon. It could then sub and either attack against more frail pokemon or leech seed against fatter ones. This can chip down certain threats opening the game up for cleaners.

This week's winner is Future Sight Pivot by Yourwelcomethanku! Congratulations, your set will be added to the Hall of Fame!
:bw/metagross:
This week's mon is Metagross! One of my personal favorite mons in the tier, Metagross is already known for being able to pull off a wide variety of sets due to its excellent base stats and great movepool combined with its Steel/Psychic typing. Let's see how much this robo-spider can really do!

Impish Nature

metagross is able to cosmic power up and then proceed to sweep teams that rely on gastrodon to check steels and set-up sweepers as metagross is immune to clear smog. in addition metagross is able to fish for meteor mash's secondary effect to power itself up even further. speed evs outspeed ada golurk and milo that hit 210.

'one of the best metagross sets in my opinion, grass know let's u break past meta's most common answers gastro and seis' - punny. This set serves as a lure for gastro and seis whilst not giving up on offensive pressure and can still switch moves

Sub Toxic

Metagross's best defensive checks being Water-types and Talonflame can be harrased a lot more with the combination of Toxic and Substitute the advantage this has over Toxic Protect is being even more annoying with the ability to spam Sub. Talonflame can't Will-O-Wisp you with Sub up so you can you could just straight up beat Talonflame. This set is EVd for Metagross's sub to take a Milotic Scald.

In terms of teammates Metagross isn't the SR setter here so a teammate like Diancie or Steelix could fill that role. Pokemon able to take advantage of the Bulky-Water types being pressure by Metagross such as Swords Dance Cobalion and Raikou for Gastrodon should make good teammates.

0 SpA Milotic Scald vs. 252 HP / 220 SpD Metagross: 76-90 (20.8 - 24.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Possible damage amounts: (76, 76, 78, 78, 79, 81, 81, 82, 82, 84, 85, 85, 87, 87, 88, 90)[
Metagross's sub HP is 91/SPOILER]

Code Name: Cleaner (Metagross) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Endure

Endure + Salac Berry Metagross can be a surprise revenge killer to stop momentum/sweeps if you need, or, more likely, a late-game cleaner for offensive teams.

"/ds resists ground, resists steel, ru|nu, all:
Araquanid, Golisopod, Mantine, Talonflame"
Code Name: the Cleaner was an early 2000's B movie starring accidental spy Cedric the Entertainer.

AV Metagross

Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
- Zen Headbutt

Metagross has a good defensive typing with the adding advantage of being one of the few physical attackers with Clear Body to block opposing Intimidates and other drops. This is important because Metagross can effectively run an Adamant nature to enhance its offensive presence.

Assault Vest is one good item to slap into this thing because it fixes its SpD to the point it can check more special attackers (with Choice Specs) attacking with neutral hits. Some calcs:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 236-278 (78.4 - 92.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Punk Rock Toxtricity Overdrive vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 169-200 (56.1 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Gardevoir Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 186-220 (61.7 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 142-169 (47.1 - 56.1%) -- 80.9% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 163-193 (54.1 - 64.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

A way to deal properly with bulky Grounds and Water is mandatory (i.e. Quagsire and Gastrodon), but this is why teammates are for.

Meteor Beam Metagross
:ss/metagross:
Metagross @ Power Herb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Modest Nature
- Meteor Beam
- Flash Cannon
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
(totally didn't submit this because I typed the wrong move into the teambuilder one time...)

Thanks to its newfound addition of Meteor Beam, Metagross can utilise its otherwise laughable base 95 Special Attack to do some surprisingly good damage:
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 236+ SpD Incineroar: 272-320 (69 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Starmie: 264-312 (101.1 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 229-270 (53.7 - 63.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 940-1108 (261.1 - 307.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Steelix: 163-192 (46 - 54.2%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Milotic: 238-280 (60.5 - 71.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ SpA Metagross Meteor Beam vs. 172 HP / 0 SpD Golisopod: 378-446 (113.1 - 133.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The listed moves are pretty much necessary because Metagross has an unfortunately limited special movepool.

ID BP Metagross

:ss/metagross:

Metagross @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Earthquake / Sleep Talk / Rock Slide
- Rest

This is a set that sets up on slow bulky walls, thinking they can chip you before their offensive teammates can clean up. Earthquake is for smashing pesky ghosts that are immune to body press. It can be switched to sleep talk if you have a way to remove ghost types. I also put Rock Slide if you want to kill flying types. Honestly, I think the third slot can be whatever, just depends if you want to set up more with the consistent but weak Power-Up Punch, lure things with Earthquake or Rock Slide. Rest is for consistent recovery and also because you can remove status. Having Chesto also makes this a switch in to Roserade, which you pray that it won't hit two sleep powders in a row.
