Staal

I've never been good at offense, so when I decided to make a new team I made a stall team. I knew that the moves Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, Toxic, Wish, Whirlwind or Roar and Aromatherapy or Heal Bell all had to be on my team. With this in mind the number of Pokemon I could chose from decreased, but I still managed to scrap together a decent team.

Changes in Red

THE TEAM

485.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Roar

Heatran replaced Bronzong and took his role as my Stealth Rock user and became my phazer. Lava Plume has a great 30% burn rate and Protect is always useful.

Tangrowth @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed

Tangrowth does not die. Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Regenerator and Leftovers keep him alive. His great Defense lets him tank almost any physical hit and he can pass any special attacks to Blissey. Tangrowth's great defenses allow him to come in on a boosted dragon's Outrage and nail them with a Hidden Power [Ice], and Regenerator assures that he survives.

242.gif

Blissey @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Softboiled
- Aromatherapy
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic

It's Blissey! Aromatherapy is VERY helpful to this stall team letting me take toxic, will-o-wisp or thunderwave with near impunity. Toxic is needed to get any flyers not affected by Tentacruel's Toxic Spikes. Seismic Toss gradually wears opponents down and Softboiled keeps her alive.

Latias @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Wish
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Protect

Latias is a bulky and fast wish passer, very useful for my team. Dragon Pulse catches an unboosted Dragonite off guard while Protect lets Latias effectively heal herself. I might replace her due to her many weaknesses but I haven't come up with anyone who can fill these rolls better than her. Hidden Power Fire is useful for hitting steel type Pokemon that resist Dragon Pulse, especially Scizor.

205.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef
Bold Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch

Forretress took Skarmory's old role as my spiker, but can also use toxic spikes and rapid spin. I tried Earthquake in place of Volt Switch but I found that it did too little damage to be useful. Though not my favorite Pokemon and often in need of Wish support, he gets the job done.

593.gif

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover

Jellicent replaced Tentacruel as a bulky water but does not fill the same roles. While Tentacruel was my spinner and had toxic spikes Jellicent is a bulky spin blocker, which I didn't have before. Along with Tangrowth and Heatran, Jellicent completes my Fire/Water/Grass defensive core.

If you have any changes or comments that would be great. Thanks beforehand.

If you're looking for a way to replace Tentacruel then I think you should try out Jellicent in its place along with Forretress over Skarmory. Jellicent is a great Pokemon to use on this team because it walls Rain teams to hell and back while spinblocking and helping to beat opposing stall with the combination of Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, and Recover. Meanwhile, the use of Forretress ensures that your team maintains all of the support it had before. Don't worry too much about the loss of some physical bulk since you've already got Tangrowth to deal with the heavy hitters and Jellicent can burn them.

Now, the big issue that I've got with this team is Bronzong. Gliscor isn't problematic for this team and if you begin to feel that it is then you can just use HP [Ice] on Tangrowth in place of Knock Off. Of course, this will also hurt Dragon-types as well so there's more of a merit to it than just that one little thing. Meanwhile, Landorus is handled pretty well by the rest of your team. Instead, I think that you should be using specially defensive Heatran. It walls Sun teams just as well as Jellicent walls Rain and has excellent synergy with the rest of your team. Finally, another thing that you could try is using HP [Fire] over Roar on Latias to help beat Rotom-W/Scizor cores. Overall, solid team and good luck.

Hi, solid team. I agree with oblivion's change to heatran over bronzong. Between skarmory and tangrowth, you're able to cover most physical threats and blissey can take specs draco meteors all day long.

Have you considered using celebi over latias? Right now rotom+scizor can be a minor nuisance and celebi can easily deal with it while providing cleric support
Celebi @ Leftovers/life orb Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 232 HP / 240 SAtk / 36 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Heal Bell
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover

Having 5/6 member of the team be weak to Infernape, one of the most common wallbreakers seems like a really big liability. Infernape gets walled by Jellicent pretty hard but if that Infernape carries Grass knot or if Jellicent gets killed your team isn't sitting pretty :o

Because of that I would recommend keeping Latias.

Ah, I hadn't taken infernape into consideration. I personally haven't seen a great many grass knot variants, so I would still take celebi into consideration, but I definitely see your point.

Hi, I would like to point out that Eric Staal is a piece of shit. All members of the 2005-2006 Carolina Hurricanes roster bar Doug Weight and Ray Whitney can go die in a hole. Oilers 4 Life!

Anyways, your team currently has major issues dealing with Volcarona. Especially ChestoRest variants. Volcarona can easily set up on anyone, doesn't fear status, and can plow your entire team at +6/+6/+6. Having both Bronzong and Skarmory on the same team is pretty redundant, since one is more than enough to check Landorus as well as physical Dragons such as Haxorus. Skarmory is your Spiker, so it is the more valuable member of the team. I suggest swapping Bronzong for a Specially Defensive Heatran. Heatran can back up Latias in checking sun teams, and can still provide Stealth Rock. But the most important thing about this change is that Heatran can wall Volcarona bar Life Orb HP Ground variants, which are taken care of by Blissey. Heatran can easily come in against any other Volcarona set, set up Stealth Rock, and Roar out Volcarona. Rinse and repeat and Volcarona will eventually cave to Stealth Rock damage. Roar is just in general a very useful move. Having multiple phazers can never hurt a stall team.

Your Tangrowth set clashes with your general team strategy. Sleep Powder is a move that is better used on more balanced teams. On a stall team, the idea is to poison/ burn everything. Especially because your team has Toxic Spikes support, you will often try Sleep Powdering a switch-in, only to have the switch-in get poisoned first, effectively wasting a turn for you. I suggest swapping Sleep Powder for Hidden Power Ice. By dropping Bronzong, your team loses its answer to Gliscor, but Tangrowth can now fill that role nicely. Hidden Power Ice is also useful against troublesome opponents like DD Dragonite. Tangrowth has the bulk to take a +1 Outrage and strike back with Hidden Power Ice. One more thing regarding Tangrowth, you're not running a Mixed set, so why bother lowering the Speed? Use a Bold Nature instead. Tangrowth will never take a Special move anyways, so you might as well toss the stat into Special Attack as well.

Finally, I suggest swapping Tentacruel's ability to Rain Dish. Liquid Ooze, while fun in practice, just isn't as useful as before. Tentacruel isn't a very reliable check to Pokemon like Conkeldurr and Ferrothorn, which are both more likely to hit you with Payback / Power Whip than Drain Punch / Leech Seed. Although Latias does a good job against most Rain threats, the omnipresence of Drizzle means the more Pokemon that can deal with Rain, the better.

In Summary:
Eric Staal is a piece of shit
pros: doesn't matter, this is a fact
cons: also doesn't matter, this is a fact

Specially Defensive Heatran>Bronzong
pros: checks Volcarona, provide another phazer, check sun teams alongside Latias
cons: none really, because everything Bronzong does can now be done by Tangrowth as long as...

HP Ice>Sleep Powder and new spread on Tangrowth
pros: helps Tangrowth check dragons and Gliscor and Landorus
cons: Sleep Powder is useful early game

Rain Dish>Liquid Ooze on Tentacruel
pros: Rain is everywhere, the more rain checks, the better
cons: Leech Seed can be a bitch

Carolina Hurricanes suck, GL

Thanks for all the comments. I decided to go with most of Oblivion IX's changes, as I added Forretress, Heatran and Jellicent. I also added Hidden Power [Ice] on Tangrowth and Hidden Power [Fire] on Latias to deal with more specific threats. Thanks so much for the comments, it really helped my team.

Sand support may or may not be useful for the team. None of your pokemon mind it, but you may have to replace Heatran. Though it will probably change your game plan quite drastically, I recommend testing Hippowdon over Heatran on that lead slot. Hippowdon gets sand up, which is very useful on a team that packs Leftovers and Instant recovery on every member that is affected by Sandstorm, and also has less common weaknesses than Heatran, most notably Ground, and instant recovery in Slack Off. I think Hippowdon is quite capable of handling Heatran can that the rest of your team can't, and could also help you against Infernape without Grass Knot. I don't know if you were avoiding Sand on purpose, or if it just didn't suit your team, but I think it would be worth a try. The set is:
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Careful: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 SpD
-Stealth Rock
-Roar
-Slack Off
-Earthquake

That's all I could find to offer this team. Hope my one suggestion helped somewhat!
