STABmons has quickly become my favorite Custom Metagame, with so many interesting options
I'm always surprised by the creative things that I face on the ladder. I messed around for a little while in STABmons before making this team but during that time I learned a lot and discovered a lot of new things that led me to make this team. Overall the record for this team is about 3:1, and I think it has a lot of potential. While it may seem strange to not run a set up pokemon in such a set up heavy metagame I kind of prefer it. I feel like this team handles most set up sweepers but it can still struggle if I don't play my cards right. Here's the team:

Politoed

Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Since I don't really think that Politoed is a very effective wall I figured I might as well go all out and make it as powerful a sweeper as possible, so I concluded by giving it a Scarf and Water Spout. Even though Politoed has a pretty poor base SAtk of 90 a Rain + STAB boosted 150 BP attack hits pretty dang hard. In my experiences this set has a decent surprise factor, but once it gets found out its not very hard to stop. Once Politoed starts to lose health however it becomes pretty much useless, Rain boosted Surf just doesn't really hit hard enough.

Thundurus-Therian

Thundurus-Therian @ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Hurricane
- Grass Knot
- Roost

Thundurus-T is the only real "Rain" sweeper this team has, and it's by far the member I'm least sure about. While it does have great coverage and massively powerful STABs I just feel like it doesn't really perform that well in the metagame. It is very possible that I'm using it wrong, I didn't actually realize until today that it was infact base 101 Spd... Regardless though I still feel like the team would benefit from something else in Thundurus' place. It also is really dependent on the Rain, I hate having to rely on 70% accurate moves like Thunder and Hurricane.

Ferrothorn
598.gif
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Spore

Ferrothorn is an excellent wall, and pretty much a staple on every Rain team. It fills a lot of roles on this team: it sets up hazards, put things to sleep, tanks hits, and uses Iron Barbs to help beat sweepers like Bibarel or Ursaring. Its extremely useful to have a Steel type in a metagame with so many Normal and Dragon attacks flying around. Ferrothorn's bulk and typing let it handle a whole lot of things in STABmons. I've often wondered if there was anything worthwhile to replace Spikes with, as I usually don't find the time during games to set up both types of entry hazards.

Alakazam
065.gif
Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Psystrike
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Encore

Alakazam may be the most important member of this team, it alone saves me from almost every sweeper of the tier. Thanks to Magic Guard I can easily keep Alakazam as full health all the way until the end of the game. The set is pretty standard stuff, Psystrike in place of Psyshock is very nice to have however. Encore is to help beat set up pokemon using things like Calm Mind or Stockpike, as Alakazam will out speed almost all of them. I really hate having to rely on Focus Blast due to it's terrible accuracy but I feel like that's my only real option.

Escavalier
589.gif
Escavalier @ Choice Band
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Sleep Talk

At a glance this set probably seems pretty stupid, but I'm actually really happy with it. Escavalier is obviously the team's designated Sleep absorber, with all the new abusers of Spore and Dark Void it's pretty much assumed that something will have to go to sleep in almost every game. This is mainly why I only have U-Turn on Escavalier, it doesn't remotely matter whether its put to sleep or not, as the result is always the same. U-Turn hits incredibly hard even on resisted hits. Under the Rain Escavalier also has no weaknesses, and coupled with some really nice bulk it is pretty dang hard to kill this thing.

Latios
381.gif
Latios @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Spacial Rend
- Psystrike
- Surf
- Trick

Latios is, in my opinion, the fastest pokemon that can still viably use a Scarf. Thanks to it's huge special attack and Spacial Rend it can easily outspeed and revenge anything that hasn't Shell Smashed. Surf is mostly to get past Steel types, and enjoy the benefits of the Rain. Trick is really useful to stop set up pokemon and walls if I can manage to predict them using a non-attacking move when I Trick them the Scarf. I feel like Latios is a pretty solid team member but I'm very open to changes. I do feel like I need something fast and powerful like Latios on this team however.

I'd love to get any input, advice, or critisism possible on this team, I want to make it as good as possible. Thanks!

Just taking a while guess and saying STABmons allows you to use any STAB move of your choice? Because I don't remember seeing Thundrus being able to use Hurricane or Latios using Spacial Rend.

Choice scarfers are pretty shit in stabmons because of all the priority users and the fact that shell smash is a thing, yet you have 2 of them on one team. Get rid of both and get your own priority user. You also have a huge weakness to shift gear + gear grind Scizor. He can ohko your entire team after a boost save Escavalier and Ferro, but neither of them are doing anything in return. Speaking of Escavalier, he's pretty shit too. What happens when something unexpected puts one of your other pokes to sleep, like Tyranitar or Tauros? Now you have 2 useless pokes.

I agree that Thundy is a pretty shit rain abuser because priority just wrecks him and he's not all that fast. If I was you I would change toed to be physically defensive (to beat Scizor), replace Thundy with either Keldeo or Starmie, replace Latios with some priority user (Ursaring/Bibarel/Scizor/Azumarill etc) and replace Escavalier with something else altogether.

There's nothing wrong with escavalier. It's just the set he's using. Esca with a set of Gyroball/Megahorn/Pursuit or return/U-turn is good. So is a heal order set. Also, Bibarel should really only be used as a baton passer dew to it's horrible stats. I do agree with you on the thunderus thing. Another option is to use thundurus incarnate which allows you to hurt a sweeper with prankster t-wave.

^ Bibarel is a sweeper in stabmons. 1 shell smash puts it at almost 900 attack and he gets a STAB extremespeed, and because of the lack of entry hazards you can guarantee that smash with a focus sash.

Escavalier is shit in stabmons. Seriously. A slow gyro ball is his only advantage over Scizor, except Scizor gets gear grind in this meta, which with technician puts it at the same base power as a max strength gyro ball. Gear grind + shift gear means you can be a fast sweeper with that kind of power too.
